So the latest KF Gamescast asks whether or not Nintendo get a free pass with review scores based entirely on their IPs and their image.

Definitely an interesting question, and I do agree to an extend (i.e. Skyward Sword received an average score of like 93? Huh?)

Twilight Princess got 95 for the equivalent of what Arkham Knight did with forced Batmobile sections that no one liked...

In hindsight that should NOT even be close to a 95.

Ok wtf is going on.

Spoilers

i just followed Oki all the way to the shrine in the trials, activated the terminall, got the chest, activated the alter, but it still shows that I need to follow Oki

LOL that happened to me too. I just repeated it again for the sake of completion on the checklist.

the official guide lied about the location of To Quomo Shrine

It's under the mountain but the guide tells you that it's near the top of the mountain.
The official guide also incorrectly states where to find the Barbarian Helm. Pretty nice book other than the errors.

Is there a way to see how many shrines you did? And if there are 120 why am I having a hard time finding more?

It shows you how many you have completed on the loading screen.

A decent amount (I think like 40) are hidden behind sidequests, and a bunch more are just cleverly hidden in the world. When you start having trouble finding new ones I'd just put your shrine radar on and do other things until the radar starts going off.

A lot of games at that generation were getting scores they really couldn't be getting.

Some notable games that fall in this category in my personal opinion:

GTA IV - 98 on metacritic
Batman Arkham City - 96 on PS3, 94 on 360 (more reviews)
Little Big Planet - 95
Skyrim - 96
Bioshock Infinite - 94
MGS IV - 94
GTA: Chinatown Wars - 93

Is there any special technique for parrying the guardians beam? Cause right now it kinda feels like hitting a major league fastball and im batting .200

Wait...by the terms some seem to be using for "open-world," doesn't that disqualify most of the GTA games by default? You are literally gated from entry to other districts by game logic. Sure, you CAN find your way there most of the time, but it is clearly not intended for you to be there, as there is practically nothing available for you to do.

No, don't be obtuse. I said "heavily gated". GTA is not by anyone's definition "heavily gated".

Skyrim and Arkham City are both 90+ games. I don't think those are overrated. Very fun games, and both games I've put tens of hours into, or in Skyrim's case, hundreds of hours.

Try to focus on the "ping" sound it makes right before firing. That's the signposting that allowed me to learn the timing.

chinatown wars in accurate

Skyrim sure. Maybe not 96, but high. But Arkham City was a step down from Arkham Asylum, losing a lot of its tight focus as it went 'open world'. That shouldn't get 90+. Alas too many reviewers, at the time at least, with an engineering mindset (more features = better). Luckily that's changing. Sloooowly.

So I just found the
Silent Princess
memory.

Zelda's VA is a lot better when the character isn't trying to be too serious. Her nerding out over flowers felt genuine, nowhere near as forced as some of her other scenes were.

Backpedal constantly with shield up, hit parry at the first sight of its laser. If you are too close you have to parry even before his laser comes out, which is harder.

With the exception of GTA IV, those are all of my favorite games from last gen (sans Dead Space and ME).

It's all relative and opinions, of course, but complaining about people inflating their scores based on perception and heritage seems weird and kind of whiny. Like great, you don't like something as much as everyone else, maybe let's not invalidate the opinion of every other critic who did?

I personally didn't like Uncharted 4 as much as critics, and maybe I do kind of believe it reviewed highly in part because of ND's pedigree, but I'm not going to claim that it got a free pass. That's childish. Some people enjoyed it a lot. Same with BotW.

I think BotW deserves all the praise it's getting, for what it's worth.

So I got a little stuck on
Vah Naboris
and had to improvise:
I got to all the terminals bar the one blocked by a gate with two circular electric points needing power. I found one of the electric balls on the top level, but gave up finding the other and came up with this solution...

It was wicked seeing this actually work.
Felt like I just jump started a Devine Beast.

In your opinion.

AC deserves 9+ easily in my book. Probably the first last gen open world game I finished.

A lot of those were extraordinarily well-received by the public, selling a shitload of copies and generally impacting the industry-at-large for years.

Arkham City is a vastly more popular game than the original. Yes, some people prefer Asylum for being the tighter experience, but City was a much larger cultural breakout hit.

Just beat the game, 12.73 percent completed. About 30 hours of playtime. That completion percentage is ridiculous.

That's Map Completion, not Game Completion.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. One of the middle row pics has you go to an end-game area to get it, so doing them in order would be a pain in the rear. The story isn't going to be linear anyway, it's all just snapshots of the past.

OK! Thanks for the clarification. Yeah the artist today sent me to one in the middle, so I guess I'll just do that :)

Yes Transformers is vastly more popular than Citizen Kane.

I put every metal chest on top of the gate and finished the distance out with a claymore. I got fed up with trying to find the second ball.

This isn't even the first time I've seen this, how is this more intuitive to people, lol.

Hmm I wish I didn't put off he labyrinths for so long. They're pretty cool but I'm at the point that I don't even pick up weapons unless they're Lynel gear.

I went to the
north-eastern labyrinth
early on. It was super intense at my then-level, especially the
room underneath the labyrinth itself.

Arkham City was way better than Arkham Asylum. And Arkham Origins is by far the best in the series. Knight was meh.

Knight was my first intro to the series. I absolutely hated the batmobile. I should have started the series with earlier installments.

Kass must be Italian, he is just that charming, plus those bedroom eyes....I want to fuck him so bad.

😂😂😂

Damn. I just hit hour 50 and I still haven't beaten the boss in the first and only Divine Beast that I've finished.
I'm only slightly ahead of you, but that sounds like my pace as well. Can't imagine beating the game in 30 hours or less, but again, I suppose that's the beauty of this Zelda... if you want to, nothing really getting in the way of stopping you.
