Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

The direct is 35 minutes there isn't enough time for all that shit.

Gonna be like 15 minutes on ARMS, 15 minutes on Splatoon, and 5 minutes on a bunch of smaller other stuff.

I can see them showing off Switch version of DQ XI on Japanese direct along side with new inazuma eleven.

And I think smash 4 for switch is not crazy high expectation as it's simply a port and they have lots of other things to cover on E3.

It'll mostly be Splatoon 2 and ARMS, just like they said it would be from the moment it was announced. Direct threads always get a bit out of hand aha

GAF will apparently never change, even in the cases where Nintendo communicates clearly what's going to be shown.

I'm not getting super excited for this one as I doubt there will be many surprises considering E3 is close.

It will still be good to hear more about Splatoon and Arms though.

yeah i dont know where this idea of smash 4 port being too big for a direct comes from. a port is a port is a port and not a new game.

I mean zelda twilight princess HD was also announced on a direct

Yes, but Nintendo often say things like this, such as saying the Direct will focus on games out in Spring, but we get details and reveals for games beyond Spring. Let's not deride people because they think we'll get stuff beyond Splatoon and ARMs.

All it means is that there will be large segments on Splatoon and ARMS.

Again, no worldwide general Direct has come without a new announcement.

You shouldn't expect DQXI, it's clear that the Switch version is not ready to be shown yet, otherwise they would have talked about it in the presentation this morning.

I know I'm just saying if it's only 35 minutes long and is focusing largely on Splatoon 2 and ARMS we probably won't see a whole lot of other announcements. That being said we'll almost certainly have a few.

As I postulated earlier, I expect it to be 10 minutes Splatoon, 10 minutes ARMS and the rest for everything else with the Direct being around 40 minutes. That is a significant focus on Splatoon and ARMS.

There are directs for seasonal lineups, and there are directs that explain specific games in depth. Big announcements have come out of the former, but rarely if ever from the latter.

What I really want are games like Pullblox and Dr Mario. I'm sure they'll also take the time to go through the online details given how the two show runners for this direct are predominantly online.

Yeah, and this is the former hence being a Nintendo Direct. It'd be an ARMS/Splatoon Direct if it was just those two

Yeah, and this is the former

No part of this is ambiguous sheesh.

The language used to describe the seasonal directs include words like "spring" and "lineup."

Updated this by removing some stuff that may not be necessary and tried to fit that in a 35 minutes timeslot.

Predictions :
-----------------------------------------------------------------
No part of this is ambiguous sheesh.

Dedicated directs on a game doesn't mention "mainly talking about x game". They only talk about that game. That's why there's no announcement to come from it.

they said that they will focus on two games but its nothing like a xenoblade chronicles x direct

It's to focus on ARMS and Splatoon as much as the April 2015 Direct focused on Spring 2015 and so forth. It's a focus, but it's not exclusive.

Predictions:
Begins by talking us through the online interface and mobile app. - 3 minutes long
10 minutes put aside for ARMS
Pullblox announced, begins with a Switch themed puzzle. - 1 minute
Dr Wario - 1 minute
10 minutes for Splatoon 2
3 minutes for Dark Souls trilogy!
Zelda DLC pack 1 shown for 2 minutes
Virtual Console details for the rest of the direct, launching with online Virtual Boy games.

Oooh, if they're doing something in the vein of Nintendo World Championship or Smash Tournament, this would be a good place to announce it. Especially if it is a Splatournament or and Arms competition (or both)

I believe ARMS will surprise a lot of people. It seems incredibly fun and accessible, taking Wii Sports Boxing to the next level. This game will be great.

2 years ago, Pokémon Rumble World came out
4 years ago, Pokémon Rumble U came out
6 years ago, Pokémon Rumble Blast came out
8 years ago, Pokémon Rumble came out.

I think you may get your wish :P

Note: the above is not indicative of insider knowledge

Yay, more Pokémon Rumble!
Said no one ever. :p

It's true that Ambrella is most likely next though. One could make an argument for Genius Sonority, but between their Shuffle support and last month's New Denpa Men, they must be far less pressured to release a new game. I don't feel like a Shuffle port on Switch is likely either, since the game's F2P nature doesn't fit well with the relatively small, hardcore player-base Switch has for its first few months. Maybe later.

