Toukiden 2 |OT| Action Hunting Gameplay Feat. Open World

Any tech gurus playing this on PC able to assist me a bit?

i7-4770k
Nvidia GTX 770
8GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit.

  1. Game doesn't even boot after clicking "OK" on the launcher settings
  2. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No go.
  3. Graphics Drivers are completely updated. No Go.
  4. Sound Card and XBox360 drivers are all installed correctly. Nothing.
  5. Uninstalled and reinstalled the C++ Redistributibles. No Go.
  6. Download any available Windows Updates and tried installing those. Nothing.
  7. Tried every combination of Graphics/Window settings in the launcher. Nope.
At this point I may very well have to get a refund. The game just wont start after I choose my settings and click Ok on the resolution/graphics launcher.

Are you using anything like MSI afterburner or EVGA Precision. Or anything that may try to hook into the game when it's loading?

I shouldn't be playing this right now since I'm in the middle of Nier, but I can't put it down. I liked the original, but I didn't expect to enjoy this so much. I really like what they've done with the open world, even if it is still split with corridors. It still feels open to me.

That said, the amount of dialogue not subtitled is irritating me. It's bad enough having none while running around and constantly hearing the AI talking, but there was unsubbed dialogue in the middle of a story scene I played tonight which is ridiculous.

YIL that naginatas are apparently shit weapons. I guess I should be embarrassed to admit that was seriously the ONLY weapon type I ever used in Kiwami for 90 hours. I assume that explains why some late-game battles took like 20 minutes lol.

I'm trying to find a new weapon I like in 2 then since that would probably be a good idea. I started with chain&sickle but it seems pretty worthless unless you use lock-on all the time (which I never do). It whiffs normal mobs horribly and that whole "no right stick aiming" thing is god awful. Thanks for the heads up maouvin about the R1 thing, I didn't know that. I did it with L1 but that obviously just ends up locking on too.

Main the aerial Chain&Sickle for maximum fun.

As a C&S main since T1, I support this advice. The air time you get from the air combos are lovely. It becomes a game in itself to not touch the ground!

I actually thought of diversifying my main weapon from C&S to something else, bow or rifle or something....but hey, I just started T2 with C&S again and the fun comes right back!

Damn, that's sounds bad, please fix this KT.

I don't think so, but at the same time I'm not the smartest tech guy in the world so I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.

EDIT: Seems they are overclocking utilities. Most definitely not then.

It's a total bummer that quest markers go away once you accept them. I have to turn one in yo a dude praying by a statue... I have no fucking clue where he is.

Running something similar on my end, apart from the GPU (1070). A few things you can try:

- Close all background processes related to game overlays. I know Fraps sometimes does weird stuff with the game, for example.
- Change your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 if you're running it higher than that.
- Try and install it on your C drive

I was with the same issue, couldn't even get past the launcher.
Updating Windows 7 like Pibbs said on Steam solved the problem. :)

So nice being a novice slayer again. Just use whatever weapon you like, with whatever mitama you find interesting, without worrying about efficient builds.

What's the verdict on the Vita version?

The environment is low res, there's quite the pop-in and dips are frequent - but sometimes if affects only the oni, it's weird lol (the oni moves slowly, but the rest not).
My "camera distance" bar is at half, and I crank it on the "far" side when I jump to the PS4. The default is camera as close as possible, so playing like that might help a bit with performance.

I was thinking about rebuilding the database to see if it changes something, but just to think on reorganizing my bubbles...

It runs better than the demo though.

Urrrg, I played through the entirety of Tou 1 with the club so in the demo I thought it would try out some of the other weapons and every one feels fine but I keep getting drawn back to the club again. When this game come out (thanks Europe) I might just be super boring and go back to clubbing the Oni to death.

What's the verdict on the Vita version?

