I dunno why people complain that this game runs like an ass? I mean i get 40+FPS all maxed out but AA which i run at 2xMSAA and still runs like a champ at 8k res...and that's all of a single GPU!

try getting a locked 60 at 480p on the fastest gpu/cpu money can buy then come tell us its well optimized. i also doubt your claims of 40 fps are accurate at 8k w/ 2xmsaa

I built my pc to play at highest res possible, not on 480p! Besides when gaming at higher res, such as 4k and higher more strain is put on the GPU and not CPU. These are the settings i'm using and they work just great on my rig.

Sub 60fps psssshhh

Tried, to no avail, to find the code which clamps the window size to the desktop size, but I give up. It hotsamples to the size of the desktop (how nice) but any window size larger than that is clamped to the desktop size. One would think that would be rather easy to find but it's sady not. DSR it is, which kind of sucks in this case, as 60FPS is out of the question with an i7 + 1070 @ 2880x1800... (and everything else maxed out)

He's losing a lot of FPS because he's also recording at the same time. Maybe this weekend i'll record a video using my external source camera and show it to you. But yeah i still stand behind what i said earlier that the game is optimized really well now! In the past not so much but i'm very happy the way it's running now!

edit: also he really needs to put "framerate smoothing ON" as that help tons. His stuttering would be eliminated.

hes also playing at a lower resolution with no msaa

Looks like the Mass Effect: Andromeda patch 1.05 breaks the Cinematic Tools, so hold off on updating if you still want to take shots.

do you really think overclocking his cpu/ram and having an ssd over a regular HD is going to impact his performance at 8k (25 to 35 fps range)

There is nothing to think about. I see what
kind of performance im getting on my rig. Only thing i wanna confirm after i get home after work is IF the FPS are the same what Dxtory is showing vs in-game FPS. My game is smooth as butter. None of his stutter.

Ok got home and played with some different settings for a few hours on two of my pc's! Mainly with framerate smoothing and maximum pre-rendered frames. I came upon something very interesting that both rig's experienced and only recovered when i completely reset Forza windows settings and windows store as well. Btw, had to restart both of them after resets, in order to get my FPS back, otherwise they were split in half! More on that a lil later but first this..

So on my old rig which is running Gtx 1080ti stock, I7-4790@ stock and 16 gigs of ddr4 1600 memory i get between 23-25FPS @8k, when i overclock both the cpu to 4.5 and ram to 2133 fps shoot up to 31-33 fps! Also worth saying here that even with 16 gigs of ram my game is stuttering.

My new pc is running SLI Gtx 1080ti's with hybrid kits (one is just collecting dust in this game) and +190 core clock and + 200 on memory, I7 6850k @4.7 ghz, 32 gigs of DDR4 3333 mem i'm getting 40fps steady with 378.92 drivers. So after all you do get extra fps when overclocked. Also no stutters at all, it seems like this game really likes super fast ram to work properly.

And now onto something that really confuses me in this game. When i turn framerate smoothing to off i get very bad stutters every few seconds, also if my maximum pre-rendered frames are set on anything other that 1, fps get halved. And only way to get them back is to reset windows store and the forza settings completely followed by a restart! Really wonder what's causing that? If anyone wants to give it a go with my settings here and try it out maybe it will fix the bad performance for them? And you can see that i do get 40 fps in the upper right with game's built in fps reader @8k with 2xMSAA. Still planning on doing a video this weekend at few different resolutions.

Sounds about right concerning the fps gains by overclocking. But come on, can you really say the game is well optimized when you run a 1080Ti - the fastest single GPU around and I7 6850k @4.7 ghz plus 32 gigs of RAM. Not everyone has the money or interest to buy a 1080Ti plus do overclocking to have a highly overclocked i7 and RAM. That's probably why people complain about the game. Is it really okay that one has to have to overclock to hell and back, have the most powerful GPU(s), SSDs, 32GB 3GHz++ RAM kit and whatever to have what one would call a smooth experience or "butter smooth".
As for running games at a low res, 480p for example will show you just how much the CPU/GPU bottlenecks or how badly the game suffers from optimization issues etc. And reflecting that, when you raise the resolution very high, in this case 8K, a lot of hardware bound bottlenecking and game optimization issues can go away almost completely.

But that Win store/game settings reset thing is very strange. Do you have any other Win store games that you could check if they suffer from the same issue? Are both of those rigs using the same driver set? If so that max pre-rendered frames bug could be a driver issue. Might wanna try out the most recent 381.65 drivers. Seems to contain some DX12 fixes which could help as well.

I have to get that game though, it looks so good and fun :P

How is the CEMU version doing?
Is it at Switch level yet or needs more work?
Cant wait to finally play it myself too!

Very playable but definitely not perfect yet. I get pretty consistent 20-25 fps out in open areas sometimes 30 so I have no issues exploring. Solid 30 in shrines. Frame pacing is not great and in towns it can drop to like 15 fps.
Still get a few visual glitches sometimes and crashes, saving a lot makes it not a big deal in this game.

The resolution boost is amazing. These screenshots didn't come out at 6k but the image was downampled from 6k to 1080p.

Not quite perfect but it's getting there pretty fast.

I have it locked at 82FPS at 1440p full maxed with 2xMSAA including Mountain Blizzard, only small drop is in the city which can hit 72fps at lowest but rest 95% of the game is locked at 82FPS so i can say game is fully locked at 70fps all around at 1440p

With Titan X Pascal aka 1080Ti

I think we're slowly losing the general intend of this thread, to be honest.

That's partly why myself and others don't bother posting anymore.

I don't know what lead to it happening - probably how famous the PC screenshot threads are at this point - but there's been a flood of really low quality content. So many shots from this year's thread in which people haven't even done the bare minimum: turning the HUD off. But generally speaking, we're seeing screenshots with HUDs, no free camera used, people just pressing F12 during cut-scenes (so literally no original content whatsoever), no free camera tools used, and people just taking screenshots during normal gameplay with no modifications.

The whole point of these threads is to create art. Just taking a random screenshot during normal gameplay with the HUD on, at your native resolution, with no custom camera work, that literally anyone could take... well, to be frank, it's a waste of everyone's time.

I don't post because it seems like most people have stopped caring about good screenshots, and now the thread's been inundated with low quality, zero effort content. I rarely even bother visiting it anymore because so little of it is good. Compare it to last year's thread, or the ones from the years before that, and there's a stark difference in quality. :(

Also I don't mean any offense with my statements, and I'm sure there will be people reading this and who will want to argue. I'm not going to single anyone out or tear any individual down; I'm simply stating an observation about the general decline of Gaf's screenshotting community.

I fail to see a problem with the last one. I think this thread has more than enough space for artsy bullshots, and genuine representative gameplay that can still be visually impressive.

I agree with the rest (cut scenes or HUD for instance), and I don't even disagree with the initial comment regarding the quoted screenshot (why even share this, lol) but pretty shitty to include the last category among the rest.

The whole point of these threads is to create art.
And here I thought it was to share the beautiful visuals of gaming. Guess I was wrong.

Seems presumptuous of you to say that.

But what do I know. *crawls back to the console screenshot thread*

Since my account is still active I thought I'd post these.

Zelda BOTW on Cemu w/ 12k texture pack.

Hoping for a 21:9 fix so having to stretch them a bit for now. 3rd shot down with 4k texture pack.
