Any tips for catching lizards or butterflys quickly? I barely have any critters to make elixers. They always show up randomly and I never react fast enough to catch them. They disappear by the time I get close.

Moving quickly is how they run away (unless you're already on top of them or they're running into you). You have to sneak up on them... maybe wear the Sheikah outfit to reduce noise.

There's a side quest while you are going up the road to Goron City that you can get a piece of fire-resistant armor. You need to catch 10 Fire Resistant Lizards.

Also there are a billion of those lizards around near the minor Goron town on the way to the main one. Do the quest or just catch the lizards and brew up a dang stack of elixirs.

Found a Shrine where I realized the advertised gimmick could be entirely surpassed through an alternative-means...and at first I thought I was clever, but the placement of the Treasure Chest relying on the alternative method makes me realize Nintendo was still a step ahead of me.

Forgot the name, but the Shrine has you blocking fans with metal boxes to push a ball into a slot that raises a platform---you need to be on the platform when the ball goes in. However, you can simply Stasis the ball right over the slot and run to the platform to clear it easily.

Then there's a treasure chest over a gap---if you do it the correct way you use the boxes to block the fans, and can't reach them to move them in the gap with magnesis. But if you use the Stasis trick, you can place the metal boxes up there no issue.

I initially thought so too but generating a ton of money becomes easier. Tougher monsters, better drops to make elixirs (sell them off for 100-250 each) + more ores to mine (sell some off). Becomes easy to walk around with a few thousand rupees at all times.
I've said this before but go bowling and master strikes for 280 a pop.

You can also
use stasis to golf with the ball.

When I get to a dungeon: "wow this looks so cool, this is fucking awesome!"
When I get out of a dungeon: "ok but for real bring back the traditional dungeons and what the hell was that boss"

Finished the island that people bring up in particular.:P Second try, with the first being really unlucky with a blood moon, so I had the game moved on into the next day to have it pass before going to the island again.

I genuinely don't know how you were "supposed" to do that one. The workarounds were the obvious solutions so the ideal solution bypassed me.

Yeah the dungeons are making me remember how much better the ones in Twilight Princess were and making want to play Skyward Sword, which I never did. Alhtough, I'd have to get a remote+ just for it. I'm wondering if I'll finish this or if Nier Automata will steal me away when it comes out on Steam in a couple days here. BotW is definitely a beautiful overworld but they've dicked it up in various ways.

Hahahah, I just did that shrine and also said "fuck this" and did it the way you described.
You can use it to skip all of
Hyrule Castle and go right to Ganon.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

Wow the Rito divine beast was even more underwhelming than the Goron and Zora ones. Man I really miss proper dungeons :(

The setup for Medoh was great - the paraglider sequence was enough to set the scope without outstaying its welcome, and tilting the body of the machine / the part where you had to glide outside the body from one porthole to another similarly took advantage of the scenario; but anything beyond those superficial aspects wasn't the greatest.

Basically:

When I get to a dungeon: "wow this looks so cool, this is fucking awesome!"
When I get out of a dungeon: "ok but for real bring back the traditional dungeons and what the hell was that boss"

The basic method they had for incorporating discrete dungeons into the game was fine, and some of the situations presented by the Divine Beasts are very effective at setting a scene, it's a shame that even with that, they still ended up as one of the game's weak links.

Yeah that about sums it up.

The designs of the Beasts are cool. The actual game design of them is impressive. I love seeing the exterior environment while inside. But with the game being as freaking huge as it is, I can't help but feel like I wish some of the effort that went into creating the world, which IMO is needlessly large, could've went into more dungeons.

I think it would've been amazing if there were a dungeon or two "between" each Beast, with the Divine Beasts being harder and having a "superboss" at the end. Make them feel special-- instead it's all the game offers besides the shrines, and the bosses are redundant. Hell make the
Blight Ganons
into superbosses and a lot harder.

Few hours into the game, really enjoying it. I think this is what I want open world games to be when I start them before getting ridiculously overwhelmed. I'm at the point where I can decide whether to do shrines, head to my first dungeon, or collect memories (or just do my own thing I guess). I think I'm gonna try and get at least one memory, and then go for the Zora dungeon which I think I'm the closest to atm.

Should I be hoarding gems? I sold some opals for equipment but I'm afraid I shouldn't have :P

Maybe the DLC dungeon will be the divine beasts combining to form a megazord but then the flower lady takes control of it and tries to exact revenge on Link and others for fucking up her garden.

Yah, I'll also pitch in and say the VA isn't anywhere near as bad as people seem to be making it out to be. Zelda's fits her demeanor and mood even if it might be a bit too 'british-y'. It's really only Mipha that is kinda eeeeeh.

I don't mind the VA - it's standard Anime fare.

I know folks are iffy about them putting a dungeon behind DLC, but after playing through the game (still not finished, one more Divine left) and being very disappointed in that regard, I would gladly take more dungeons even if they're behind DLC. Most people think the game is amazing, there are over 100 shrines and the four main dungeons, so I don't think it would necessarily feel like Nintendo didn't deliver on that-- but for me where I found them mostly disappointing, I would absolutely be okay with them adding a few new dungeons here and there, free or otherwise.

