Anyone's got a reliable and fast method to farm star fragments? It seems like such a grind.

Do you know about these seven star fragments that you can get in the world?

1) Feed dog at Lurelin Village
2) Feed dog at Snowfield Stable
3) Talk to woman at Outskirt Stable after obtaining the Master Sword
4) Floating barrel challenge at Riverside Stable (not 100% sure if this is the right stable but its one of the stables in Hyrule field)
5) Chest at Thyphlo Ruins near Ketoh Wawai Shrine (north of lost woods) http://imgur.com/a/uEqsa
6) Chest in water near docks near the Shrine located inside Hyrule Castle.
7) chest in over world http://imgur.com/a/dlNOI

I think only one of these is listed in the official guide (3).

You need a total of six star fragments to upgrade non-amiibo and non-silly-diamond-jewlery armor.

I need like 16x4 to max all the amiibo green tunics tho.

No BotW has no critical story path at all. If you just want to "follow a story" and chase quest markers on the map for the main story, you're probably going to be very frustrated with the game.

That's not what I meant. I mean, you can't "play it wrong" and "screw yourself" by playing it how you want. I understand that if you ONLY do story path and never get new weapons or shrines to upgrade your health/stamina, the game is going to be REAL difficult and you're going to get rocked by enemies along the way if you NEVER fight or cook food.

I am going off the beaten path all the time. About 30 hours in and have done one guardian. I'm talking about just missing out on that's absolutely necessary to finish the game.

I'm sort of worried about going into Hyrule Castle with too good of a loadout. Hopefully things don't get too easy due to the time I'm spending doing sidequests, upgrading equipment and so on...

I'll be honest its not really a challenge. Ive explored most of it, fighting everything on the way and i have lost probablt 2/3 of my hearts, and im not really dodging much.

But the exploration aspect is great. It really shows they can nail the exploration feel of the open world in a smaller scale and it makes me hopeful that the next zelda is more traditional but keeps the sense of discovery and exploration like I'm feeling here. It also has the best music so that helps.

Whatever loadout you got, you will get better weapons inside. There are some weapons there that I havent seen in the overworld, and Im like 110 hours in.

^ That's all true. Isn't it? I need affirmation.

Yes. As one of those JRPG nerds who put in 100's of hours running around New Los Angeles and the rest of the XBCX world and haven't even acquired a mech, you are right on the money.

I know I can probably speed up my experience in BoTW, but I just don't want to.

Gotta say about the ending after playing it a second time,
the moment the "Calamity Ganon: Scourge of Hyrule Castle" title fades onto the screen, moving onto the scene where the champions fire their lasers, is ultra hype and redeems most of the middling actual finale. Just knowing anyone who's hanging out in the world is witnessing those mega death lasers and knowing the moment has finally come really gives it some grandiosity, even if they don't show those reactions. I get goosebumps every time.

Ok, travel really need to get fixed so we can't use it in fights. As much as it save me from a certain death in a certain area, it need to get fix that it cannot be used in combat. Its a too easy way out of a difficult situation.

Why not just die though? Death means nothing in this game.

Just don't travel. I never do.

Don't use it? I like it being there. I don't need to be punished in every game.

Yeah i normaly dont use it in these situation, im not force to use it, but i think its just a free ticket way out of any situation. Hoping a patch could fix this.

Free ticket out of what? there is no penalty for death or reloading the last autosave, its way easier to do that than tping away.

A lot of people say this works for star fragment farming. https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/189707-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild/75120724

Supposedly the star fragment is programmed to drop in your line of sight so you shouldn't move your FoV.

People post that they get a lot of them in an hour.
Thanks, that's very helpful. From what I've gathered, you get a 50% chance of seeing a star every night, except on nights of full moon it's 100%. If it happens in your fov, it will at least save a few minutes each night.

You don't lose anything dying and you don't win by escaping.

escaping like this seems intentional by the developers

So just did my first -- A specific shrine mechanic spoiler --
motion controlled shrine.
I gotta say, not a fan of those shrines. I hope there aren't that many of them.

FInished up Horizon and ready to dive into this game, and I am finding it very intimidating. Got out of the Great Plateau and made it to Impa, but I feel like I am playing the game "wrong" if that makes sense. I get the entire point is to go where you want, but can anyone recommend a good guide to use? A best route to go?
Do shrines, unlock towers amd avoid enemies until you get decent weapons. Hell, I started fighting only after I reached Zora.

Just beat it. Legit had fun on the final boss. Didn't explore every nook and cranny before doing it but this probably won't be my only playthrough either

If it holds up over multiple playthroughs I have to rank it as my favorite. It's just such a marvelous package.

I love discovering new Stables.

I went hunting for Guardians at night time when suddenly it started raining heavily. Lightning starts striking everywhere. I get on Epona and start to ride out. We keep riding through the rain, avoiding lightning strikes and enemies here and there and eventually arrive at a cross roads. We go right and a short while later I start to hear a familiar tune over the sounds of heavy rain.

I see Outskirts Stable just ahead. I get super excited and breathe a sigh of relief as if I was the one who went hunting and riding for real. It was a surreal moment. I was looking for a place to rest and as if the game was trying to answer my prayers, I stumble upon a totally new stable that provided shelter just when I needed it.

I had this encounter while playing in bed under covers and it was one of the coziest, most soul satisfying adventure experiences ever.

You already know I splurged for the soft bed.

