NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

Emil is the mcguffin of self despair. He will suffer in some form forever.

BTW what is the timeline post nier?

Gestalt and replicants all die. Data was sent to the moon for storage. Aliens come. Emil fights with the androids against them?

Pretty much, although I think the data was sent at some indeterminate time by the androids once they started fighting the war. I think until then it was just sitting around on the Earth until they shot it up there for protection.

Just finished Ending E, and gladly gave up my save file at the end. Wow. Even though my save file is no more, I will always remember this moment. So much emotions filling up, I need time to digest all of this.

So all of the machine lifeform bosses are named after actual philosophers and thinkers, yes? From Hegel to Ro-Shi? That was neat.

I thought it was funny that the pope machine was named Kierkegaard.

Do you still get to view the final scene with the pods rebuilding everyone if you don't delete your data after clearing the bullet hell scene?

Also, does the question to begin ending E happen during the credits of either C or D depending on which one was played second? I read somewhere that I THINK means the only reason the wiki's list "play 3 times" is so that you can get the letter credit for the second ending on your save file. is this true?

I went full asshole and sold the Children's Cores I was keeping in order to have enough money to buy all the trophies I didn't earn.

Honestly, I don't feel like collecting everything for the 2nd Emil Boss fight though... That's a bop. I kinda wanna just delete my save file, and help out someone in need already. As for sidequests and shit, I probably should save the ones I didn't do for a future playthrough.

After splitting himself 900 million times, I'm afraid there is no "original" Emil anymore.

But you use two Emils as bracers, and one Emil as a helmet, and there are the big Emils in the desert, so there probably are others laying around.

Okay, that's what I thought too since the evidence points there to being more of them out there... so what about Devola/Popola units? Were they the last of their kind? Can't remember if the text novel bit actually elaborated on if they were the last ones (I seem to recall it saying that they ceased production of their model after the monumental fuck up of the ones that failed their task in stopping Nier, Emil & Kaine and let the world get ruined). Just wonder if anymore are out there wandering around trying to survive...wouldn't mind a spin off with them to be honest, that's all.

I think it's ambiguous. They don't directly say one or way or the other whether they're the last, but the models were simply halted in construction and left to wander guiltily not destroyed so I wouldn't be surprised if there were still D&P couples out there, feeling sad all the time, finding somewhere to die, having mad threesomes with handsome and red-haired GAF posters.

I got the impression that the other gestalt programs were headed by other types of androids, and that the D&P set were only used at two locations before being discontinued, or if there were other twin sets, that only two of them were actually Devola and Popula models (They shouldered the blame from the other androids because they looked like the twins that fucked it up, iirc)

I was thinking about it, and it seems super obvious when I type it out, but I think the Emil Head weapon story's future isn't as ambiguous as some people think.

The gravity-manipulating power that it mentions is something that's attributed to both the machines and the logic virus, and as a result, I think that its reemergence is a clear indicator that the genocidal pseudo-Watcher influence has manifested once again. There's no hope of there not being another war.

I beat the second secret Emil boss fight yesterday. As someone that played through the first Nier... Fuck. Poor Emil.

Just remember: you chose to do that. There was no narrative or character impetus, and barely any reward to be had!

Guys, I ran into a bit of an issue. I finished all endings A to E, and when I go to Chapter Select to finish Emil's Lunar Tears quest, I can't seem to select it at all. It doesn't show up on my completed quests (most likely because I never actually finished it...) and when I go to look for Emil post-forest, he lets me buy stuff but doesn't give me the quest again.

How can I get him to give me the quest again?

The quest starts at the Lunar Tear in the shopping mall. You might have to encounter Emiltruck a few separate times first, but I'm not sure.

You aren't selecting a chapter later in the game are you? They disappear after a certain point IIRC.

I like how despite Ending E concluding on an upbeat and optimistic note, Taro still had to throw in his classic "Oh so you REALLY want that 100% completion huh?" gimmick with the second Emil fight.

I'm selecting the chapter right after the shopping mall, the first time Truck Emil appears. Should I just do the story up until that point...?

Ahahahahaha shit I can't believe the thing that almost got me to cry was Emil shouting Kainé's name.
For how much I loved this game and every single new character it introduced it's almost embarassing how the things I enjoyed the most were the OG Nier's callbacks.

Be playing as 9B or 2S, Emil's shop needs to active. Stop him, get dialogue. Go to shopping centre, and get near flower.

That should be enough as far as I know. Using chapter select resets progress along emil's storyline, with the caveat that named quests triggered along the way never reoccur on completion.

Managed to do it. Talked to Emil twice, once after finding him, teleported, came back and talked again, then the quest marker showed up.

You know when I started C I thought A2 was gonna be the Edgelord of the two

Same, that was a nice subversion of expectations. A2 just likes to keep things simple, I can respect that. I like when Pod 042 at the end is trying to explain his idea how to beat the Red Girls and she's just like jeezus just tell me what you want me to do already haha.

It was very awkward trying to explain to my therapist today how much a video game about robots has been affecting me lately lol

I think he kinda got it though when I told him how much it was about existentialism and finding your place and feeling lost.

Tell me you told your therapist to play it.

I feel bad for Emil. I'm actually glad i got the chance to end his life. Poor kid suffer for a very long time. Then you realize there's another emil out there suffering the same fate...

Watched all the joke endings on Youtube in order to see the ones I missed.

Highlights:

Ending I: Damn 2B, you just gonna keep 9S waiting like that?
Ending K: Dying to a (delicious) mackerel will never not be funny
Ending L: Damn, she rather be hunted down by both YoRHA assassins and machines than continue to live a life where she's forced to kill 9S...
Ending N: Killed everyone in the machine village, and ya go crazy
Ending O: Being selfish ain't cool
Ending Q: Lmao, a world where 9S wasn't pressed over 2B would be interesting...

Ending Y... The feels.

I remember how excited I was during route C when 042 and 153 dropped the "this unit" and such for "I" and "we". Saw it again now and still get giddy.

So uh, is it implied that the amusement park robots turning into zombies and pascal's village turning on each other is because the network machine lifeforms infected them with the logic virus too?

Why though is what I'm wondering.

I guess they wanted to get rid of everything not tied to their network after the tower emerges?

Because N2 hates fun.

I don't remember where it actually says this, but the going theory is that all of the machines were ultimately still tied to the network. N2 just pretended to let them loose because SCIENCE.

I just saw a video that made me realise if you do ending e off of ending c that you miss the post credits scene of 2b's sword. Is there a similar post credits scrne for ending d? I cant find any ending d videos on youtube that dont also include ending e...

Gotta say some of the sidequests do add more context for some scenes in the game.

Seeing the slide I built for the robot children after I came back, and then seeing what pascal was selling, damn near broke my heart. :''''''(
