Project scorpio to be unveiled at E3

Sure, if you only do console gaming Scorpio will undoubtly be the best place to play 3rd party titles, thanksfully Ive got a pretty powerful PC so I do most of my gaming there. Im still sitting with 1080p 60fps with a GTX 1080, so sometimes it's hard to udnerstand al lthe hype about 4K on Pro and Scorpio. According to the Steam hardware survey most PC gamers are still sitting at 1080p.

But yeah, I understand that getting a Scoprio mostly for 3rd party is a good reason (hopefully considering it's not out yet). However there's no advantage to choose a Xbox One (any of them) over a PS4 right now, which is why MS NEEDS to build up a better first aprty portofolio.

Sorry, and PC. Then save your money and don't buy one.

The thing is the 499$ price point only works in the US. Everywhere else on the planet it will cost a lot more than that. I hope that they won't think only about the US and think more globally. At 650$+ CAD thi thing will gather dust on shelves. I get the "it really is for enthusiasts" point but it also need to sell more than 10k units per month too.

Yeah I don't think $499 is a home run price tag I totally get that. It's still a very high number and one that they struggled at with the original Xbox One. The thing a lot of people forget though is that the Xbox ONE actually launched very well, even at $499. The problem was it's legs as their more core fans already bought in and the more casual crowd weren't going in at that price. As Scorpio is entirely designed for that initial purchasing niche and not the broader demo I think MS would be much more comfortable with Scorpio at $499 then say the original One was.

My main point really is that if Scorpio retails for $399 that tells me that they were able to get the cost of the box under that point, not that they went there due to Sony's position in the market.

I doubt it gonna be white. Black is always more "premium" and there is probably a reason we didnt see a black S.

I'll be fine either way, but still want that white on black.

It's new hardware and people are excited for it. It's not that difficult to understand.

No I got that part. I'm saying since this is being touted as an extension of Xbox One where a couple of months ago it had little to no support it just suddenly became the next best thing.

So...not to be that guy but why is this all of a sudden the most exciting thing ever? Its just an Xbox One with more specs. Its like that guy that made that other thread about having a spiffy UI, more multimedia options, and etc. But cmon...the games...where are they? All this power is meaningless without the games.

We just reached the point where I guess games no longer matter its how powerful the console is. I mean this excitement was also present before the Xbox One was unveiled and look where it ended up.

It's an Xbox console that gets back to doing what Xbox does best: powerful hardware, good dev tools, and strong system features that push the medium forward. When it comes to hardware and features, Xbox has been incredibly strong since Phil took over. He needs to stop closing studios and get first party back to where it was in the early 360 days, though. Hopefully now that the other stuff is in good shape, that'll be his initiative going forward.

MS job is to get people like me to buy an Xbone, that's their job and to do that they need more bigger first party games.

I even sold my Xbone for a Switch. Ive never ever sold a console before. They are doing such a terrible job to keep me invested in the Xbox plattform I found better use of selling it and buying a Switch.

Sales look fine to me. I'm sure people are waiting on the Scorpio to drop, so that effects sales somewhat.

I mean are you going to buy one even it sells for 399? If no, then why the concern about price?

Are Sony's sales figures supposed to diminish any excitement for the system? Maybe it's just me, but:

Hes trying to say that microsoft needs to sell xboxs to people who arent xbox enthusiasts already. Stop looking at everything from a console warriors viewpoint.
The Xbox One S did provide a temporary boost but it seems to be gone now.

Well it's more powerful, better controller, all the other stuff and PS4 does not have the Forza Horizon series? That's my tick boxes full.

Of course they will get it under that point. There's nothing exotic under the hood.

On that I agree, which is why I think it needs to be $399. I thought he was just trying to diminish the value because of Sony's sales. My bad.

Why is it their job to get you to buy an Xbox when you have a powerful enough PC to play their games? Seems like it's their job to fix the Win 10 store and get you to buy their PC games based on what their current strategy looks like.

As has been pointed out by several other posters, MS isn't really trying to appeal to people outside the core Xbox base anymore. Sony & Nintendo seem to be fighting for the big piece of the mass market (WW) and MS is making this device more for the core enthusiasts to ensure retention.

I doubt you'll get your wish because it's simply not aimed at me or you.

I was looking at it in a realistic way. Sure, 399 would be fucking amazing, but I'm not expecting it. I wasn't the one making Sony comparisons in a Xbox thread.

Damn, console wars is serious business, apparently.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the final design. I bet Destiny 2 will look beautiful on both this and the PS4 Pro, so I'm excited!

I'm getting one day one if only for the fact that it has.. an actual 4K bluray player. I recently picked up a KS8000 but my internet is too slow to stream 4K content. So aside from Horizon Zero Dawn I'm not really getting that much use out of it.

That I can understand.

I think one thing that is important to remember regarding pricing is Scorpio doesn't exist to make Xbox magically outsell PS4. In fact I'm pretty confident MS aren't expecting that at all. Spencer himself has already stated that the "race" for this generation is over and that he expects the S to still be the primary seller.

