What is a possible Microsoft answer to Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild?

" it's zelda" is a pointless statement since not all zelda sell 7-8+ million. Your acting as if "it's zelda" means the series is guaranteed something. How was SS? I mean it could happen I just think your reason doesn't make sense

It being Zelda absolutely guarantees a minimum floor of several million. It's an extremely popular, long-lasting, beloved franchise.

As for Horizon, a lot of games have been front loaded this gen. No idea why Horizon is going to be an exception. I'm not saying it won't reach 5 million, but I do think saying horizons 2.6 is going to translate to legs is unlikely.

I expect legs for a few reasons: positive word of mouth, likely bundles, and simply being tied to an extremely well-selling console.

My post to the op was saying they don't need to counter because they have sales in other general. Ops post is clearly a continuation of the Xbox is in trouble threads. Which they are not.

Eh...even so, I would hope we could have a discussion without resorting to divining OP's agenda.

I do wonder if they'll entertain the idea of an open world Fable game now...

And let's see how "good" will Sea of thieves going to sell then.

If Sea of Thieves fails, it will hardly be because of the gaming enthusiasts that ask for more diversity. It will be because the mainstream market didn't care for it.

I see some potential in the PC release for sure.

Not with it being locked to the W10 Store.

Yeah, it's call "Dragon's Dogma Online".

And it has both systems.

Is there a reason we haven't gotten this game in the west yet?

is forza horizon a role playing game ?

Phil spencer theres an idea

give the car from forza some quests to do in the open world

At this stage Microsoft Game Studios should just leave PG Games the fuck alone and not infect them with the virus going around first party studios of creating mediocre games.

Fable's the only one that could do it, but that's before it shit the bed.

Honestly, if they would have taken what they did in Legends and made it open world it would have been fantastic and retained the exploration and discovery roots of the series. The characters were fun to use and the enemies were fun to fight as a group, just a shame they put it all into running courses. For the $75 million they spent on Legends they could have made something huge.

Not 7-8+.

Damn, I forgot it was locked to the W10 store.

Y'all come out of the sewers to say Scalebound when none of ya were gonna get it in the first place otherwise you would have been in the Scalebound threads.

On topic, hopefully Crackdown or Sea of Thieves

Forza is most likley due this year.

Damn shame they gave up on Fable. It really could have been their Zelda...it was their Zelda. How they could not see the prospects of keeping a series like that is beyond me.

Don't get me wrong, your idea of what this game should've been is great and I believe that's what some executives at MS were hoping for.
What they've shown from the singleplayer ran like ass. How many open world games with 4 player coop have we seen so far? PG and Kamiya have bitten of more than they could chew, it seems to me.

Ah okay. Yeah, I'm not a dev so I have no clue if it would be technically impossible to do right now. I'm sure ppl would hate it, but if Crackdown 3 can work with all that destruction and stuff and still maintain good fps, then maybe they could've used "the cloud" to help make it technically possible. I mean, they did show that (sadly boring) boss with the 4 dragons all fighting it. It wasn't running a solid 30fps, but still. I assumed it was just still needing to be polished. You could be right though, maybe it's just not possible to do yet. I sure hope for a day where we get a really fleshed out coop dragon rpg game. I'm one of the 10 ppl in the world that enjoyed Crimson Dragon :p.

All they had to do was make a true successor to Fable/2 on next-gem hardware..None of that barebones fable 3 or legends garbage MP. Im still excited for Crackdown. I could care less about hearing about another Halo/Forza title at this point in time.

Scorpio and maybe Forza are about it. Horizon isn't the kind of game Microsoft is known for pushing anymore. All the IPs Microsoft pushes now are heavily multiplayer and online-oriented.

And a good question to ask is: How many PS4s has Horizon actually sold? From what I can see it's mostly just hyping up people who are already PlayStation fans.

Did I miss something? I think its ridiculous how everyone keeps mentioning Scalebound in every topic about MS when before it was cancelled it rarely got mentioned at all.

There were no posts or threads hyping it up on GAF, the E3 demo looked very poor, it had no release date outside of coming soon. Yet soon as it got cancelled, everyone is acting as if it was a huge killer app that MS let go.

