The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I'm on my way to see some sort of scientist but having a real hard time trying to get there, i'm running trough some sort a valley and it starts that blood moon mechanic for the first time.

Should i go do some shrines first or what's up? i only have like 1 extra hearth atm

In my experience it's all about armour. Get the
Soldier's helm
from
Hateno
then go to
2-3 fairies for them to upgrade your armour
. In the meantime you may need to use stealth and avoidance tactics.

Once you have strong armour you will be surprised at how some attacks do much much less damage.

Alright, explored the whole map.

114 shrines
227 korok seeds
37
/42 shrine quests
67
/76 side quests

Might just look up a guide to find the missing stuff tbh. Feeling ready to finish up.

You meet, and have probably already met, an NPC who mentions traveling north to see their grandfather.

Yes of course. Hmm, so that's the lead?

On another note, on the Ruta Quest:
That Lynel you have to fight for shock arrows is the first Lynel I fought (I encountered another while exploring but I ran away from it),
are they supposed to be so ridiculously hard? Because it's making me believe I'm in no way ready to continue down this path. It took me 3 of my most decent weapons, almost all my food and 2 fairies to take it down. A single hit took off over half my health at 11 hearts. Even perfect dodging him several times in a row barely dented his health (my 2hs have around 35+ to 50 attack) and he only needed to hit back once to put me on the ropes. I feel like I'm missing something.

Just killed some
ice elemental
guy with a boss bar. I assume even those respawn.

I need to cook some food FAST after this trek lol

That's also the weakest variant :P.

It's so crazy I see people here mentioning Bears and Stalnox'es... I have been playing for 80+ hours and haven't run into them at all!
Same.

Still seeing new shit this far in is great. Just did a long shrine in Goron region and the solution for the last bit before the spirit orb made me smile. Such a simple yet beautiful solution that took me like 5-10 minutes to work out.

Love this game. Possibly my GOAT.

Guys, is there anything even remotely resembling a breadcrumb quest or a hint or nudge towards
the Master Sword
? Or am I supposed to stumble upon it on my own while exploring? If the former question is a yes then how am I supposed to encounter it?

I stumbled upon it myself, but you find out where it is by
a memory video

This is my favorite outfit in the game. Everything about the Hylian set is dope. The sand boots however takes the outfit to another level. Looks adventurous af.

LBR3voZ.gif
I like this set too. The tunic is great but I especially love the hood. So bad ass. Wish it had a set bonus. I'm still going to max it out.

I encourage people to talk to NPCs twice, or even three times. Some NPC have hilarious variants of their dialogue, like the ones in Gerudo.

More direct example in
Tarrey
Town: Stand on a table and talk to the seller and they will have multiple lines of disapproval.

You are specificalñy told not to fight it, just collect the arrows it drops when it walks around

I didn't fight it because I thought it was the objective, I had already picked up the arrows. I fought it because it was there. Nobody told me not to fight it, just that there was no guarantee I'd not die if I did.

In any case, at some point I'm going to have to be able to take these things on, it just blew my mind how far from that point I apparently am.

And all towers aquired

Edit: ffs missed the
bloodmoon shrine
by like 10 seconds, I even saw the platform glowing. Fuck!

THREE HEARTS CHALLENGE IS DONE!!! TAKE THAT, GANON!!!!!
Ahem...
Man, that final battle was difficult. But I farmed a bunch of powerful bows in Hyrule Castle and the entire
boss rush
was just me spamming arrows and parrying.
Thunderblight Ganon
was the toughest of them all. He was pretty easy in my normal playthrough but I was ill-equipped to fight him here and I ended up consuming most of my healing items while facing him.

I now have beaten the game three times: normal run, naked run and three hearts run. I guess it's time for me to take a break but I just can't stop playing... I think this game is all right.

I got so lucky with this. A blood moon night happened the same day I found the shrine.

It was one of my favourite moments of the game, using the fast travel mechanic as a way to solve a puzzle.

Is the Activity Log that unlocks after having the Switch for a week precise, or is it vague? Would very much like to keep track of how long I've played this for.

Haven't posted (or played tbh) in a bit because of how busy I've been moving and starting a new job, but I'd like to share my progress:

- Switch says playtime is 100 hours or more (what does "or more" mean?)

- Cleared two divine beasts (Vah Ruta and Vah Rudania)

- Pretty much just trying to clear the map as much as I can, yes including Korok Seeds because I find them fun to collect

- Found the
Giant Horse
with my friend and freaked the fuck out; named it
Yhorm

- Stalked
Farosh
to get two pieces of its horn to upgrade the Champion's Tunic; the
dragon spirits
are some of the coolest things in this game

- Approaching
Gerudo Town
and will likely complete this area's map to the best of my ability before moving on

After having played this with another person constantly and now having to play alone, I can say for sure that it's much more fun to play through with a partner (though I think the same is true of pretty much any game for me). I miss being able to bounce puzzle solution ideas off of my friend and also just watch him play and appreciate details I might miss if I were wrapped up in gameplay.