Environments are pretty ugly, but the oni look great and the gameplay is smooth. The only big gripe I have with performance is that when there are too many small oni on screen some of them will pop-out and disappear, which can be frustrating. I haven't had any issue with the large Oni. Overall I'd say it seems worthwhile on the Vita.

We are looking into this.. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

I received my code last night after Amazon support told me I'd have to contact you directly. Seems there was a delay hiccup in their system and support (lol) has not idea what is going on as usual.

The guy you have to get two food items for? Quest people should display a checkmarked box once you have the stuff they need. If that guy is bugged, just leave town, jump off the cliffs, and head left-ish and he should be pretty close. Even if there's no quest marker, NPCs still will show up as a blue dot on the minimap.

Can I play the second one without ever touching the first game? I mean story-wise...

Yeah. Although it doesn't really summarize or re-explain common themes. I only just triggered Chapter 2 (after around 10 hours) and as long as you know Awakening = oni show up, slayers kill oni, and shrine maidens make barriers, you're good.

Now outside of story, I do kind of feel like the tutorial sections in the main mode really expect you to have played the first one. Granted, yes, there's an awesome trainer guy in town who will explain anything and everything to you. However, just playing the normal story only explains like 10% of the buttons, and half of the tutorial dialog is just shown in random subtitle text while you're in the middle of fighting a big oni so it's practically impossible to pay attention to. Long story short, take a look at the manual in the pause menu and talk to the training dude (next to the mission giver) for any weapon/demon hand demonstrations.

For some random examples, the tutorials never even tell you there's a dodge button or holding R1 lets you run. And all the advanced demon hand stuff is done within subtitles during a battle.

WHAT? 10 hours and only chapter 2? Is the campaign supposed to be massive? How long is it supposed to be?

When and how do I play MP mode with friends?

Same, I'm just getting to Chapter 2 at the 10 hour mark. However Chapter 1 is not 10 hours long. Most likely Dinosur did the same as me and did either random stuff in the open world, multi-player, or farm missions.

You can play MP the moment you unlock those big blue stones you can interact with. You see one of them at the HQ.

Yeah. It's almost like 2.5 games in one.

The first game was just like Monster Hunter where you walk up to a desk, select a mission, load the zone instance and kill the thing you're supposed to kill.

That whole system is still in Toukiden 2. Plus an equal version for multi-player.

However, there's also a legit story mode in an open-ish world with side quests, random bosses/events and all that stuff now too. It should be a massive game, especially in the time-sink category.

I've updated my Windows 7 to the latest version with all service packs but no go unfortunately.

Don't even have FRAPS installed. My resolution is on 1920x1080 and I've tried running the game in both that resolution and smaller ones.

Haven't tried the C:\ yet as it's my SSD and Steam installs everything to my D:\, I will give it a shot when I get home.

The open world is hands down the best addition to the game. Even if the gameplay isn't that different from the original, the open world structure for SP makes it a lot more interesting and unique feeling.

To give a general idea of how long it can be: after 25h the best weapon/armor I can craft is rank 3 while the highest rank is 9.

Not sure how far I am into the story though, I'm at chapter
06
and I don't want to look up how many there are.

Hey, thanks. I'm pretty sure it was bugged. It just showed up randomly after I did a joint operation. I'm going to start putting markers down just in case. That's a neat system.

Crap, there are multiple markers? That would have helped a lot last night since I ran into a side quest that required a certain person type to be in the party.

Really getting into this now.

Ok, the pop-out may be a bigger problem on Vita than previously expected. I just had a manhunter disappear on me in the middle of a fight and it was the only Oni on screen. That's pretty concerning.

I had fun with sword, but it seems to have zero aerial game which I could foresee being boring as shit against larger oni since you'll just be whacking their feet for infinity while the AI has all the fun taking off the top parts.

