I assume if there's any importance to this event is that these are attacks on Syrian government forces/resources as opposed to ISIS/ISIL.

That's precisely why it's important.

I'd love to give this the benefit of the doubt, that it was a proportional response. But Trump has given us no cause to think he's capable of such things. And if he deferred entirely to his generals without weighing the decisions himself...that's terrifying.