This game is really terrific. I'm starting to get pretty comfortable in the mechanics, systems, and world, but there's always something around the corner that makes exploration a delight in itself.

Also, since I won't be able to buy a TV for a couple months, I'm appreciating the Switch more than ever. Being able to enjoy this title without a TV is really great.

I went back to Impa after getting my first memory and she showed me the places I have to go on my map. But when I left, the locations are gone. Do I have to go back to impa to get them to show up, or are they gone now?

it unlocks after 10 days and it increases in 5 hour increments: 10hrs -> 15hrs ->20hrs etc etc

not that precise but ok enough I guess

You should totally do a samurai run. (Bows and two handed weapons only, no shields.)

It means that is more than 100, but less than 105.

You can only have one active quest at a time, go to the menu and select it again if you want the markers to show up again.

Just had an insane- ah ha moment.

At
Goron Mountain
there's the
tracks all over

Figured I'd use magnesis to attach a cart and then a bomb to propel me.

Voila it actually worked. I was looking all over for some sort of contraption to get the
trolley
to actually move.

This game gets better and better and better- using only, will this, can I, and then holy shit, it actually worked.

One note and one question:

First, I noticed this morning that I can see stars at night much better in portable mode than I can in docked mode, even though I would say the overall image quality is better in docked mode. Strange phenomenon- maybe because many stars are exactly one pixel, and the upscaling from 900p to 1080p fudges them out? Or maybe it's just my TV?

Second, for some reason I can't seem to use the shield reliably. Maybe 75% of the time when I hit ZL I raise the shield, but 25% I just go into a different stance and get nailed. Any suggestions?

So, beyond just getting the Sheikah Slate key items right at the start, how do you guys feel about them as a replacement of the especialized dungeon items?

One the one hand, they serve a more general purpose by shaping the environment, but I feel they end up being restricting by not going far enough. Magnesis probably stands as the best utilized by having you push and pull objects, use weights and dig objects. Stasis is either freeze or to shoot objects and there's rarely any practical use in the overworld. It's a cool way to expand the physics system but it falls shorts in so many way. Cryonis is my least favorite since there's barely any interesting applications. It makes bodies of water completely pointless since you can just cross over them by slowly raising pillars. This one is grossly undercooked and makes the rest look even worse due to their limited numbers. Obviously, Bows are still used extensively as usual, although ice and shock arrows are pretty much missing in action, with bomb arrows seeing barely a peep. Boomerangs are also never used in an interesting manner which is a shame and korok leaves serve no real purpose due to cryonis easily replacing its function.

I'm torn, since on the one hand, I greatly appreciate slimming down our equipment to just essentials. Twilight Princess was ridiculous, but Wind Waker stands as having a fantastic set of items that are all multi purpose and used in interesting ways, and while this game has most of those items, they have to completely design around them. Climbing anywhere, the design ethos of this game is great and allows for fun 360 degree freedom but I was excited to the idea of having to cross logs as bridges by bringing them down, cross rivers through rafts, have horses jump fences or other smart path creation is completely ignored due to how strong the paragliding and how strong climbing is.

you can open the big doors in Hebra if that's what you're talking about?
Ah! Great news! That's more like it!

remember that if you have a spear, claymore or a bow out, you won't raise your shield.

Maybe its because you're holding a two-handed weapon? In that case, just hit the cancel / run button and you'll raise your shield.

You should totally do a samurai run. (Bows and two handed weapons only, no shields.)

Lol, thank you for ruining my life!

I freaked out when I discovered this one too.

Also worth noting it's not having the Switch for 10 days, but for the first 10 days after starting a game it will choose to show "First played X days ago." instead.

Hmm, cheers.

Any good apps that do it better, even if it means activating and deactivating it every time I play?
The parental control app will let you see total play time per day, but not good totals.

Now I'm curious how a Bow only run would work.

Sad you can't buy weapons since I'd go for full boomerangs as well.

So it's supposed to happen after the Divine Beasts? Because I've been avoiding them while exploring the world but a wee bit into
the Ruta quest
and so far no mention of it. An NPC at a stable did give me a quest to show up with it. And I kinda know where it is but I would like to know how it fits in the story.
You don't need to have any Divine Beasts first to
get the master sword
. There is a requirement which you're told about once you locate it.

I'm an idiot. After ~90 hours I just now realized that the 3 Apple trees in a row you see occasionally in the world are Korok puzzles.

I honestly thought they were just a way to landmark otherwise nondescript areas of the map.

Now that I have an abundance of shields, Hebra has become my favorite region. Shieldboarding is so much fun.

Glide > board > glide > shoot > glide is thrilling.

I was actually going to ask this too. Will there be a pretty clear way to get this item? I've just kinda been exploring at my own pace, but I just want to be reassured that I won't miss my chance to get it haha