If the extra dungeon or two in the DLC is another fucking shrine I will lose my shit.

I enjoyed the dungeons generally, and next time make them a bit longer or have some more progressive feel to them, which
Naboris
especially felt really good in that regards.

Hahaha, best post I've read all day.
Seriously, F that flower lady. I still run into her by travelling to that shrine, forgetting, and running right into the flowers.

I've enjoyed them and I think they look really neat, I like the concept. Just that they're so short, lacking in enemies, no mini-bosses, and redundant endbosses, it all just kind of adds up to being on the disappointing end, for me personally. Especially where
you don't even have to do them in order to take on Ganon, it doesn't feel like going through them accomplishes much. The only difference is that you have to fight through his Blight forms that you haven't beat
. I just feel little to no pressure in actually doing them, and the dungeons themselves are pretty short, not hard, and the bosses are super weak.

In a lot of ways they feel extremely pointless, the bosses aren't fun or interesting and you don't get anything special for doing them, only making the final bout easier. If it felt like they were actually doing something grand or important that'd be one thing, but the entire time it's been like well, I want to do these because I miss dungeons and... not much beyond that. The story isn't strong enough to make me want to do them for that reason either.

It sounds like I'm super down about the game. I think it's incredible but I am very disappointed with all of these elements. Like I said, I can't help shake the feeling that they opted to try and blow minds with the biggest open world possible, even if completely unnecessary because of other popular open world giants and skimped out on some of these other elements which, for me, are largely why I love the series. I don't give one fuck how big the world is, I want great game design.

Yep.
I'd happily pay for a proper dungeon or 2....or 4.
It's the only really disappointing thing in the game, they really should have gone with 50 shrines and then focused on a few proper dungeons.
Everything else about the world is great but it needed at least a few more dungeons, more so than wind waker.
I'm pleased DLC is coming but i'd be happier if i knew more than one dungeon was coming.

How strong should weapons be when fighting Lynels? Only have 4 hearts. Talking about the one for zora. My weapon is 15 I think

I have yet been able to find the Kilton balloon at night in any town after completing a shady customer side quest. How far out of town should I be looking? Does he appear in the town itself?

Trying to figure out how to deal with Death Mountain. I've got the
Fireproof elixirs from the one girl, but where do I find the fireproof armor? I've read to look at the stable at the base of the mountain but I must've missed it.

You have to go up there before you can get it. Either buy it in Goron City, or do a quest partway up for a dude who will give you the chest piece.

Yep.

On the other hand it would feel kind of shitty to wait years for this game, finally get it, be disappointed with the dungeons, and Nintendo being like oh sorry but here's what you're looking for but you have to pay more money for them.

I mean I'd do it, I've actually already bought the expansion pass because I'm a Zelda whore but I do think that'd kind of suck.

You are super far off from fighting him. You don't have to kill him, just sneak around far away from him, picking shock arrows off trees and rocks.

He's not in the town itself, but pretty close. Just climb a high point and look around, he's sometimes in awkward locations. In Kakariko he's
actually behind the town itself, up the waterfall
but in Lurelin
he's by the coast in plain view
.

I have zero problems with them creating DLC for this game. I have absolutely gotten my moneys worth buying it full price at retail and I want Nintendo to continue adding to this amazing world they've created.

I think the second DLC will be meaty. In addition to dungeon, we will get an original story and more challenges (assuming shrines. Imagine if they added 100 more korok seeds? Haha). I would love additional side quests as well.

The description on Gamestop reads:
Launching holiday 2017, DLC Pack 2 contains a new dungeon, an original story, and more challenges

I would love it if they supported this game for a while like they did with MK8. DLC 3 for next summer would be sweet.

Hahaha, best post I've read all day.
Seriously, F that flower lady. I still run into her by travelling to that shrine, forgetting, and running right into the flowers.

Hahaha. That lady was nuts.

I should go back and burn it all to the ground. I didnt have any fire weapons on me the first time.

Moving quickly is how they run away (unless you're already on top of them or they're running into you). You have to sneak up on them... maybe wear the Sheikah outfit to reduce noise.

Its hard to see lizards ahead of time though. They usually show up after I finish climbing something, and its hard to do stealth when youre climbing. I feel like there aren't enough critters in the world.

Yep.
I was at the spiral sand peninsula in front of a Moblin, he sniffed me for a while, kept looking at me, roared at the sky and swung at me. An approaching Lizalfo from the water may have tipped him off but the ruse was up either way.

I'll have to test more but
I think mixed groups of enemies tip each other off, it's a clever design trick to not make the masks too overpowered.

Exactly, I'm not miffed about additional dungeons/content in DLC because the game is obviously huge and not lacking in content. For me it's lacking in good dungeons but there's still four of them and over 100 shrines. Just because I don't care for them doesn't mean that they're not there!

But if I had no plans to get the DLC and Nintendo was like hey here's some proper dungeons but ya gotta pay more money I'd be like fuuuuuuuu

I liked the beasts I've completed thus far, but I mean I wouldn't say no to traditional dungeons obviously.

I think the DLC will push this game to 11/10 (not that tradungeons have been confirmed or anything.)