I'll say that I'm cautiously optimistic for Ambrella's next game though. Rumble has run its course, and I suspect they may release a new type of game this time around. Not necessarily outside the Pokémon Mii / toy aesthetic, but something that plays differently. That's just my intuition though, not to say that they've won the benefit of the doubt after four consecutive Rumble releases. :p

I agree
Despite what some user claims, I'm not expecting big bombs to be dropped tomorrow (and if it will happen I'll be happy), and these are my expectations:

SWITCH:

- Splatoon 2 testfire 2 date (May); Story mode teased; new weapons and maps
- ARMS dated (June); new characters, modes detailed (single player "cinematic endings", online tournaments and leaderboards, and so on. Normal buttons detailed.
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe overview trailer
- Puyo Puyo Tetris demo available...NOW!
- Street Fighter II trailer, focused on color changing and Hadoken mode
- Pikmin sidescroller now also on Switch!
- Bomberman DLC detailed

3DS:
- Pikmin sidescroller dated
- Ever Oasis overview trailer and "release window" (something like "Q3")
- Allaince Alive localization confirmation
- Fire Emblem Echoes overview trailer
- Miitopia localization confirmation

predictions

10 mins arms - new characters, captain falcon, little mac and donkey kong announced (Little Mac and Falcon is redesigned as a cyborg, DK has spring attachments), release date may
10 mins splatoon - new weapons, new stages, community featuers, single player trailer, release date july
First Party Switch software (5 min) - Smash announced as a stop gap between splatoon and mario odyssey, corrin and bayonetta amiibo, Fire Emblem Warriors trailer shown, Mario Odyssey is not mentioned, MK8 DX overview
third Party Switch software - mentioning of SMT. DQ IX without release date, street fighter 2
3DS games - Pikmin, Ever Oasis shown (possibly with release dates), Fire Emblem Echoes is shown too

Yeah, the Nico Nico stream has estimated 35 mins for the Direct iirc.
Unless I've missed something Nico Nico has never been right with the times for Nintendo Directs.

Nintendo usually shows the length of the Nintendo Direct like half an hour before it starts.

As I postulated earlier, I expect it to be 10 minutes Splatoon, 10 minutes ARMS and the rest for everything else with the Direct being around 40 minutes. That is a significant focus on Splatoon and ARMS.

Is it? The original Splatoon Direct was 33 minutes.

Since Splatoon and ARMS aren't on the 3DS, there will be 3DS games as well.

Dedicated directs on a game doesn't mention "mainly talking about x game". They only talk about that game. That's why there's no announcement to come from it.

It must also be noted that the European (at least Italian) description talks about: "incoming games for 3DS and Switch"
no "season" underlined, but neither a focus ONLY on those 2 games.
I think it is safe to assume that they will talk about details for many incoming games for both consoles from now to let's say summer

Of course. People getting to stuck on the "focus mainly" a little too much. All it means is Splatoon 2 and ARMS will get the majority of the Nintendo Direct time. They have a lot to tell us about both games, especially ARMS.

I hope this Direct means we won't see Splatoon 2 taking up much time for Nintendos Digital Event/Conference at E3. E3 needs to be about new IPs and new announcements. Of course Mario Odyssey will be big at E3.

No part of this is ambiguous but with all due respect you didn't get it. It is "information on 3DS and Switch". This information happens to be "focusing mainly on" two games in question. This means the segments about these two cover lion's share of Direct's time. This doesn't mean there won't be anything else, in fact it means there will be something else because otherwise they shouldn't mention the 3DS at all, and word "mainly" is not a synonym to "exclusively".

To be honest, I'm not sure of the accuracy of Nico Nico estimates, but going by what other posters have said, it is probably a close enough approximation of the length of the Direct. Naturally, Nintendo will be more accurate, but we would only know just before the Direct begins, which doesn't help with planning around it.

Not sure how that's germane to what I said...

Tbf Nico Nico I thought only put time by half hour increments so seeing 35 minutes is different. Maybe they're closer to it than I think. I'm hoping that means it's around 40 minutes. It's definitely over half hour for sure.

Actually it's clearly stated the focus is on those 2:
http://www.nintendo.it/Altro/Nintendo-Direct/L-ultimo-Nintendo-Direct/Nintendo-Direct-698557.html
But they won't talk ONLY about those.

I could see them saying something like "We will talk about plans for the virtual console at E3, but to wet your appetite, there will be (insert game here) available on the eshop free later this week."

I would't be surprised if the handle all 3DS announcements before the E3 event as well, so they can do a all-Switch E3 event.

Not sure how that's germane to what I said...

Just 10 minutes for ARMS is not much, if Splatoon 1 got 33 minutes.

Ah, right. I haven't personally used Nico Nico to stream anything before, but ~35 mins sounds like a fair length for a Direct. The longer the merrier (and the higher the chance for more surprises to pop up!).
