NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

It explicitly is. A sidequest mentions facade by name.

Also, real talk here. 6O asked out the Commander, right? I mean, she is very knowledgeable about the state of her room...

I always imagined she asked out 21O. She's so frosty, I can see her rejecting her pretty hard. That said, the Commander isn't too different.

Just reposting this

I just finished and had a question about the end of Yorha. Is this like a perpetual thing that happens over and over to continue the war w/ the machines or was it just a one time thing that happens when too much time's passed?

here's Jackass' report from the end of the game about the events: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=232460800&postcount=1681

there's only ever been one YoRHa. there have probably been other organizations somewhat like YoRHa in the past to inspire the androids to fight for humanity. i actually don't know if there will be another organization like this in the future because Jackass knows what the deal is now and i doubt she'll keep it a secret because she's Jackass. she'll surely spread the word that this is all bullshit and another YoRHa-style development will fail.

I loved the whole Credits shooter thing and the ending song so much. It's sooo amazing.

When they told me that all my save data would be erased if I help people... I'm like ohhhh hell no! Haha!

The thing is though, every "human" in the original Nier is basically an android. Its why they can't reproduce and are immune to WCS. Its just not stated in that blunt way because it needs to save the reveals til the end.

There's no indication or reason to believe that the people of facade are any different from the replicants in Nier's village; none of them are truly human because if they were then they'd have succumbed to WCS and either turned to salt or become part of the Legion.

So ultimately, the "humans" the machines are copying are just an earlier generation of android...

Not only do you find the lithographs in the desert, but the houses that are buried under sand and the grave like statues you can find look suspiciously like the ones from Facade. It's obviously the same place, which makes me wonder if the ruined city is the same city from the end of Nier.

21O has very complicated feelings for 9S. Part of why I like playing as 9S is the interaction with her shifting attitude and unintended stoic clumsiness in how to deal with him. It also gets him confused as she is, first flirting with her with no apparent response, then thinking she is mothering him, then the final fight against her reveals she just really wanted to be with him, period.

She also volunteered to become a fighter B android near the end, perhaps misguidedly trying to be more like 2B or just more directly aid them (meaning aid 9S really).

But previous versions of Yorha that were backdoor destroyed and reformed?
There is no previous version of YoRHa. It merely the most recent project from the Android side in their long, long war with the Machines and the goals of the project are outlined in the intel files.

Nah, it wasn't YoRHa. This is what Taro Yoko does, he makes lore and then really only hints at what happens. The events in this game isn't the entire 14th Machine war either. But what we do know is that Emil fought in the first machine war, assuming that the alien invasion fused with the machine war later on. The rest were probably androids trying various things, while trying to keep the lie about humans still being alive going.

It's funny, when that call came up I didn't even think about the fact that it meant 6O was gay. I just thought it was sort of a given that she'd be interested in a female model, given that from what we can see 9S seems to be the only male android.

The game does a lot of kind of weird things with sex and gender; fitting considering nearly every character is technically a robot of some sort. Eve has a woman's name despite identifying as "male" (though not possessing actual genitalia either way), Pascal identifies as a he despite having a woman's voice, robots have NO identifying sexual characteristics but assume genders anyway via clothing or mannerisms. And the Yorha androids have sexual thoughts and form romantic relationships despite being nearly mono"gendered". Like, does 9S even really know what "Wanting to fuck 2B" actually means? Does Adam? Do either of them even have the capacity? Does it mean the same thing to 6O and her crush? It's a curious thing that it's technically an incredibly sterile world where NOBODY is having actual sex or even has a birth gender and yet sex and gender are still a thing.

There's a side quest that suggests 9S does understand sex and reproduction. In it a machine child asks him multiple times how children are made, but 9S is embarrassed by it and is dismissive.

Adam most likely does, at least from his limited perspective of going over human records.

Edit: also, in the side quest 9S at one point attempts to get 2B to answer the question for him, but she nonchalantly dismisses it, forcing the conversation back on him.

Yeah and in the Desert housing complex when you are chasing the machine down into the pit where all the machines are gathered (right before the debut of Adam/Eve, many are performing sexual actions.)

So I just got ending E

"Personal data deletion request denied"

Is now one of my all time favorite moments. They spend so much time in route C building up the pods as growing sentience, but never would I have foreseen how far that would go. They feel like a player extension right at the end, especially for me.

