So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

btw, i just checked craiglist randomly and there's a couple of switches for sale in NYC, but no way I'm paying $100 or $200 extra just to get it from a scalper.

are you 100% sure on the color? neon or gray? (if stock wasn't an issue)

Preference is Neon, but I'm ok with buying whatever is available at this point. I'm not down to play the game when it comes to limited supply.

Staring at the email from Walmart that says "processing" and the Walmart.com account that says "ordered placed" and "Undefined for Thursday 3/16/17"... Just put me out of my misery Walmart.... lol

I thought about amazon es but the wrong power adapter threw me off. The official Nintendo one is expensive and you can't really find generic 5amp USB c chargers, and I don't want to use an adapter for a power adapter.

You don't need to get a different adapter if you don't want to. A simple round to flat plug converter will do as the adapter covers international voltage range.

Nope. DHL doesn't deliver on Saturdays.

Maybe I wasn't being clear, but I was saying that UPS (not DHL) does on Saturday. Sorry about the confusion.

My amazon.es order was finally delivered but I'm at a company event all day. Only time I've be sad that I'm getting free food and essientially a day off work.

I wish Amazon US would put up orders for upcoming shipments. Have they taken any orders since the console launched, or was it just the initial preorders?

If they did this people would be even MORE pissed because you'd have no clue on when you'd get your shipment.
Sorry I meant with the assumption that they would have a general idea of when they would receive more stock. Like the "this item will be in stock on April 1st 2017" type listing they use from time to time.
If a retailer like Amazon is completely in the dark about when they will receive stock than the situation seems pretty bad.

Resale prices for both colors are higher on Amazon.com than they were on launch day, which I think is a good sign re: organic demand for the console.

This is actually another way of tracking if a major retailer has restocked a particular day. If it dips then you can start calling around your local retailers to see if there was a restock. Better than blindly going into a retail store.

It's clear that a big restock in America is coming soon. It's precisely why Gamestop has been hawking bundles the past two days. They are trying to lock in purchases with guaranteed sales of attached items before the massive wave of just consoles hits multiple retailers.

Gamestop always tries this bullshit with every console. I'm not sure how Nintendo sees it but I don't think they are particularly happy with it since Gamestop always goes back to selling just the consoles. Or maybe it just doesn't sell as well.

I still remember some of the Wii bundles they were peddling with the stupid accessories like a golf club attachment lol. They are far and away the sleaziest video game retailer around. Fry's and Best Buy comes a close second, though.

Just went out on my lunch break and bought Zelda after hearing more and more about shortages with the game itself. It was actually only 1 of 2 copies left in the store. Now I'll have it sitting gathering dust while I wait for my Switch lol!
I'm crying inside

I get there is frustration over stock, but this comes off a little "sky is falling". Employees at stores and customer service reps are not going to have an idea on this stuff until it files down to them. Amazon probably isn't in the dark, but rather trying to not set up hopes and expectations.

Talked to a WM rep via their chat:

"At this time, it appears that Nintendo Switch Gaming Console with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con is on backorder. This means that the shipping center nearest you does not have that item. Rest assured, the system is checking other centers for the item so that we can fulfill it for you."

He advised it can take 3-10 business days for their system to find one and either ship it or cancel the order. Meanwhile my card is charged (pending authorization). So coming across one in the wild over the next 10 business days is going to make me suuuuper sad.

This sounds like the gun was jumped on the listing, or too many orders were taken.

Man... I'm almost tempted to return my copy of BotW for Switch, and just get it on WiiU instead. And just go get a Switch later in the year, or whenever an exclusive must-have game comes out. Which... I already have/have played a ton of MK8 and Splatoon. Maybe wait till this fall for Super Mario Odyssey?

I mean, if I DO get a Switch now, I'll probably grab MK8D and Splatoon 2 as they come out, but they're not system sellers to me.

I hate the idea of taking my time on a Nintendo system, but I could be playing Zelda right now on Wii U.

