I think this is my favourite area in the game thus far. Just spent a few hours today exploring the area, summiting a few peaks, gliding down to some interesting landmarks, finding a couple of shrines, scoring good loot, and hunting for gourmet meats that go for 100 rupees a pop.

I found the tower guarded by lizard people and electric witch things and electric bats.

Best way to kill the witch guys?

I'm terrible at this game in combat but love everything else about it.

Finished the (Gerudo area stuff)
Yiga Hideout stealth thing. Though it was pretty fun and the Yiga clan liking bananas was pretty charming in a way lol. I can see why others might not like it though. I messed up twice and wanted to get it's cool wind sword, but after I got so easily one shotted after getting caught...I had to pass. >>; Oh well, the boss battle was pretty fun too if it was a bit easy to guess his patterns.

The suffering begins now.

I am not a fan of the combat as well and I tackled that tower by gliding in from the top of the hill nearby. I juuussssttttt made it to one of the tower rest points (the one right at the bottom touching the water). Luckily the enemies didn't see me.

You really don't need to kill those Electric Wizzrobes. Just the lizards since they detect you much faster when trying to get to the tower.

As for best way to kill those wizzrobes? Ice arrows plus bomb arrows are pretty good combo against them, since they can't be OHKO'd by an elemental attack.

I can't imagine it taking more than 10-15 minutes to make one appear with that approach. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I guess I could try just camping till noon -> asking him about the moon -> camping till noon -> asking again until he says BLOOD MOON TONIGHT FELLOW STALKER! and then go, but from my experience blood moons don't just trigger from sleeping a lot, they seem to trigger when the open world has been "emptied" enough. If that makes sense.
I tried this earlier tonight and camped for many, many nights trying to get a blood moon. I gave up.

Out of curiosity did you just try sleeping? Or did you try clearing out a bunch of enemies first? I think I'm gonna kill every single guardian by hyrule castle and a few lynels before I try to sleep for a blood moon.

Dude this is so accurate there are like
20
shrines in that zone and it took me a good 8 hours to find them all.

I zerged the tower after clearing out the lizards swimming around. Put on climbing gear and made a beeline for the top while dodging the onslaught of wizard thunder spam. Your mileage may vary though.

Just glide in! Avoid combat, especially if you don't want to do it.

Any arrow to the face literally stops them in their tracks.

I couldn't glide in close enough.

I used a lot of bomb arrows against one of the bosses so trying to save my stuff.

But I think tomorrow night when I'm home it will just be a bloodbath. I'm taking them all out.

The quickest way to get a blood moon is field bosses. Kill a hinox and a talus and it'll reset with in a day. Lynels also work.

What is the name of the tower? I just climbed to the top of one guarded by lizards and electric wizards but no bats on my first try

Just beat the first dungeon (I think?), the
____Zora____
one.

Pretty cool! Yet, hugely disappointing at the same time. :/

More Sheikah Tech-themed stuff, makes sense for the Beast of course but not a whole lot of variation there... also kinda small place that was mainly puzzle-focused. The boss experience wasn't too good either. I never got a chance to get a feel for the timing to dodge the attacks as he didn't have a ton of HP and switched to the next phase. Then my last bow broke (I came in with several, mind you) during that last phase so I had to resort to jumping behind the pillars to dodge the ice blocks. And oh, camera issues at first when we found ourself on the same platform.

I know Zelda bosses got a bit samey, being puzzles involving that one item you've got, but I think I preferred that to this more open-ended / brute-force approach
Also not a huge fan on having to rely so much on food in the game in general, with a lot of enemies taking away 4+ hearts unbuffed. So much eating. Om nom nom.

Really liking the story beats though.

You can use Cryosis to destroy the ice blocks.

Hah, that didn't occur to me. Thanks. Got caught up with using bow & arrow during the earlier part outside, so I just stuck with that.

Gonna try reloading an autosave and see if I can do the first phase a little better.

This is my first Zelda so I really don't know what I should spoiler tag, so I'm gonna overly spoiler tag this post.

I'm heading to
Zora's Domain
, I went there once before and I am now heading back with enough
electric arrows
. Is there a reason I'm constantly getting electrocuted in the rain now? Can I do anything to prevent that?

If you wear metal stuff (armor, weapons, shields, bows) in the rain you will get struck by lightning. Unequip your metal stuff or switch to wooden stuff.

