Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Splatoon 1 had a dedicated direct. This is not a dedicated direct. If you're expecting half an hour of ARMS here, you're in for disappointment.

My expectations is to not get much more Switch game focus than Splatoon and ARMS. And I'm fine with that.

Ah, right. I haven't personally used Nico Nico to stream anything before, but ~35 mins sounds like a fair length for a Direct. The longer the merrier (and the higher the chance for more surprises to pop up!).

We should definitely get one new game announcement. We've always gotten a new game with worldwide Directs. It could be a small game or a medium sized game since E3 is close. I'm hoping for a Captain Toad Treasure Tracker 2, but I have zero confidence that'll ever happen. ☹️

I would't be surprised if the handle all 3DS announcements before the E3 event as well, so they can do a all-Switch E3 event.

Reggie did say E3 would focus on Switch and 3DS. So, I'm not sure how much 3DS will take up. I mean FE Warriors is coming to New 3DS along with Switch. So that's cool. I can see demos for Pikmin 3DS and Ever Oasis. I'm hoping 3DS talks is small. I'm greedy for Switch news lol

I could see them saying something like "We will talk about plans for the virtual console at E3, but to wet your appetite, there will be (insert game here) available on the eshop free later this week."
I can't wait for that free game
Mother 3

Tbf Nico Nico I thought only put time by half hour increments so seeing 35 minutes is different. Maybe they're closer to it than I think. I'm hoping that means it's around 40 minutes. It's definitely over half hour for sure.

For reference.

anything that is a new game will be at e3... ports will probably the right bet here

I wanted to add I think Nintendo will make it clear that you can play ARMS with standard traditional controls lol. I know it's funny saying that, but there seems to be a good amount of people who still think you can only play the game with motion controls. They'll probably show each control setup to play the game (i.e. One joycon, both joy con, standard controls).

Yeah I'll take a port of a Wii U game.

For reference.

Hmm. I forgot about that.

why are people still surprised that the 3DS is getting games?

did people forget GBC was getting games when GBA came out, and GBA with DS?

Because they have selective memories. Destiny and Dragon Age Inquisition came out on PS360 too, 1 year after the PS4 and XB1 were released.

I do think 3DS exclusives will / should dry up. Fine with a few cross gen versions of things but I really don't think we should see many more 3DS exclusives from now.

how about
2 minutes of arms
and 33 minutes of the vastly superior and better ip that people actually care about

thankx

People think their message board arguments about how Switch is Nintendo's only platform now make any sense in the real world.

Nintendo: "hey we are doing an ARMS and Slpatoon 2 Direct!"

Gaf: "I wonder what new games they will announce!"

Oh Gaf, never change.

It's funny. People made similar asinine statements bout Splatoon before launch

Yeah, I was thinking this. I think Arms looks really dull but I thought the same thing about Splatoon before playing it.

However, a big part of Splatoon is the way you can explore and interact with the actual maps- it's the same with the stages on Smash Bros. But Arms looks like it takes place in very generic arenas, and I'm really not sure that the fighting mechanics of the game will be interesting enough by themselves for me to want to play it.

Also, the aesthetic of Arms is absolutely horrible, especially when compared to Splatoon. The characters look like they're from that Aardman Quavers advert which played at every UK cinema during the late 90s:

Nintendo : "hey we are doing a Nintendo Direct but we'll mostly focus on ARMS and Splatoon 2 so don't expect the world"

Resonable gaf : "I wonder what small-scale games they could announce !"

Other gaf : "lol GAF you never change !!!!"

Would this be a good place to throw some E3 details out? I may just be thirsty for it since someone pitched the idea of this year's E3 Direct "thing" being Rick & Morty (a la Robot Chicken from a few years back)

Oh no I was thinking the direct is today at midnight ...

more time to get hyped!

It would be awesome if they give us a release date for arms and spaltoon

I mean, it's a Switch and 3DS direct. Unless ARMS or Splatoon 2 will be multiplat between the two, isn't this a perfectly normal reaction?

Hey, didn't the Xenoblade Direct start with a trailer for Shulk in Smash Bros?

Obviously we're gonna get an Inkling and slinky man trailer for the yet unannounced Smash Bros for Switch edition!

Nintendo almost always announces new games at worldwide Directs, and in this case they stated the Direct is primarily but not exclusively focused on these two games, and that 3DS will be featured in some capacity, so it is a decent possibility that there will be at least one new announcement.

How confident are you guys in Switch features being talked about? If this Direct is around 40 minutes that's a pretty damn long Direct and to say they're focusing on Splatoon 2 and ARMS makes me wonder how long are they seriously spending on these two games? 10-12 minutes each? Let's say 12 minutes that leaves around 16 minutes or so. The usual 3DS games will be talked about, but I'm starting to wonder if they'll mention Switch media apps like Netflix, Hulu. Maybe what's coming to the trial version of the online app this summer or even a little VC talk.

I honestly didn't think this Direct was going to be longer than 25 minutes, but seeing Nico Nico estimate 35 minutes makes me think they could squeeze some sort of Switch features update into it.

Having played both Splatoon 2 and Arms in Londons premiere of the switch I can honestly say this will be huge.

I really hope that Nintendo support this great title with lots of DLC and advertising, the way you can use your arms as weapons is so fluid, its so natural and the feel with the hd rumble was fantastic.

Nintendo bring out some official bundles though so I can get a game plus Zelda and some more joycons!

They'll probably announce springy Amiibo for ARMS and maybe a joy con bundle for ARMS that matches with Spring Man and Ribbon Girl.

It's because Wii U was such a flop that fans expected Nintendo to throw all their weight behind the Switch. Not to mention since it is a hybrid console/handheld, many hoped that having a unified platform would be mean less game droughts and a more consistent flow of titles to the Switch. People feel that time and resources spent developing games for the 3DS would be better suited for the Switch.

We'll still be getting that, but people seem to forget Nintendo need to give the 3DS support in case Switch doesn't do well, plus the fact it has a 60m+ userbase who deserve support too

As long as they don't stay the first 5 minutes telling us how good "1 2 Switch" is and please buy it, it will be good.

A Nintendo Direct sold me TW101, this one could sell me ARMS and Spla2n.

You keep waiting on those new games, then.

Well, considering that E3 is just around the corner, and that there are 3DS games such as Pikmin and Ever Oasis that we desperately need updates about, it's unlikely that this direct will feature anything but the most minor new announcements.

That still doesn't make any sense.

"Yo Nintendo! Stop supporting your cash cow and put all your resources into this new platform. We don't want you to make smart business decisions, we want to feel better about our purchase."

Yeah, no.

Other than for DLC reasons, I don't think they've really ever touched on games that are already out in a Direct unless they literally just came out that week or aren't out in a specific region. Come on now