Scorpio exists for 2 main reasons. Firstly to drive up revenue and ASP prices from a smaller more enthusiast market. Secondly to keep their existing Xbox fanbase engaged and active with the brand.

I'm sure MS would love for Scorpio to be a huge hit and somehow start giving them the lead on monthly sales but that isn't the expectation. They aren't going to be, or should I say don't have to be, in a price race with the Pro.

Now they very well may still launch at $399 but they don't have to $499 would also work for the targets and demographic they are targeting. I don't think where Sony is positioned is the most important factor in their pricing model.

You don't belong here, to much common sense.

Well said.

Even if it is $499, I am not planning on getting one until next year some time anyway, so I will probably find a deal for a little less.

Ok, you dont game much in general than?

Sure yeah, assuming that's true....assuming, Scorpio still wasn't designed with people like you in mind.

Day one.

Got cash set aside. Will only use my Pro for sony first party exclusives, the scorpio will be my new main console.

Yeah, as others have said it's not for you then and that's alright. Some people like different things. Apple, MS, Amazon, Nintendo, Sony, etc....

The interesting part from this pr is whether they are walking back on all games coming out on windows 10 as well. The wording makes it seem exclusive Xbox one/Scorpio games. Let's see

Sony original console is still gaining them market share.

The XBO-S buzz is gone. They can't afford to just sell to enthusiast market, like the PRO can.

At 399$ they would still be selling pretty much only to the enthusiast market, the same people who bought the Xbox One at launch at 499$.
Scorpio is not a next gen console, it hasn't exclusive games, it doesn't bring the promise of exclusive experiences compared to Xbox One. That makes it useless for tons of people who simply want to be able to play certain games without spending extra money.
It is an hardware upgrade targeted at enthusiasts who want the best graphics, pretty much like the PS4 Pro.
Their main sales driver will still be the Xbox One S and they better get the price down to 199$ with promotions during November and December.
Reality gets distorted on places like GAF where mostly core gamers take part in the discussions, they think that what is true or meaningful for them, still is in general.
When the PS4 Slim had not stellar sales in September and October there were many crazy posts claiming that it was a flop and PS4 Pro was bond to outsell it during the holiday season.
About Scorpio's price it will be between 399$ and 499$, that is certain. 399$ is definetly possible for what is at the core an overclocked PS4 Pro a year later.
Initially I thought their APU would be way more complex and that brought me to rule out 399$, but the reality since the specs were announced is that they pretty much have the same APU of the PS4 Pro. Still compared to the Pro overclocking does't come for free since the manufacturing process is the same and it brings in a more expensive cooling solution and power supply, they also have an extra 4GB of GDDR5 and the UHD drive so overall they might be taking a small loss at 399$ and probably it isn't worth it since their target audience is still going to buy it at 449$ or even 499$ max. I guess we'll find out at E3, of course if they care more about headlines and hype than profits they will try to price it at 399$. Most balanced price for them seems to be 449$.

Guess only a little bit of time focusing on the console itself and the rest for games? Or they are having an extra long conference to do both with good amount of time.

Don't know how to feel......

I thought E3 was all about games.. this will take away from other games... I have very high expectations for MS E3... this sort of brings me down...

We already have all of the specs. It'll be box + price + release date and then likely a bunch of games.

If all you need is the 4K player just get a cheap 500 gig Xbox One S, bear in mind those'll get real cheap once the Scorpio is out and everyone is looking to offload theirs. That'll save you a few hundred and you can buy, like, 6 movies.

That's not very PositiveGamer of you.

"Ultimately, we know you care most about great games, whether they be exclusive, multiplatform, independent or AAA. We are proud of the diverse lineup of games coming this year that will only be playable on Xbox One and will play better on Project Scorpio."

WTF? This is news... we will see I guess, but this statement rules out PC availability which is in stark contrast with their previous messaging.

I assume they meant the only console. I seriously doubt the Play Anywhere stuff isn't being pushed anymore.

This could backfire, i hope they dont waste half the time talking about specs and pixels and tera flops.
If the conference is 1 hr long, 15 min is the max i want to hear about it.

Play Anywhere and Xbox exclusive are things that can and do co-exist.

mS may have already won e3

They are showing a new console more powerful than the Pro, thats not their next gen console.

They should win by default.

IIRC Sony never had a national event for the Pro.

Thats another thing some folks need to consider, Sony never really positioned the Pro like MS is doing the Scorpio.

Not to be negative..

But MS has so many games in its back catalog to floor any E3 they wanted....

I mean, can MS really kill E3 with just Forza, Sea Of Thieves, and Crackdown?? Thats already expected and not mind shattering...

And with the recent cancellations and loosing 2nd party.. it is just puzzling!

They always take time to talk about new features and on occasion, new hardware ie hololens.

I don't think this will take much more time than these types of things usually take for their pressers.

The excitement was there but MS failed so hard on the messaging. And the policies.

IMO, they could have done some of the policies starting with the 360. Just make some things tied to your Live account.

There was no need for always online.