Tonight's discovery: with
Revali's Gale
and a few stamina-restoring potions, it's totally possible to fly from the top of Death Mountain to Hyrule Castle.

I'm also curious, Death Mountain is the highest point in Hyrule, right?

Well after feeling bored of the game I tried to hold on interest by trying a speedrun of an all dungeons speedrun. My times are as follows:

Great Plateau: 0:44
Divine Beast Medoh: 1:07
Divine Beast Rudania: 2:19
Divine Beast Ruta: 0:59
Divine Beast Naboris: 2:36
Calamity Ganon: 0:29
Total: 8:14

Not bad at all for my first try and without looking up any speedrun routes commonly used. Just did it all on my own.

More thoughts:
Didn't use whitsle glitch. I ain't putting my hands through that.

Sucked at Naboris since I couldn't remember exactly where Yiga was. Then it was closed off when I got to it. Nope, can't sequence break that. >_<

Spent too much on fireproof elixers and should've used arrows more since I had alot left. But trying to make sure I had enough.

Used ancient arrow I got from Beedle on Zora Lynel lol.

Died four times on Thunder Ganon.

Did sequence break Zora. Came from a high mountain south of Death Mountain and landed right at the King LMAO.

Thunder Ganon too strong to do first but should do Yiga first for all the bananas for bosses.

I have to remember tu use Reveli on the last camel part instead of the green balls. -_-

And shout out to Revali's Bow.

I enjoyed and and will eagerly see what I can do faster in the future. Don't want to touch a straight to Ganon run since it'd all be one hits and I can't do that lol.

So guys how is the portable experience? controls and comfort wise?
I am soon buying the switch and Zelda on sole purpose of using it as a portable device. I don't think I will even take the dock out of the box.
So aside the short battery, do you guys like the portable mode?

2/4 divine beasts beaten, maybe around 40 hours into it. still loving it. the biggest negative i have with this game is the lack of enemy variety. the enemies that are there are all great, there's just a lack of discovery exploring new regions when the enemies are the same. then again, i haven't really explored the desert or death mountain yet, so there might be some surprises.

there is a huge variety in the animals though. i wonder if they're why there aren't as many enemy types. not sure if it was worth it, but they do add a lot to the game's atmosphere.

besides that the game is great. except for the combat shrines though. they suck.

I've got about 45 hours in Zelda and only played dock a couple of those. Portable mode looks and feels great. I can only play a game 2 or 3 hours at a time so battery hasn't really bothered me. It's an awesome handheld

Or fight nonstop, growing both your skill and the base weapon damage level so you can fight certain enemies without real frustration.

Wait, there's an XP(?) benefit to fighting enemies? Like, it makes your weapons (weapons in general, or just the type you use, or just that specific weapon of that type) stronger?

I've done 64 shrines and only came across three of them.

That's a relief. I'm not even sure how I completed the one I just did. It was pure luck lol

The controls and comfort are both okay. I find the Switch form factor slightly awkward when I compare it to holding a gamepad or a Wii U tablet (which was basically a gamepad), but it's pretty well in line with other handhelds for comfort, apart from being a touch heavier. I could wish the face buttons were a little larger, but it's not something I think about while playing.

No, the game progressively scales with you, so the more you kill and the more you kill of certain types, the stronger those enemy types and the weapons they drop are. They refresh every blood moon.

Memory #8:
How badass was Link back in the day? Literally a pile of corpses at his feet with only a few scratches. THREE DEAD LYNELS. Holy shit dude.

I've never once used it for that.

Don't do it if you don't like it.

Just beat the
Rito
Divine Beast and you guys were not kidding at how easy it was. Yeesh! I made the mistake of doing the
Goron
one first and that was a test in frustration, but now I'm kind of glad I did because if I did the
Rito
one first I probably would have been disappointed at its lack of difficulty.

I ended up doing
Goron > Gerudo > Zora > Rito
in that order.

I agree. I've been trying to find that scene on YouTube, unsuccessfully.

Kass
is finally home, and the payoff really was something special. Both the revelation of his final song and seeing him and his kids together... just put a smile on my face.

Over 100 hours later and this game continues to wow me. Almost done though. 8 shrines to go.
DUDE USE SPOILER TAGS

I had no idea that was going to happen, man

Looking to a guide to find the last 6 shrines I'm missing and I just found 2 more gyro shrines. Man I thought I was done with these a long time ago. These ones weren't that bad though since they were very cheese-able.

Don't worry, brother. He didn't spoil any of the really good stuff. Honest to God, you have something to really look forward to. That said, do NOT click on my spoiler tag below or you'll spoil that surprise.

I wish Kass'
epilogue about Zelda's romantic love for Link was shown instead of told.
What a huge missed opportunity.

There's nothing to "fix." This game is all about having fun doing what you want to do. If I don't want to fight a particular enemy, I shouldn't be punished for that.

With the restrictions that other games put on fast travel, the freedom of travel in this game is honestly refreshing.

Teleporting during combat and dying leads to the same result. In fact, you lose more if you travel because you used your weapons.

This is a solution in search of a problem. It's there for people who want the option, you don't have to exercise that option if you don't want to. Nothing needs fixing.

The last thing Zelda needs is changes which limit what players can do in the game out of some irrational fear that some players might *gasp* abuse something and progress in a way others don't. Lol. It's literally taking what made this game great and try to backpeddle from it.