"I have come to the conclusion that I cannot accept this resolution" Either they are player extensions, or mass effect fans after 3.

Ending E is in my top 10 gaming moments of all time i think, just the craziness of it all, the growing of the choir in the song as people join to help, then the after credits scenes. So special and unique.

What if anything is the reward for getting all weapons? I was actually pretty surprised that there were no special restrictions on getting to see endings C->E.

As with nier 1 it's hard to get a good scale of the world at large, probably in purpose lol.

Whole game is just on 1 county basically. There seems to be other forces around that you see during the giant emp robot fight, but that's the extent of your knowledge of the world.

BTW were there any happy ending side quests? Feel like everyone I remember ended sad for the most part.

i cant get over how well done 2b is

you basically learn literally nothing about her the entire time she's alive and she seems like a boring as shit but once everything is revealed in endings c-e she suddenly becomes insanely interesting and tragic, especially just looking at how she acts in regards to stuff considering she is already privy to the horrible truth of the war (to where it's literally pointless)

like the actual flip between 'wow 2b is really fucking boring' to 'wow 2b is insanely interesting and her relationship w all the characters is ridiculously complex and sad' is straight insane

That to me was more of the machine network "knowing" about sex. At the time, Adam lacked a physical form, so I think he was controlling the machines to do that in an attempt to understand humanity.

It's entirely possible that Adam only created his physical form to better understand humanity. That may also be why he chose to hang out in an abandoned housing complex.

Yeah the way they add depth to her character is insane.

This is why beating the game is so marvelous, because it's one of those things that you can come back to and look for all the little hints sprinkled about as you progress through the game, including the sidequests.

I also just love how they take her opening line in the beginning and turn it from something that admittedly sounds a little edgy/try-hard to something that is just utterly depressing once you realize what she's actually referring to.

True.

I just finished replaying the game on PC and it's also really insane how much buildup for that stuff there is. It's not some BS twist coming out of nowhere, a lot of completely minor reactions of her throughout the game shine in a completely different, much more tragic light if you know about her background.

You can do this?

You know, I need to see if there is a video of the E android sidequest to see if 2B gives anything away.

She does. I think i even wrote about that some many pages ago because it blew me away, even if it's a minor thing.

On the PS4 you can swipe the touchscreen to do that. I don't think it's possible on PC tho, at least not with an XB1 Pad (or i was too stupid to find the correct input for it)

Feels good to be here. E had me super confused. I played the credits scene for a long time without dying and then restarted once before giving up and coming back to it today.

So amazing.

I will have to go through this thread and read about it since I am still kind of confused from route C with the machine gods and what is really going on.

What a wonderful game. There are a few side quests I will go back and get.

Has anybody chose to give up their save? Does that actually happen?

She sure does. And thinking back on it, I wonder if 2B getting jealous was deliberately included in that quest as a distraction. Taro was hoping people would focus on the cuteness and shipping fuel, and not put too much thought into the conspicuous introduction of a secret unit type that 2B happens to know about.

And did 2B ever know the truth about the war?

yes, she knows from the start

rewatch the intro after the prologue, when everyone is doing the 'glory to humanity' spiel - she is very visibly getting super mad/uncomfortable

to note, i think she never once says that or generally anything actually positive about humans

apparently there's an E-series android right there in the prologue bit where it shows the IDs of the flyers, so lol

Ah ok, I think I have to rewatch/play some stuff because I completely missed this. Read on the wiki 2B was created to destroy 9S models? New info for me lol.

Sometimes the game gives you this info during combat, I always miss all of that.

There's a sidequest called "Amnesia" that really sets this up, although "Wandering Couple" is also somewhat related.

So did anyone else ignore the amusement park tank wondering what would happen? There's even dialog for it. But you have to kill it if you want 100% unit data.

It's literally the final exposition dump right before the fight between 9s and 2A lol

Has anybody chose to give up their save? Does that actually happen?

It does. I initially didn't do it cos i wanted to finish up some stuff first, but then i replayed the part and comitted.

You know, 9s never really stopped being a racist about machines. Which is weirdly realistic lol.

Know my fair share of smart intelligent people that just can't see black people as equal.