On topic: Crackdown 3 is the game MS has repeatedly mentioned and been talked about as being a huge title for them. I can see that being their next big title.

Phil Harrison told the creative directors at Lionhead that they could not make Fable 4. It had to be an online game. He wanted all of the MS EMEA studios to focus on games as a service.

Seems Spencer is on that same train of thought these days.

Everyone likes to point to Scalebound, but I think a better answer would be the exclusive Obsidian RPG that Microsoft canned a few years back.

Does us a favour, this E3, keep things real. When their show got leaked last summer you said don't worry they have lots more to show, they didn't.

Exactly, Microsoft doesn't have it in them anymore, they're burned out. Can't even get marketing for a proper blockbuster anymore, just bottom of the barrel Shadow of Mordor type scrub. Their internal studios lack talent, being closed left and right, their biggest franchises are dead.
Xbox is done.

Fable only thing I can think of that could be a Zelda-ish type of game but thats prob not going to happen.

Don't think MS really needs something like that, they have there own 1st party games. Halo, Forzas, Gears, all largely un challenged by Sony and Nintendo (IE they don't make a Halo Killer or what ever).

Guess Crackdown has the potential to be a large open world game but who knows at this point.

that would be impossible to tell with so many other reasons to own a PS4 in 2017 but i can see Sony bundling it in this holiday as a bundle choice since UC4 did so well for them

From a cost perspective I appreciate the decision to bring their exclusives to both XBONE and PC. However, it makes me wonder why get an Xbone.

Also, outside of Sea of Thieves and maybe Crackdown 3(?) I don't really see any upcoming games I have missed that I would want to get (minus older games I have missed (Gears 4, Forza Horizon 3).

Oh god forbid some of us as fans would like to see something from them or improve in certain things. Not all of us are concern trolls my good man.

Hmm you said first party. I was gonma say Halo 6, Fable 4, Lost Odyssey 2 or Blue Dragon 2, but they aren't big open adventure games :'(

What concern trolling, their best days are behind them. And they haven't even announced any games for the distant future, it's clear as day. Sony has got all this shit in the pipeline for 2019-2021. Xbox has what, Halo 6 and Forza Motorsport 8?

Please... Just stop.

don't be too hasty

Ow

Zelda I don't think so but Crackdown is ambitious and that cloud based destruction could bring some fresh gameplay ideas to the formula.

Pretty sure if MS announced games for 2019-2021 people will starting bashing them announce games so early.

It was the highest rated Xbox exclusive in the most anticipated of 2017 thread though.

Honestly, I can see Fable working here. Obviouy keep the Fable-ness but some focused combat and great story would work.

I mean the brand was still powerful when the left it with 3! Phill, you said you wanted to focus on first party, there we go, it's right infront of you!

If there's a quote somewhere confirming that, then it pretty much confirms what it looks like Microsoft has been doing since the latter part of the 360 era.

MS is much more concerned with games as a service and in general improving the Xbox service than it is with static, story-driven games. For those types of experiences MS won't do any more than maybe publish or co-fund something from a third party like ReCore or Tomb Raider. Halo, Gears, and Forza right now all fit into that games as a service mold. Scoripio is going to be MS's answer because it believes it will improve the Xbox platform overall, including multiplatform games running on it. There might be a new Forza which ends up being a new "service." To be honest the most similar thing from MS to Horizon and Breath of the Wild that I've played came out last year: Forza Horizon 3. It's an open-world game that has very fun core gameplay, just with cars instead of swords and bows, and it has a whole bunch of online features.

And some may not like to hear this, but I actually think those service-oriented games make more business sense if we're talking pure profitability. Zelda is Zelda, and is the standard bearer for the Switch this year, but I really don't know how much Horizon is gonna do, both for itself and for the PS4 as a whole. It'll do fine, but I don't know if it's gonna keep bringing in money for Sony throughout the year. I'm not convinced it's a mainstream hit yet. If more people keep buying a lot of PS4s this year I have a feeling a ton of them are just going to keep buying GTA V and Madden on them. There's got to be a reason everybody else is moving on to games as a service. Even Nintendo is backing up Zelda with Mario Kart and Splatoon 2.
