Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

I would expect mostly Splatoon and Arms and then some additional info on other game(s) but not necessarily a ton. Better to expect that and be happily surprised if there is more! :)

That's the approach I'm taking right now! Though I hope that the release dates for ARMS and Splatoon 2 from that 4Chan leak are correct. Late May seems like the perfect time to release ARMS.

Thank you all! So based on your replies, are you all feeling this will be more of a specific Direct focused mostly on Splatoon and Arms or is Nintendo due for a meatier heavier Direct? I'm trying to set expectations for surprises lol.

Aha you got quite a few replies there. I would imagine they're saving the big stuff for E3 but we may get some eShop games and perhaps one big reveal.

Assuming both 4Chan leaks are fake, we're faced with a big question. Do we prefer "leaks" that take a blurry screenshot of some named folders, or ones that just have text and a bunch of random details?

Yeah... That part seems to be the first first red flag. Though if we're pretending that anything is possible, it could be that they decided to add that to DLC pack 1 and do something different for pack 2.

I like both kinds of leaks...actually honestly I prefer no leaks at all, especially if any of the content is a pleasant surprise.

I hear ya on the red flag. Could be as you speculate, and could also just be that the poster forgot to specify that portion of the DLC is for Pack 2. So it's still possible!

But as another poster said, this leak contains even more games than at the Switch presentation. So that makes me question it as well....

My only hesitation about June 30th for Splatoon 2 is I'd thought Nintendo clarified it wasn't coming H1. So I was thinking mid-July before the August Obon Festival in Japan. Though 06/30 is just barely H1 so perhaps it's close enough (presuming I'm even remembering that info correctly).

whats the latest buzz?

Two 4Chan rumors/leaks:

Both requiring mild to moderate-sized grains of sea salt.

It's a General Direct so there will be other games that will be covered in this. They just happen to emphasize the two games. Just don't expect too much though as to not get disappointed.

Game-specific directs focus only on one game and is generally short.

We did get a Fire Emblem one and an Indie-focused one recently to be fair. Iwata's passing certainly contributed to the prolonged absence of a Direct, as well as Wii U on its exit.

No. This is a general Direct, so it'll have lots of stuff. Except, instead of 2-4 minutes each on Splatoon/ARMS, it'll probably be around 10 minutes each as per the focus.

When it's a specific Direct, it's named as such as per the Animal Crossing Direct, Fire Emblem Direct etc.

Splatoon 2 + ARMS + mostly smaller stuff for 3DS and Switch, I imagine. It could be a lot of good games, but it'll be stuff that they talk about now because it's either out very soon or is not big enough so it won't get any sort of spotlight at E3 (apart from Treehouse segments).

This is a Nintendo Direct newbie - let's keep his expectations reasonable! Lots of stuff could be a lot of details on games we already know about. There should be at least one or two significant new announcements involving first party content but we don't want the poor guy to get hype whiplash :O

Nothing really, there have been a few rumors that we've quickly proven fake.

I haven't been able to read all the posts this afternoon; what proved these fake?

I'm at work and definitely can't click 4chan links... But I'm dying to know. Would you do me a favor and copy+paste some text? For an old pal?

Really? All I remember is getting a release date of "summer", which is pretty darn vague. I could be remembering that wrong though. I feel like E3 would need to bring the thunder with some unexpected announcements if Splatoon 2 were out in June though. That would leave just Mario, Xenoblade 2, and FE: Warriors for the second half of the year.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse 3D - Why would it be 3D if you use the touch screen?
Zelda BotW DLC - The rumor was talking about new dungeons due for July whereas DLC pack 2 (the pack with the new dungeon) is dated for the end of the year.

I guess it isn't proven but I find it highly unlikely.

It was specifically for 3DS games. I'd call a "true" direct one where we get a forecast for the output of what the entire company is doing.

I mean, Switch wasn't revealed until October 2016, and... what exactly was Nintendo going to announce for Wii U in September 2016?

They don't include stuff in Directs unless it has a new element. They don't just rehash :p

But fine :p

Once again, here's the countdown.

Can someone please add this to the OP?

I expect it to be where they tease those tow games out and give solid release dates, yes. They'll probably also talk about Ever Oasis, Pikmin, and Fire Emblem Echoes on the 3DS, maybe giving a release date for the former. There will probably be some other announced stuff with a bit more details such as release dates/windows, like for a lot of the Nindies we saw. In terms of bombshells, I'd expect relatively few. They'll probably announce one or two brand new things, but I doubt much more than that.

Ooh! That looks juicy. Would like for some to be true, the N64 zelda games hmm.. only if it isn't at the expense of a potential HD collection(3ds version).

I'll most likely be driving home when the Direct starts tonight! Oh no! I'll need to put my phone/watch to Do Not Disturb. Twitter notifications would drive me up a dang wall.

I don't want to believe it because it doesn't include Gamecube though :(

As none of our current control options for Switch have analog triggers, we can't have Gamecube VC just yet. They'd need to give us support for the controller adapter and/or a wireless GC controller. Give me Wavebird 2.0 Nintendo!

That's splitting hairs a bit. It was general, let's face it. They weren't showing the Switch at the time and the Wii U was dead. It was general.

That's exactly what Nintendo told us to expect. That won't stop gaffers from going insane though.

If they confirm Mother 3 I figure this is how it would go:

Good: Mother 3 confirmed
Bad: Kumatora's name is changed to Susan
Ugly: Script changes that
Hinawa
didn't die but simply "disappeared"

I wanted to watch this 'live', but I'll miss it since there's an interesting job fair from a big local company at campus and it starts at the same time the Direct goes live. Will catch it later at night.

No. Nintendo said this is a Direct on Switch and 3DS games, with a focus on Splatoon 2 and ARMS, just like the March 2016 Direct was a focus on Spring games, despite having Summer/Autumn games in and so forth.
