SEGA teases Bayonetta + Steam, countdown to April 11

Why do we assume we know what deal was going on between Sega and Nintendo? It's still a Sega IP, no? We don't know under what conditions they let Nintendo use it.
we do, the relationship has been explained multiple times by platinum... using kamiya's words 'while you are there you might as well. ask for zelda and Mario too'
that's the degree of ownership Nintendo has over the game.
being a Sega ip doesn't mean much.. it's not like Sony has any power over games about the spiderman franchise, despite owning it.. they just license the rights to the up to whoever is going to develop it.

As someone who never played Bayo 1, it was amusing to see the outrage from fans about Bayo 2 being a Wii U exclusive. I can't help but laugh that outrage is being re ignited now with the speculation of Bayo 1 possibly being released on PC.

I always wanted to play Bayo 1. I only had a PS3 last gen and I absolutely refused to play that broken port. Platinum games have a good track record for PC so I'm eager to see what the countdown actually is.

The Goldeneye deal especially makes no sense, they've never done anything with it. Sucks they've got it locked down wasting away.

I don't know why Nintendo even entertained the deal in the first place. GE007 probably would have done pretty well on VC, but you put that and what MS and Rare were working on with the 360 remake side-by-side, and I don't even know why you would spend more than a second debating on which one to get. It was a no-win situation for them, so it's hard to blame them for turning it into a no-win situation for everyone in the end.

Sony does not own Spiderman. They only own the film rights. Not even the video game rights.

While it is almost sure Bayonetta 2 will never be released on PC, I hope Nintendo sees the light and port the game to the Switch. Now that would be superb and an excellent move from Nintendo.

If Bayonetta 1 gets a port in PC and Switch, I will buy them both without any regret.

First, I'm not familiar with copyright law, so forgive my ignorance, but can you link me to a place that specifies that the first entity listed holds the right?

Second even if Nintendo owns the game, Sega still owns the IP, which I'd think mean Nintendo couldn't do much with the game without Sega's approval, so I'm sure it's in both parties interest to reach some agreement. Not that I'm saying I believe this will happen, but I don't think it's quite as unlikely as some are making it to be.

It's not law, it's just the conventional practice to the best of my knowledge. Compare the copyright on B2 to that on the original releases of Lego City Undercover or Sonic Lost World.

For a non-Nintendo example, compare the copyright for Gears of War 3 (before MS bought the IP from Epic) to GoW 4.

This countdown is almost definitely for Bayonetta 1 PC and nothing else.

Bayo 2 is never coming to a non-Nintendo platform. Nintendo literally co-published it. It's been like three years, just accept it.

and that's the point
they own the rights for the movies, and those game are made based on those movies, but that doesn't give them any ownership or decisional power on the games.
the same way, sega owns the bayonetta franchise and can decide to license it to nintendo, but they don't have any ownership over the games nintendo made using such license.

This situation with bayonetta 2 is kinda like crash and spyro 1-3. Sony owns those games but not the IP. Hence these will never release on anything else unless Sony consigns them.

It may be possible that Sega and Nintendo sign off on a deal for a port but that seems highly unlikely.

Nintendo has no reason to let go of the rights to Bayonetta 2. Remember, Sega had no plans for Bayonetta until Nintendo stepped in and funded the game themselves and assisted with development. There's just no way Nintendo lets that on anything other than a Nintendo platform. The developers themselves have stated this numerous times.

I thought Bayonetta 2 was shopped around and nobody bit except Nintendo?

Which is why this thread is a sad repeat of all the other Bayonetta threads. Everyone else turned it down and now all of a sudden nintendo stole it.

Some of the literal best action games ever came out on the Wii U in W101 and Bayo 2, and these "fans"still didn't want it.

Imagine if the image changes in the next few days to Vanquish and Anarchy Reigns though ;)

Sony doesn't own those games at all though, as far as I know.
Another good example is Nintendo "owning" Project Zero V, while KT owns the Zero IP.

I wanted them but not enough to by a third console for.
I for one would love to see Bayo 2 on another console, since Microsoft continue to have Minecraft on rival systems and had Viva Piñata and Blue Dragon on DS, I'm not gonna rush out and bet money on it happening but I have some hope

How many non Nintendo consoles have a Mario or Zelda game. Those are the odds right now.

i'm currently playing devil may cry 4 se on pc. it's not bad but not as great as bayonetta. i never played dmc4 before tho. maybe when my dmc4 skill is developed and understand dmc4 enough i'll start to appreciate it more. i rather play bayonetta than dmc4 atm. would buy and play bayonetta on steam.

I knew this would re-ignite the Bayonetta 2 "confusion". It's cool that Bayo 1 is gonna be on PC though. I hope the people that care enough to ask for Bayonetta on PC care enough to buy it too.

Oh I know, I mean Bayo isn't Mario or Zelda and they could change the game to remove the Nintendo references but it probably won't ever happen
No, Nintendo helped design and code the game. Sega would have to fund a brand new game devoid of anything similar to Bayo 2.

They would need to completely remake the game since Nintendo owns the code of Bayonetta 2.

I did not know that. It's a different situation than with Minecraft of course but I'm still gonna be hopeful.
It might be stupid but crazy things happen in the gaming industry.

I would love for it to come to pc as I own every platinum game for ps3, the wii games and on PC, but folks need to stop with the port begging. Why would nintendo gut future sales of whatever they do with the bayo amiibo and franchise if people know they can just wait for it to appear on PC? It's why they're not porting old games to mobile. You go to them for the good stuff.

We got Sonic World with the Nintendo content removed, couldn't we get Bayonetta 2 without the Nintendo costumes or is there much more than that on the game?
The game known as Sonic Lost World doesn't belong to Nintendo
The game known as Bayonetta 2 belongs to Nintendo

Is this a difficult concept

Nintendo did not co-publish Sonic Lost World. Nintendo co-published Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo did not co-publish Sonic Lost World. Nintendo co-published Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo did publish the original Wii U release of Lego City Undercover, so that's not actually the pertinent distinction here; rather, it's that they appear to own the copyright to the game itself, whereas they had no copyright to LCU or SLW beyond the portions featuring Nintendo-created IP.

I'm very excited for (potential) Bayonetta 1 on PC and I am grateful that even just the first one is (possibly) hitting my platform of choice! Hooray!

They own the rights to the game that they're paying for the development and publishing of, though.

Yup, this is usually the case for licensed games, though there are some exceptions (Square Enix appears to have no copyright to the Kingdom Hearts franchise beyond the cameos from other SE IP).

Anarchy Reigns needs to be ported and have steamworks, the game deserves a second chance. Online community would definitely be there.

But the online code for Anarchy Reigns was atrocious.

Hope its true, tried it on ps3 and the performance is awful, PC version would rock.
It's not "awful". The falling scene at the beginning might be the worst in the game, but then it's fine.
ZoE2 HD pre-patch is proper awful, Bayonetta is alright.

But the online code for Anarchy Reigns was atrocious.

But imagine if it wasn't.

When did that happen, again?

Banjo-Kazooie is one example. Lego City is an example of them selling the publishing rights. And Terra Battle even is an example of a Nintendo IP (The Last Story) appearing in a non-Nintendo game.

Things can happen when money is involved or when Nintendo shows a lot of good will.
