Lego City Undercover Switch cover mentions 13GB download [Up3: Full game on card]

Thats ok WB.
You can just piss off and choke on that cartridge then.

There is no excuse for this shit.
My 24 GB of space is reserved for gameupdates and small indie titles. Not cheap basterds.

This is the first time I am saying this literally and not sarcastically:

Pre-order Cancelled.

I have been a big defender of the Switch. And of Nintendo in general. But they should not allow companies to do this. What is the point of having a cart at all if there is nothing on it. QD Heroes I and II proves that the carts are big enough. This is just WB trying to rip-off customers to save a few bucks (on a full-priced $60 port of a 4 year old game). And I am mad that Nintendo is letting them do this. It sets a terrible precedent.

I was going to buy this because my daughter and I loved the WiiU version (aside from the loading screens). I was willing to cough up another $60. I might be a sucker but I'm not that big of a sucker.

I will no longer buy this or any other game with such consumer unfriendly "features".

And I will encourage others to do the same.

Tony Hawk was completely on the disc. Everything else is just a rumor. On the other hand the game was very buggy, but that's something completely different.

Hmm ok. I was just going on what someone else told me. Someone said the disc was basically a demo and required a patch. But I'll stop mentioning that if it isn't true. Never played myself.

So, why LC:U needs only 8,2GB if bought from Eshop? European Eshop here, so languages take the additional 1GB.

Did anyone answer to that one guy from page 1 or 2 where he said that he sees a tad over 7GB in his Eshop?

I should have known that WB is - again - shooting themselves in the foot with their launch on a new Nintendo console.

It is expected at this point, sadly. Only thing missing is ceasing support in about a year with regards to missing sales while pulling all these shenanigans (remember Injustice support, Arkham Origins etc. on Wii U). I refuse to believe that they couldn’t easily eat up the cost of a bigger cart when indie publishers can even stomach the smaller cart costs (Nicalis, Frozenbyte etc.). I’d imagine Nintendo would have done several (!) calculations with different sizes, budgets and publisher strategies in mind before finally deciding on the cart medium. Things like this must have been known risks that had to be planned for.

Would this be any other publisher I’d equally blame Nintendo, but with WB, from my experience, I see most of the blame with WB, especially in the case of a 4 year old, half Nintendo-funded port.

The version you get from the eshop will ALSO have the 13gb "patch. "

The gameplay is limited while the game is installing, but that`s it.

Is that mentioned somewhere in the Eshop? Because that is outright lying about the space requirements.

I think that WB is so very scummy because there is no shadow of a doubt that Nintendo didn't pay them something to make the original Nintendo exclusive. Won't be buying anything from them anytime soon (unless some facts emerge that will make me change my mind).

Nintendo really cheaped out on that 32GB internal memory. An external HDD will basically be required very soon.

Hopefully we'll get another hw version with an internal hdd.

This is the sort of post that appears when you have no idea about the hardware you're talking about.

Extra storage is via Micro SD.

At least a bigger Flash storage. My iPhone has 256GB ffs

Sorry. Autocorrect.

Could you imagine if Nintendo denied it though?

GAF would complain about Nintendo NOT getting it and blame Nintendo. And As WB would never tell us the real reason it weren't coming to Switch...everyone would feel it's Nintendo's fault.

At this point if they're going to cheap it out this bad might as well do away with the card entirely and ship it in a box with a download code?

I don't think that would upset anyone, if it was clear what you were buying.

Yes the box has "Internet required" written on it, but it definitely isn't obvious or common practice...

I'd be interested how this will be handled with larger games (if they come to switch).

If some pubs aren't willing to eat the cost on a 20GB game i wonder how current gen AAA games are handled.

For example Fifa 17 is 44GB on PS4
We know some version of Fifa is coming to Switch

Will this be a lower quality port (potentially with last gen assets?), is EA gonna pull a WB and require you to download parts of the game or are they gonna use some magical compression?

Has anyone 100% confirmed this? Actually got the game and seen if it can be played from the cart? Is it possible it does play from the cart? Right now it seems this is all based on a box photo?

Unlikely to not be true, just wondering if there is a source.

For sure. I actually sort of feel uncomfortable about having a cart that is useless by itself. But download only? Whatever I guess.

Where are you fitting an HDD?

Also, the less moving parts the better. An HDD being moved around like that? Recipe for disaster.
If we were to go for absurd, masturbatory fantasies it'd be amazing to see a huge m.2 SSD in there. But that's probably still bull it up (though why not go with a huge display while we're having insane fantasies anyway?)

I don`t think anyone actually tested this, but it`s very obvious.

What do you mean? The game on Wii U was 20gb whereas this one is 7, and it says internet required right on the cover.

My 256GB iPhone 7 cost me nearly $1000. My Switch was $299.

And even if the Swich came with 256GB memory, this practice of putting a fraction of the game on the cart is garbage.

Phone producers charge a hefty premium for more storage, far above manufacturing/purchasing costs.

Yea, a lot of people keep forgetting that the cost of the phone is subsidized by a contract usually. You go buy an unlocked phone with 256GB, it'll cost you far, far more

Yeah, I think I am more likely to cancel my pre-order. I still wanna play this game so badly, but WB isn't doing any favour attracting me.

Goddamn it

Nintendo needs to stop with stupid ass digital prices must be same as retail prices policy.
Wasn't this a statement made by an NoE rep, so we don't really know if this policy applies to other regions, but I'm sure someone will bring up…

Puyo Puyo Tetris.
…Which costs the same on both the eShop and in retail in Europe. The whole 'add a keyring' theory doesn't apply here.

For everyone talking about the Switch internal storage, that really isn't the problem here. The actual problem is that you are buying a physical retail game which appears to have all the disadvantages of a digital version (requires large download, takes up space on your storage, will not be preserved if servers go down eventually), without any of the benefits (can be launched without a card). It's stupid as hell.
