I do see this as a measured response - at least what we know of so far.

But without a longer term strategy I don't see how it has much of a point to it.

I'm completely ok with this. Taking in refugees doesn't solve the problem for those who didn't leave.

There are other ways to solve civil wars and conflict than war and bombing.

Like humanitarian aid or stoop supporting Saudi Arabia with weapons or taking in refugees

Didn't you learn nothing from Iraq, Afghanistan, or Libya?

In a 36th round of airstrikes on 31 October, the United States carried out four airstrikes in and around Kobanî,

Between 29 November and 1 December, the United States carried out a 51st round of airstrikes with 27 airstrikes in and around Kobanî

On 31 December, the United States and coalition partners carried out a 69th round of airstrikes with seven airstrikes in and around Kobanî and near Al-Hasakah

How is this significantly different from what Obama has been doing?

Respond how? Syria really can't do anything. The worse they could do is order Hezbollah to go full tilt on Israel.

The only wild card is if Russians got killed, and it looks like steps were taken to avoid that.

If they are going down, they are not just going to sit there and be taken out. They will fight back.

I think it's a pretty good strategy to just wipe out their air power. Legit I would even send in fighters and dogfight these fuckers.

don't really see the problem with bombing the shit out of an airbase used to drop chemical weapons on civilians.

website updated with statement

Syrian armed rebels welcomed the strike. Ahrar Al Sham, tan opposition group backed by gulf states responded: "The armed opposition welcomes any U.S. intervention through surgical strikes that would deter the Assad regime capabilities to kill civilians and shorten the suffering of our people."

Wow, one attack and people are willing to give up on the Trump-Russia ties. No Russian assets were targeted. Hell tinfoil hat me, but I wouldn't doubt that Russia gave the go ahead to Trump just for that reason. They lose pretty much nothing in this.

Assad wouldn't have launched an attack to "test" Hillary to begin with

I doubt they gave much thought at the US response to be honest.

If he attacked the airfield where the planes carrying the chemical weapons took off from, I think that's an appropriate action. Let's hope Syria doesn't further agitate with more chemical weapons

exactly. I feel like some people just dont want to agree with trump about anything so theyd rationalize letting assad gas children to not have to be on the same side as trump about anything

If the airport base has the chemical weapons what happens when the missiles hit them? Can the gas then spread and kill civilians?

There's a whole wiki page of US missile strikes and bombings in Syria since 2014. That in and of itself is really not that big a deal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-led_intervention_in_Syria

I assume if there's any importance to this event is that these are attacks on Syrian government forces/resources as opposed to ISIS/ISIL.

That's precisely why it's important.

I'd love to give this the benefit of the doubt, that it was a proportional response. But Trump has given us no cause to think he's capable of such things. And if he deferred entirely to his generals without weighing the decisions himself...that's terrifying.

Using chemical weapons should have consequences. Ideally these missiles only hit Syrian military targets.

What are the consequences of attacking an airfield of a soveign nation? What are the consequences to the civilians that are now going to be targeted by Assad? Oh wait you didn't think about anything as much as turnip did.

Supposedly Trump is about to make a statement FROM MAR A LAGO.

I hope the press conference looks like this

I don't think most people are opposing this just because it's Trump, but because we are yet again attacking a country in the Middle East. We don't want another war, regardless.

Even his racist ass followers are saying this. He's attacking another country in the middle east.

After doing a complete 180 in a matter of 24 hours!

Another reminder that striking their airfields like this is exactly what HRC wanted to do.

I hate Trump and have no confidence in him but this isn't starting WW3 on it's own.

sources say Russia was told ahead of time

Yeah, I just saw that. I wonder how far ahead of time Russia was told?

And man, this orange-faced bastard hasn't cared about Syrian refugees heading west to get out of there pretty much ever, right? Why would he all of a sudden care that some of them were gassed?

The ONLY reason Lybia isn't like Syria right now is because NATO and the UN took action. I'm sure it's not pretty, but it's a fuck load better than Syria.

But don't vote for Hillary cause she's a warmonger.

I know she would have done the same, but these were things that his supporters were on about forever like it's something that would never happen if he was in office.