Don't stand in puddles if you're getting shot at with shock arrows.
Don't wear metallic items during thunderstorms.
And oh, feel free to chug that electric resistance potion during tricky encounters.

Thank you both, I was wearing all metal armor, switching did the trick.

SCREW YOU OAKI
Don't ask for help if you don't want my dang help
I ain't got patience to try that dumb tailing mission for a fourth time tonight, I'm done for tonight and it's all thanks to you. >:(

Starting Horizon right after BOTW was a huge mistake. I just can't handle the by the numbers open world games after this game. Ugh.

Funny story, My cousin let me play Horizon and I was having a good time until I jumped off a high point thinking about activating my Glider.

Aloy has no glider and I died.

Every open world game needs a glider now

I'll disappointed in open world games that can't climb on everything

BotW is totally gonna ruin most open world games for me. Probably gonna just stick to playing story-based games after this like TLG or just vastly different style like Yakuza 0 for a while.

After BoTW, absolutely, the Glider perfectly ties link's moveset together.

Gotta love this game and how it allows you just get lost and still make it enjoyable and rewarding:

I had just finished the
Rito
beast and decided to check out the flight school area by the nearby mountains to see if there was a mini game there. I see some bombable rocks by one of the nearby slopes and as I make my way up there, I run into an enemy camp.

During the fight one of the bokoblins falls down some sort of tight crevasse, I chase him down so that I can kill him and get the chest to unlock but turns out this crevasse leads to a cave that has a Shrine... Stumbling into it out of nowhere made me feel like Indiana Jones.

I complete the Shrine, scale up the nearby peak to scan the area and get rewarded with a Korok seed at the top. As I look around, I mark some peaks and areas of interest, I am wondering if this snowy area even has a "tower" or if I am off-map because I can't see any towers in the distance. Long story short, as I go from peak to peak, I stumble into a couple more Shrines, many more easy to find Korok puzzle, some cool loot (frostblade!), a
giant skeleton mini-boss
and even a random house with a lady that is offering a
shield surfing mini-game
. Discovering all this stuff in the snow is awesome too because the visibility is lower so it's really unexpected.

As I scale up the last peak I see a tower in the distance, it seems super far and looking at my map, I think that this must be the tower for the area with Hyrule Castle. I paraglide all the way to the tower (couple of stamina boosting meals helped) and as I get closer to the tower I realize that this tower is actually for this snowy area I've been messing around in for the last 3 hours: Hebra Tower.

I get the map data and scan around from the top of the tower and this area is huge! I spot a few more Shrines, a couple of stables.... at this point I am ready to save and go to sleep but I decide to do one last Shrine. I paraglide down to it but as soon as I jump I see another house right underneath me, by the tower, it's a
snow bowling mini game
! I mess around with that, get my 300 rupees, go to the last Shrine but I somehow get lost on my way there and discover this giant labyrinth....

It's at that point that I realize that the discovery will never end, I started playing around 9PM thinking I'll head over to complete my 3rd dungeon and I spent close to 5 hours messing around this snowy mountain area, I never thought this area would offer so much, I thought maybe a mini-game at Flight School and a Korok seed or 1 Shrine... insane.

Mario 64 and OoT were the previous games that made me literally say "Holy Shit" but a lot of that was because of the first impressions of seeing these beloved franchises in 3D. 2 weeks in this game, 50+ hours, maybe 30% done and I am still saying "Holy Shit" at various things when I play BotW, the last game I played that had such a lasting impact for me was Super Metroid but this game is so much longer and bigger! It's amazing.

Could this be the inspiration for the Great Fairies in BOTW?

Perhaps some aspects.

I feel like the game's aesthetic is absolutely Studio Ghibli inspired though.

Rupees are so plentiful in this game. Are people not selling their loot?

You don't need to do any stupid bowling minigames.

Lifting rocks well net you a ton.

I think the past few days I found a couple of purple rupees under rocks.

this fucking guy trying to like neg me into liking him near gerudo town is the worst character i've met so far.

i feel pretty justified trying to scam him out of his cool boots

Anyone have any idea where to get rainbow sparrow/pigeons? Have not been able to find them at all. I have been looking in the forest that the compendium says to but still not able to find them for my own picture.

Do they only show in certain weather/time of day? I think sparrows are day but still haven't found them.
