Yup. Naval equivalent of "buzzing the tower" or something like that.

Wars have been started over far less. But most will not believe it could be possible... until it happens. If Russia fires off any rounds or buzzes our ships right after we just launched a strike in Syria then there will be an exchange.

They're never going to do that because Russia has no real naval power to challenge the US and neither would be a real winner in full scale conflict. It is just reminder "We too have ships with cruise missiles!".

this is the kind of shit people mean when they say there's no difference between republican and democrat foreign policy

This post is actually good and I agree with it. Seek medical attention. I think you might be having a stroke.

It's both politically idiotic and intrinsically stupid to be backing Trump ordering a mostly meaningless airstrike without preparation or multilateral discussion, upending everything we know about his announced military and foreign policy plans. Dem leadership is fucking this up.

Happy to say Brian Schatz made a statement against the strike, at least.

I hope so. I am just not underestimating what implications could arise from such a chaotic and unstable part of the world after launching missiles at an air base there. That would be foolish.

Top Democrats agree. Fuck everything. These guys are idiots, bought and paid to keep losing.

Think about what their little symbolic filibuster got them. Gorsuch. No Garland. Loss of power as minority.

Now they praise the attack. Not only bad on principle, it's bad politics!

When the fuck did Republicans agree with Obama??

They should be calling this an imppeachable abuse of power. Call out all gop senators who were hypocrites during obama regarding foreign policy and judge appointments.

This party needs to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt.

Does it bother you also that almost every major nation other than Russia has come out in support of this?

These things don't exist in a vacuum. The last thing I'm sure they want is the GOP spin machine brainwashing people into thinking that Democrats are the party that supports gassing children.

We never fully got away from the us-vs-them mentality of the Iraq war. "Either you support this strike or you support gassing babies. Sorry, we don't make the rules (we totally made those rules)."

I hate Trump as much as anyone else, but people acting like it's not OK to give him credit for something that should have been done years ago by another President and another Congress are biting off their nose to spite their own face.

Innocent people were killed in a chemical weapons attack. AGAIN.

Russia signed a deal in 2013 to prevent Syria from using Chemical weapons, which was supposed to de-escalate a potential military strike by Obama against the Syrian government.

Well, now in 2017...

1. Syria ignored that deal.
2. Russia either ignored that deal or was too incompetent to uphold their end of that deal.
3. Innocent people are dead.
4. Russia continues to defend Syria's actions and have even lied about the cause and source of the chemical weapon attack to cover for Assad's war crimes.

Fuck Russia and Fuck Syria.

Trump did something RIGHT for ONCE. It may be the last time he ever does something right. It may be a total accident he did something right. But he did do the right thing, despite it making him look hypocritical.

Assad needs to go and Russia needs to GTFO out Syria and Crimea.

Period.

triangulating what they think is a politically acceptable position on something with a clear moral answer is the entire problem with democrats and they need to stop

I agree with these goals.

Do you support a multi-decade war? Because if not, we already know from recent experience that unilateral military action is insufficient to achieve them.

Any military action that doesn't form part of a broader plan to accomplish those goals is dangerously wrong even if it's well-intended and popular.

This is all leaving aside the fact that Trump is not competent to take actions I would trust other presidents with.

2013 leaders in congress were warning action without their approval was an impeachable offense. Obama asks and they suddenly go ghost, in the meantime Russia cuts the deal that everyone sees as an out.

Lets not act like unilateral action should ever be praised outright when our own leaders are too scared to be tied to an actual decision. This isn't as clear cut as you make it out to be.

Trumps just the tip of the "King Chess Piece" anyway. American intelligence and military and all of those who advise Trump will really have called this shot. It's not just Trump sitting in an empty room scrolling news sites/Twitter and then deciding I'm releasing an airstrike.

The BBC article I posted about why the base was targetted explains US intelligence monitoring it in real time, the planes that took off from it, then the reports of civilians dying from a chemical attack in-line with the flight paths.

That's not Trump doing all of that, it's the collective of all the intelligence services. So really not much "credit" even needs to go to Trump, even although, sure, he's the President that had the final say. And the MSM make it all about Trump.

Surely Bolivia, it is completely unknown who used chemical weapons and requires a thorough and long investigation.

They also talked about how the US shouldn't have attacked without the green light from the UN. I can see that point. Even if it was unrealistic.

Russia cut a bullshit deal that did absolutely nothing to stem the war or atrocities in Syria.

Obama should have launched a strike then and there, with or without unilateral support, just as Trump has done.

Obama failed, as did Congress, by giving in to Russia's scheme.

And that is precisely why were are in this mess today.

we're in this mess today because the illegal unilateral war we prosecuted in iraq destabilized the region and led to the creation of ISIS

but ok sure yet another war will surely work out

Look at Kushner's face. Things have gotten very serious for this kid very quickly.

And Trump. He looks like he's trying desperately to understand something but knows he lost the battle to understand it a long time ago.

This shit is so insane, by the way.

I know my position on the 2013 decision but there's something people need to stop doing.

Every time a decision is made and the result is not favorable, people just ASSUME the alternative would have been better. There are plausible outcomes where not invading Iraq in 2003 ends up in a bad/worse outcome. There are plenty of plausible outcomes where Obama goes through in 2013 and it leads to outcomes that are just as bad, or worse than where we are now.

Stop thinking that just because the outcome you chose ended up in a bad outcome, that the alternative would have assuredly been any better.
