Syria has risen.

Assad has fallen.
This.

How many times have we gone through this song and dance before? Westerners get happy thinking a despot has been overthrow, only to realize he was the one holding far worse Islamist forces at bay.
Remind me of those "many times".
Or of The Evil West that wants to LGBGQჭღრპღრ+ russki popas having anything to do with overthrowing the Syrian dictator.

Putler like pieces of shit cannot be ousted using peaceful protests.
Civil wars have devastating side effects.
Somehow it is "The Westerners" fault and not the dictator fuck's.

I don't know a ton about the implications. Is there a chance ISIS could make a return and retake control of the region given there's a power vacuum now? I don't want them to trade one oppressive regime for another. I want them to have a real actual future the Syrian people deserve.

ISIS could make a return. They exist in the deserts and have been routinely culled by the US, SDF presence but there’s a few ways they could grow if the rebels don’t achieve a stable post-Assad regime.

Turkey clearly doesn’t want that given that everybody runs to their country as refugees so they’ll likely push for a more stable Syria for all groups but the Kurds. It’s Turkey’s ballgame now.

The rebels, many of whom are trained, armed, and backed by Turkey have retaken Syria. How exactly is this about the US?

In December 2024, the United States played a significant role in the events leading to the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime. While the U.S. did not engage in direct military intervention against Assad's government, its actions and policies contributed to the regime's collapse.

**Support for Opposition Forces:**
The U.S. provided support to various opposition groups in Syria, including the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). This support included training, equipment, and intelligence, which bolstered the capabilities of these groups in their fight against both ISIS and, indirectly, the Assad regime.

**Targeting ISIS Strongholds:**
In December 2024, U.S. forces conducted precision airstrikes against ISIS targets in Syria. President Joe Biden affirmed the continued U.S. military presence to prevent an ISIS resurgence, stating, "We're clear-eyed about the fact that ISIS will try and take advantage of any vacuum to reestablish its credibility, and create a safe haven. We will not let that happen."

**Diplomatic Pressure and Sanctions:**
The U.S. maintained diplomatic pressure on Assad's allies, notably Russia and Iran, through sanctions and international isolation. This strategy aimed to weaken the support network sustaining Assad's regime, contributing to its eventual downfall.

**Humanitarian Assistance:**
The U.S. provided humanitarian aid to Syrian civilians affected by the conflict, supporting efforts to stabilize regions liberated from ISIS and other extremist groups. This assistance helped undermine the Assad regime's narrative and legitimacy.

**Monitoring Chemical Weapons:**
Following the regime's collapse, the U.S. focused on securing chemical weapons that had been under Assad's control to prevent their proliferation and use by non-state actors.

In summary, the U.S. contributed to the fall of Assad's regime through a combination of supporting opposition forces, targeting extremist groups, applying diplomatic pressure, providing humanitarian aid, and securing dangerous weapons. These efforts collectively weakened the regime's hold on power, leading to its eventual collapse in December 2024.

Besides that they also played a significant role since 2011 but this is recent.

ChatGPT nonsense.

The rebels were chiefly HTS and SNA forces and not the SDF. The rest are not directly tied with the current overthrow of Assad and are specious examples that could also be attributed to other countries.

Humanitarian assistance and monitoring chemical weapons didn’t send Assad and his cowardly Russian or Iranian allies packing.

Next time you are telling me that the whole middle east was completely destabilised by themselves without any foreign involvement 🤣. Anyway it's done so we just can wait to have the next crysis in Europe:).

There are many foreign actors in Syria over the past decade but the overthrow of Assad is clearly a Turkish backed initiative. The issue is singling out the US as if they were to blame for recent events.

The idea that the US or the West is to blame for Assad’s overthrow or that this will lead to a European crisis is Russian backed propaganda floating around now that their cowardly troops ran away like clowns. Lots of talk about this instead of the clear Russian and Iranian failures to bolster SAA forces, which was the biggest surprise of the whole affair given the success of the SAA and the Tiger forces previously.

You're right—singling out the USA for its role in Syria alone might not paint the full picture. It's more about the broader frustration that, for the past 20 years, the EU has consistently shouldered the burden of providing humanitarian assistance for conflicts in that region. Some of these wars saw direct involvement from certain players, while others were less overt, with details only coming to light through whistleblowers years later.

Anyway nothing will change. There is no key decision maker inside the eu for any of these conflicts. It's all about 3 maybe four countries basically:).

Skeptical about this one. They were linked with Al Qaeda. Only time will tell if this will be better for Syria.

These are the "moderate rebels" Obama loved so much, I bet dollars to donuts we are fighting them in 5 years.

The world cannot handle America as the lone superpower for too much longer, we are an agent of chaos and spread misery and destruction everywhere, this has to end.

The EU is a vassal state of the US and part of that deal is cleaning up the messes and eating the shit when told to do so. Same reason why energy prices are so crazy high there.

That building wasn't set on fire by the civilian population, but bombed by Israel. Israel has been bombing dozens of Syrian military and government facilities. It has also captured parts of Syria next to the Golan Heights that had been designated a buffer zone between both countries.

Reminds me of Afghanistan where the mainstream media was all about how Taliban 2.0 was a new and progressive Taliban where everybody would be happy and free.