Yeah I was super excited about the CAC but hilariously enough the girl I wanted to create was damn near close to the default. I think I just changed nose to 4, mouth to 8, left everything else on default and there was Su-metal. I messed with making the jaw/chin wider for a rounder face but figured that would end up making the character model goofy in-game.
What?! I mained Naginata in the first game and I absolutely destroyed with it and I am doing the same in T2 I just couldn't enjoy other weapons.
Naginata are good weapons if you know how to combine them with mitama

Currently downloading the game on PS Vita.

Kiwami is one of my favorite titles on the Vita so naturally I had to try the demo on both the PS4 and the Vita. Bought it on the Vita because I get a lot of downtime at work so I reckon demon-hunting would be a great way to pass the time.

Shield Sword and Whip both seem like fun weapons. The offensive stance for the shield sword make attacks super quick. And the kunai detonations for the whip makes it easier to take down bosses pretty quickly - at least from what I've noticed.

This is excellent! Gonna get some mileage out of this game!

Turns out I was wrong, the highest gear rank is 6 this time around. I guess Kiwami 2 is bringing the last 3.

Is it me or does the colour palette/brightness seem quite dark in this game? Can't seem to change it in game either.
Yup, I had to crank brightness up on my TV because the game doesn't have a gamma option. Doesn't help with recorded videos, though.

When are you able to upgrade your weapons more than 3 times? Anyone gotten to that point yet?

I could go up to +6 sometime in Chapter 2. Not sure if I did anything specific to trigger it.

Dunno if it's what you're looking for, but there's a brightness slider in settings -> display at least on the PS4 version.

Yeah I just switched back to naginata and they're still my favorite weapon. I dunno why that guide in the OP says they suck because I'm having no problem with 'em. You can stay in the the air 5x longer than in kiwami because the focus drain isn't as intense and some moves will send you higher. Plus that new "hold square" move is like having a little mini destroyer attack.

This game was nowhere to be found in stores today, I'm doubting if there is even a physical release for Europe?

Bought it on PSN to be able to play today.

Exactly I actually preparing a build to keep me in the air for long time the demon hands makes it even easier with the grapple

My favorite self-named move "Raising Dragon"
Hold triangle and after you are airborne hit circle once it will do two slashs then will launch you upward again

Anyone else like using the poison and paralysis weapons?

Like I want to craft the elemental stuff but I almost like having a catch all weapon for when I go out.

Finally saw the credits after around 14 hours (pretty much just straight through the story) and as someone who mainly plays these games solo it was really nice to have an actual story mode that wasn't just going straight down a mission list until you unlocked the next story mission. Are there any other games in this genre that have done that?

I didn't come into this expecting a lot, but I had a great time with it. My only real complaint is the unsubbed dialogue. I don't have a clue if any of it was actually story related (outside one scene) or just random chatter between your teammates, but for a full price game I don't think it is too much to ask that everything be translated.

Now it's back to Nier.

On Vita we have Soul Sacrifice (go with SS Delta), God Eater and Freedom Wars.
On PS4/PC I believe there's just God Eater.

And, of course, Toukiden Kiwami if you skipped that.

Man, your machina deleveling when it comes back broken from a failed mission has to be a leftover mechanic from the F2P version. So, so lame.

I have a question . is there any bonuses for completing the demo first ?

And what are the bonuses if you have a toukiden 1/kiwami save ?

Are you using any sound-related apps? sound enhancers, eq, that kind of shit? they're known to fuck up some games.

I don't think the demo has bonuses maybe 10 sacred branches, but the Kiwami bonus should be Hatsuho and Soma's outfits.

Is that the
Chthonian Cannon
?

Yup. Craft it when you can: it's pretty much the best gun on Normal.

Busy with the expert post game stuff atm. Unsure how to unlock tier 6 weapons...I think the upgrade only shows when you have at least 1 of each required material, which is a pain. Busy going through the expert missions to unlock the Cthonian.

How do you turn supply routes safer? Just kill stuff on the area until it drops? Or is it story based?

edit: thanks Caim!