Yeah, the fact it was not canceled yet makes me think it was not a mistake on the listing. It sure seems like they "sold" more than they actually had. I kind of have zero hope that they will find some magical stock in a distribution center outside my area because I would assume those would have gone to other people first. Super annoyed. I don't want to cancel it, for hopes of it working, but I also seriously will disappointed if I find a Switch in the wild before getting confirmation of cancelation/shipping...

If what you guys are saying about a huge shipment coming through, then it looks like my Gamestop bundle should fully ship soon then. Probably Friday, so perhaps I will have the system in my hands sometime next week.

This was my initial thought process in cancelling my preorder. Until Odyssey comes out, there isn't much I want to play besides Zelda. But now I'm on the other side, where I'm looking at spending 300 bucks on a console and want to use it for as much as possible. Zelda and Mario this year would justify the purchase. Buying a switch just for odyssey doesn't seem like something I'd want to do.

Go for it. I have about 10 hours in on the Wii U version, and it runs fine. Some drops here and there, but so does the Switch version when docked. Any comments stating that it is unplayable is pure hyperbole.

I had a Switch pre-ordered. Wifi issues. Returned. Fortunate enough to get a second. Bent dock. Call it dumb luck, but if I had any patience, I'd would have waited for the launch issues to get ironed out. Unless you really play on the go a lot, Zelda on the Wii U is great.

I've been fighting off similar dark thoughts myself. I have a Switch copy of BotW that my dumb ass just had to open and $173 in GameStop credit that is supposed to go towards a Switch. I just need to keep remembering to be patient and that I still need to finish Horizon Zero Dawn.

Where your package at?

:o

I think I messed up on my march 9th amazon.es order.. I ordered the NEON I bet if I had ordered the gray I would have it already :( still says delivery by the 22nd.

I did the same thing on my March 9th order. I had ordered the gray on on the 8th but changed my mind when I saw the Neon pop up the next morning. My delivery for said Neon is still reading the 22nd. I believe they originally predicted restock on the 17th, which would line up with the delivery estimate.

I wish I knew! Delivery estimate is 15th (lol) through 20th. Really hoping to get it Friday or Saturday and have the weekend to play. But if it comes Monday, so be it.
So let me get this straight:

Some of you guys are ordering Switches from amazon.es for delivery to North America?

Does that work?
Yes, several people in this thread have received theirs and there are lots of positive reports from elsewhere. UK, Japan, Spain, and Germany Amazon sites all deliver to the US and all have similar or lower prices to US retail with tax. My Spanish order came out to $332 which is only like $5 more than I would have paid here after tax. Since the device is completely region-free, the only downside is needing to buy a plug adapter for the power cord, but those can be found for a few bucks online.

So they recognized the demand for the game but not the console. Makes sense...

Scalpers buy the system but not the game. And some game sales end up digital.

It's also wildly easier to order surplus games as needed than it is the system, because production is easier and less bottlenecked for games.

Is there any way to get a North American power cord on it's own?

I drove an hour to a very rural Walmart the Sunday after launch and got the last one in a 100 mile radius. Girlfriend wanted one after seeing mine, and a local Walmart started selling unclaimed preorder units yesterday and I snagged another. So check Walmarts!

Side note: calling isn't really helpful. They will say no, even though they have some in the back.

ok i think I'll venture to Nintendo World NYC now, two avenues away, I'm sure they'll laugh if I ask if they have any Switches but whatevs.

Interested to hear what they.

PRESS THEM and ask about restocks and threaten them by saying you have Yoshi locked up in your apartment bathroom and you'll remove his liver and sell it on the black market if they don't cooperate.

I mean honestly if anyone would have units I would guess it's them

Its so incredibly hit or miss because they'll sometimes advertise, but then they'll say nothing for a while but still have units. It was the same way with Amiibos. You would sometimes walk in and see rare ones just sitting there.

Show them a video of Mario hooked up to a car battery, they'll tell you anything you want to know

Of course I ask at Nintendo world NYC and they guy looks exhausted from the same question. He's like "no switches and no idea when we'll have more". Guess back to online it is!
