Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

People really expected bombs when they told us what to expect, and we're 2 months from E3.

Ya know, where the real bombs will likely be.

But hey, it's NeoGAF and the usual whiners after every Direct. "Never again, Nintendo!" *complains in the next Nintendo Direct thread....and next...and next*

ARMS: Minmin looks awesome, plus I love ramen. 4-player MP is pretty cool too. Was expecting more stuff though. The small character roster and weapon lineup won't help shake the feeling that the game is light on content/will be completely overshadowed by its inevitable sequel.

Splatoon 2: don't care much about Splatoon 2, but their take on horde mode looks fun I guess.

Also, I don't know about you, but I love the new format with the headlines. It almost feels like a news broadcast, and gives the whole thing a more straightforward, brisker pace.

[EDIT] I watched the JP Direct. Any EU/US exclusives I missed?

Yup. Missing a lot of charm from the Iwata days. Even when the content sucked, I still couldn't be mad with the way they delivered them.

Today's direct is...eh.

What kind of expectations are you people having for these things? Iwata openings at the beginning and end were the least important part of directs.

The format of this direct was great. Rapid fire announcements/dates, none longer than 2 minutes, and in depth previews for the two previously announced focus games.

I hope this style continues.

GAF won't get me down. It was a good direct and I have a good list of things I'm ready to play. More in year 1 than any modern console for me to play (owning a gaming PC), and it's all handheld-able.

Was already regretting my switch purchase and this direct did nothing for me. I expected nothing and was still disappointed. Arms looks atrocious. 3ds having a pretty decent last(?) year though

2 months before e3
Announced that it was mainly going to be about splarms

"This direct fucking sucks fuck you nintendo for not blowing my mind. Selling my switch now"

I wonder if the new Splatoon amiibo will have the same functionality as the original IB/IG/Squid trio? Can't imagine it'd be that different.

...I might want to get them anyway because those are pretty cool redesigns.

Horde mode in Splatoon is gonna be great. And the new squid boy and girl amiibo look awesome. That game is gonna be life come July 21st.

Enjoyable direct but not really feeling super excited. I don't really like PvE so the Splatoon mode doesn't interest me. I wish they revealed new stages or weapons or whatever. I was really excited thinking it'd be a new multiplayer mode.

Also wanted Zelda DLC detailed but I guess that's E3

If you were expecting anything big other than Splatoon and Arms then it's your own fault you're disappointed. Especially this close to E3.

Anyway, Splatoon look good, I'm still iffy on Arms, everything else I just kind of glazed over.

Guess Nintendo wants May to be a third party month - Disgaea, Minecraft, SF2. Can't say I'm exactly dying to play any of those, but hey maybe the handheld format will get me to play them.

Still no VC. Expected, but man having that right now would really help fill out the release schedule.

Nice steady stream of some pretty good stuff coming in the next few months. Doesn't seem like we'll get a drought of stuff to play. I do wonder if Nintendo will censor stuff in Payday 2? Will the meth lab mission see you baking cookies instead? I'd die laughing if we got that. 😆

Man how can you be disappointed with a Direct that explicitly advertised "focused on ARMS and Splatoon 2" and instead we get all this stuff that actually ends up being something of a consistent output from now til Summer

We eatin' y'all, this was easily one of the better Directs in a while
Because they even fucked up that part by having disappointing release dates for those games.

Overall it was pretty great!

Splatoon 2 in July was better than I was expecting. New mode looks cool too!
3DS Release dates and localization confirmations were great.
New Arms character looks cool.
Happy that female Corrin gets a amiibo.
Kirby news was also good. I just hope the new multiplayer games have online. Atleast I'll enjoy the 3D Adventure one.

Only bad thing imo is Arms in June instead of May. Feel like it should've been May but whatever.

Also since we are now getting Smash Amiibos, I wonder if nothing Smash related is actually in development...

seems like nintendo putting heavy hitters a little less then two months apart. Zelda then Mario kart then arms then splatoon. I bet smash drops around September then Mario in november

Co-op multiplayer for Splatoon? My friend will love this

Pretty decent Direct. I missed Shibata's goofiness tho..

Also I had the Japan stream open too and they showed off some dating sim game and the developers researching jellies jiggling, wtf was that all about

New Senran Kagura. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senran_Kagura

Oh Minecraft? The game that's been out for ages and many people don't give a damn about because it's already available on most platforms, including toasters?

Give me a break lol. Minecraft is cool to have on Switch, sure, but it's not anything to get excited about unless you're crazy about Minecraft already.

Minecraft is still a very important and popular title in Japan, many many many school children play it, watch it on YouTube, pour over strategy guides and magazines. It is an important title to have for Switch.

I wonder if they have data on the demographics which watch these presentations? They must be 80% in the 10-14 range to use that style of presentation.

They do, its standard practice and has been for a long time. We (my marketing agency not Nintendo) use things like google analytics, google tag manager, Youtubes own trackers and propitiatory systems to know who we are engaging and their level of engagement.

The level of data available to companies targeting you would shock the average internet user.

I was thinking... Maybe this Direct will be very 3DS focused, that way Nintendo won't have to waste too much time on it at E3.

The people complaining about VC aren't excited for Namco Museum? We're getting arcade games that haven't been released before! Damn millenials.

Splatterhouse and Rolling Thunder were on Wii in Japan, and Rolling Thunder was on 360, but I lost my shit all the same.

This trailer has Rolling Thunder 2 and a couple of others not shown in the Direct.

Honestly, I liked the new Nintendo Direct format. It's fast, entertaining, lots of content, and you don't get bored.

The ND format really improved.

Great job Ninty. We need more Nintendo Directs like this.

so what do you have for us Nintendo?

"Please play 3DS for 3 more months even though you traded that shit system towards a Switch"

just kidding

pumped for Puyo Puyo english demo!
