What if SSR wasn't just exclusive to Black? What if it's an actual transformation, but it requires a Sayian to tap back into their darkside?
Maybe Goku realized that. In turn, he is trying to be more selfish and "evil" so he can hope to obtain the form. Then at that point, learn to control it.
It would make sense considering Goku's "evil" has seemed out of character and almost an act to a certain extent. Also, we have had no "evil" Saiyans that have reached SSB. It may be the secret to the next level.
Also all of this could very much not be the case and SSR could just be exclusive to Black as a parallel to SSB. I definitely know that's likely the situation, but hey, it would be cool.

Not that I think that will happen but I can't imagine any scenario where vegeta will just let Goku have a form if he can achieve it too

Races are only shared between twin universes, universe 6 is the only other universe with Saiyans.

There were only two saiyan planets, one in U6 and one in U7. So of course they're not extinct since U6 never had the Frieza genocide.

Early Champa arc when the multiverse is being explained to Goku and Vegeta.
It's also insanely shit against an enemy that can regenerate, and takes awhile to get worn out.
You need to be stronger than the person you're fighting to get the most out of it. If you're evenly matched, SSJ3 will most likely fsil.

Merged Zamasu isn't a permanent fusion because Zamsu and Black aren't Kaioshin. Then what the fuck makes someone a Kaioshin if it isn't their race?How does the potara tell if someone has been appointed a Kaioshin or not? lol, Toyotaro. It's extra confusing because the manga keeps the thing about only Kaioshin being able to use the time rings, so just wearing the potara in the manga makes you a Kaisohin. The anime completely avoided this problem by just saying that there needs to be a God in the fusion for it to be permanent.
Kaioshin, Kaio, and their attendants (like Kibito) are all part of the Shinjin race.

In the anime it made sense because a fusion needs to have a god in it to be permanent, not a Kaioshin specifically. Kaioshin is just a label in both the anime and the manga, but in the manga it's now weird as fuck.

No, wearing a Potara doesn't make you a Kaioshin, otherwise Vegeta and Goku would be a Kaioshin, it does however unofficially make you one. Non-Kaioshin people who use Potara's gain the ability to do things usually restricted to Kaioshin, like use Time Rings and Fuse, but they aren't officially Kaioshins.

I stopped caring about the manga long ago considering how it rarely changes the dynamic all that much and when it does it's usually for the worse.

Nah, you need to go watch the anime again, because Gowasu says flat out in in episode 66 that fusion needs a Supreme Kai to be permanent, and Kaioshin isn't a label, it's a position, which only 12 Gods hold.
Well I disagree. He has looked consistently worse and worse in each chapter to the point where he's now drawn well in less than 10% of his shot.
Special mention to when he lost his scarf and had the giraffe neck.

Toei threw the author of DBAF a bone by telling him he can make an official manga, but ultimately it's still fanfic. It has no bearing on the anime which is the official story. If a Gaffer were drawing a retelling of DB Super it would have just as much value as Toyotaro's version. Hell it would maybe have better consistency than Toyotaro's version

My bad. How would the Potara even tell since it's just a title?
For what it's worth, the Supreme Kai and God of Destruction have some kind of life bond despite gods of destruction apparently coming from normal races.
I mean, it's not the potara "knowing".
It's the "kaioshin" receiving a different effect from the potara. He becomes a kaioshin with some sort of ceremony which grants him a new status and new powers.
I guess there's also the fact that kaioshin title and powers can be transmitted.

If the power has to be passed then why are Black and Zamasu capable of using the time rings in the manga when Gowasu specifically says you have to have the power of a Kaioshin to use them?

Weren't potora earrings for Supreme Kais different? Also maybe there was some sort of ceremony involved since even with the earings Universe 12s God of Destruction was still dead.
Because they have received Kaioshin training and had the potaras on top of it.
The time ring is something you use, only kaioshin have the knowledge to do so, while the potara is something that behaves differently depending on your nature that can be used by anybody. That's how I see it anyway.
Toyotaro already ruined Super by adding his fan character gods, and messing up Toriyama's designs. No respect for Toriyama at all.
(Note: this is probably a slight exaggeration of the truth.)
That reminds me, I should announce that Akira Toriyama gave me his approval to do a new manga. It's basically a retelling of the Dragonball but there's tons of incest subtext now
