So if any Russians are caught in the crossfire, what's the over/under on WW3 vs Putin just dropping the pee tape?

If Putin wants to work with Trump, he'd let it slide just like he did when Turkey shot down a Russian jet and he responded by holding joint military drills with Turkey.

I 100% would not put it past Trump to be doing this just to try and move attention away from the fact that his crooked administration is falling apart week by week.

as much as I dislike Trump, he is allowed to change his position on subjects - especially ones as important as these - as the situation dictates. I would never hold the Commander in Chief under the weight of a three year old tweet he made when he was a citizen.

Exactly... and to the people that are condemning this, did you watch the video of the government's chemical attack? Vile shit, that deserves consequences.

Oh fuck that. We should take out Assad. We talk all this shit about punching Nazis, yet here we have some legit nazi like actions by Assad that deserve a legit ass kicking. Fuck trump, but folks who oppose the actions he took mostly because it was he who took the action are straight clowns.
OK, what happens afterwards? My heart's with you but my mind is filled with nope.

If this was Hillary in office she would have done the same thing
I don't think you could sit there as the president, look at those pictures from that attack and do.............nothing.

You don't unsee stuff like that...

He hit airfields so the planes can't take off, I'm ok with that, when I first saw the thread I thought the worst and he was just throwing them around any old way.

Yeah that's a 70 million dollars worth of explosives but I mean come on....Gassing people, you don't go unpunished for gassing people, you guys want to talk about nazi level evil, thats Assad

You know what. I wouldnt' be as pissed if Trump wasn't denying refugee's from this same country.

Most likely we knew there weren't any Russian assets at this airbase ahead of time. Was just a courtesy call to the Russians so they didn't think the missiles might be hitting any of their shit.

Man, Putin's response to this is going to be really interesting.

Can they continue acting like Assad is an angel and any attempts to discredit him are fake news now that Trump's going all in like this?
I wouldn't be surprised if Putin allowed this just to keep pressure off Trump and to remind Assad to stay in line. I'm sure he doesn't like covering for him like he has had to

Pretty much this.

HRC may have tried to reach out to allies before responding, but this specific response is still the same one she's agreed with in the past.

This is actually maybe the only thing Trump has done that I agree with, but his real FP test is just now beginning.

I would also like to put in a word to remain calm and think of this in the context of the past several years. It's not like this is the first time we've bombed Syria.

How are these 70 missiles significantly different than the 12,192 from last year? Do the targets make the difference? The intent? How much does it really matter?

Bombing ISIS or AL-Qaeda who everyone hates vs bombing Assad (and possibly Russians since they are in Syria) who is Russia's ally is a big fucking difference.

It's Trump. That's why people are freaking out and doing a 180 just like Trump did with Syria. It's all partisan bullshit.

War

Holyfuck :(
No, 50 missles. If you think bombing Syria is war, we've been at war there for a few years now.

This really isn't as dramatic as everyone is making it out to be. Russia and Iran have been bombing the rebels for years now. They may bitch and moan, but aren't going to do shit.

I dont get the people that are being so anti-Trump that they are actually flip-flopping back to where republicans were a week ago just to oppose him. Arguing that we shouldnt mess with Assad

Im so confused

The problem is not that the US has taken action against Syria. As somebody who was for the initial intervention into Libya to save those people from being slaughtered by their local dictator, I'm not against the idea to promote a greater peace. Hillary had a term for it: smart power. For our words as a peace keeper to mean anything, at some point they have to not just be words.

However, we have learned from Libya (and Iraq before) how this shit can spiral out of control when the Before, the During, and the After are not planned to a T. And NOBODY should have any faith in this administration to handle this appropriately.

This is a really terrifying moment, and it's going to be politicized to hell and back. Meanwhile, Trump is at Mar-a-Lago.

People are letting their hatred of trump cloud their judgement.

A lot of embarrassing reactions in here.

Because it's Trump this time.

The amount of overreaction in this thread is hilarious.

He could gas more civilians.

the fact they're still trying to deny it gives you some idea of the severity of the claim. If they actually thought "oh let's respond by using our chemical weapons" they would leave the door wide fucking open for total destruction and it would be justified.

Well, if there is a pee pee tape, now would be the time for Putin to release it.

If there is no pee pee tape, Russia may have just kissed their love Triangle with Trump goodbye.

Tillerson already doubled-down on keeping the Russian sanctions because of Crimea, so that's off the table.

Trump may be looking at this the way he looked at Flynn - he outlived his usefulness, so now he's cutting all ties and burning all bridges.

Putin might not be happy about that though.
