Nier: Automata PC performance thread

I'm getting black bars on either side of the game as if it's running in a different aspect ratio even though it's set as 1080p

21:9 works, however if you go fullscreen, the 21:9 resolution is squished to 16:9. Windowed mode looks like it works correctly.

Though, the fullscreen thing might be a GPU aspect ratio setting.

21:9 Nier?! I'm gonna have to see Screenshots, must be amazing

Seems like a 60fps cap. Even if I drop the res real low I only get 60

Cutscenes seem the same as the PS version. There's actually not as many in the game as you might expect though. It's usually real time

there's a decent amount...and its always jarring if your using different costumes

Same here. Top and bottom as well. Popping open the Steam overlay keeps it in those borders as well. Clearly something funky going on with it.

Graphics settings have been added to the OP. Basic stuff, but the important thing is that Platinum has finally embraced proper arbitrary resolution support!

Edit: With the exception of cutscenes, it seems.

The resolution support is really cool.

The broken aspect ration on full screen is a pretty big deal, hope its either not happening to everyone or hotfixed.

Is there someone with a widescreen display that can take a few pics of the game on 21:9? I'd love to see those.

Looks like its going to be a buy for me!

Wat? I understand cutscenes are pre-rendered but are they 1080p? If so that's preeeeeeeeeeetty shit.

The black bar issue seems like it's Metal Gear Rising all over again. Hmm. Try setting it to windowed, and then use Borderless Windowed app to make it fullscreen.

Does it at least have Borderless Windowed?

It does not, unfortunately!

It also seems like the game is running at 900p and upscaling the resolution to your selected fullscreen res, instead of running the game at your requested resolution. I have it set to 1080p, but even the menus are really blurry, and my steam overlay has every sign of being upscaled rather than running native.

Weird requirements, a 980 and 380X are not even remotely comparable. Did they just pick the first two cards they could think of with 4GB of RAM? The same goes for the CPUs too.

That is a shame, so 900p at 30FPS? The movies folder contains 154 files so I think there may be a few more pre-rendered scenes than you think!

Haha I didn't mean to downplay it. I'm just wrong on that one I think. I suppose when I was playing on the PS4 I was surprised how many in engine ones there were but there's plently of pre rendered ones too and that does suck

My guess....is that the graphics settings are equivalent to pro outside of AA and resolution support(and AF) which can be pushed much higher

I played through on the Pro and so far this seems accurate. At 1440p with a locked 60 and everything on high is a huge step up but I don't think there's anything extra going on, just higher res all around

The cutscenes are letterboxed for some reason:

Not just the cutscenes.
The entire game is letterboxed if trying to run it in Fullscreen at 1080p for some people.

I'm curious:
Anyone running into the game getting letterboxed in fullscreen:
Are you using more than 1 monitor?

Hey, I'm totally happy with that. I love physical games, but I'm getting this on PC instead of Pro. Locked 60fps for Platinum Games please and thank you

For some reason, the game isn't rendering at 1080p for me. I don't know what resolution it's at, but it's sure as hell upscaling from something.

Oh no. I'm getting about 40-50fps on an overclocked gtx 980ti, i5 skylake running at 4.4ghz, 16gb ram at 1440p with these settings.

Oh and that is all the settings. doesn't support 1440p native resolution

It does support arbitrary resolutions though - so it should support 2560 x 1440... scroll up

Arbitrary Resolution support seems in!
(or at least I get 2715x1527 listed, which I doubt anyone hardcoded)

Yeah this game looks really clean on my ps4 pro and that's running at 1080p with some good anti aliasing. Make sure you guys check if there is motion blur added. The ps4 didn't have it but the pro did.

edit: nvm i just seen there is a blur toggle.

Scroll up? Should be Screen Brightness, Resolution, Screen Mode and Select Monitor above your picture there

Being able to select the resolution doesn't mean it's properly supported. The image can be stretched from 16:9 and the FOV set too low. Won't know until someone posts screenshots..

My monitor switches to 1080i when i go fullscreen. It washes out the colours and it letterboxes the entire game. Might be the same issue that MG:R had (still has?)
