Call Of Duty WW2 reveal 26 april, website up [UPDATE: Leaked screenshots]

I expect this as the opening mission.

And to look that good. Also instead of a scripted scene go for dynamic where different people die and different parts of the beach get destroyed. Would make replays more fun in single player. Or a multiplayer game where it's a hand full of Germans vs 40+ allies running up the beach!!!

Gosh. I hate knowing this actually fucking happened.

Makes me fucking sick.

I get so emotional when I play WW2 games/movies.

Yes!

"Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault" on PC still holds the crown for the best playable/interactive Omaha Beach landing - I would love to see it topped with modern technology :)

Also, a closer look at the marketing via Reddit:

I seriously hope the co-op is more akin to Specs Ops mode in MW2 than the usual infinite wave survival garbage.

Reading the campaign description gives me vibes of what COD3 tried to do and we all know how that turned out.

Funny, they have to emphasize "boots on the ground multiplayer."

We seen nothing at all so far ndicating the campaign is anything but American.

I wouldn't be surprised if campaign was entirely American.

One of the nice points about BF1 is multiple nationalities in the SP. I also appreciate the fact that the British troop soundbites in the MP have multiple regional UK accents, not the usual all British = Cockney.

Question is - was it always the decision to go WW2, or a dramatic change of steer due to the reaction towards Infinite Warfare remaining futuristic?

Unlikely the Pacific theater will happen cause CoD: Workd at War, the last WW2 CoD game covered it.
Which is a shame, considering it is the only one to do so. More Pacific Theatre would be great considering how much the European Theatre is covered in these games. Would've loved to see it done in modern tech and visuals.

Hmm, exciting new ways to interact with friends and the CoD community?

Probably a little of column a and a little of column b.

Multiple nationalies thing wasnt good because it led to campaign be disaster. CoD pulled that multiple people campaign before like Modern Warfare 2 but DICE is disaster on Campaign front.

man i should replay mw2

Even before MW2. WaW was US and Soviet. MW1 US and British. COD 3 had 5 different playable nationalities. US, Canadian, British, Polish, and French. CoD 1 and 2 I believe had 3 US, British, and Soviet.

I mean ultimately it's still COD, so your team in MP doesn't really matter all that much.

Neo Russian Empire victory song was rad in MW1 tho I will say that

What makes you say that?

My playthrough? What kind of question is this even. Characters werent explored as much because they wanted to sneak a ot of them. Instead focusing 2-3 characters would be better.
I never cared any of the characters or missions because of this.

Very interested in this title. The story can finally be emotional again and not some cool dudes who save the world. That was so horrible in the last CoDs...

It would be extreamly painful...

You'll get a scripted scene and you'll like it.

I am so hyped for this. Haven't been hyped for CoD since MW3. So happy the future bitching worked. I predict this will be their biggest launch.

I'm not going to lie, the idea that this takes the relatively minor roll in the overall conflict Americans played and makes it the sole focus again is super disappointing and kills my excitement.

Especially as it'll guarantee another Saving Private Ryan rip off D Day sequence.

That could be so much more powerful if done right from a British or French perspective, going from the start of the war, the overwhelming German invasion, the full retreat as they conquer France, the desperate last stand at Dunkirk being turned into a massive rescue mission and snatching a victory from the jaws of utter defeat, then exploring the often overlooked naval battles, Battle of Britain, commando raids on occupied Europe, then, hours in, then you go for D Day, with the proper build up, and the experience of having lost the battle before, and turning the tables on the previously invincible German army, even retaking your characters homeland if it were a Frenchman, would all be so much better.

Instead I expect it'll be the context opening sequence, because that's basically when the war in Europe started by American histories recollection. A near meaningless set piece that gets over used as shorthand for the horror of industrialised warfar when you don't want to use the far more depressing and shades of grey riddled First World War.

And that's not even taking into account all the other fronts that had been in conflict for years before American got involved that will obviously never be mentioned in game. Gods the thought of this focusing on the yanks yet again pisses me off.

"Relatively minor role". Don't be a revisionist. The United States played a massive role on all fronts and the war would have been lost without their massive contribution. The Soviets didn't get to Berlin in Russian trucks.

Sledgehammer Games have supposedly been researching the World War 2 for two and a half years, so I'd say it was planned from the start. The biggest problem has been that all three Call of Duty studios decided to double down on a futuristic setting, leaving them no chance to be reactionary to that degree when fatigue began hitting in between Advanced Warfare to Infinite Warfare. This year onwards is when they'll have had that opportunity, so it'll be interesting to see where they go with Treyarch and Infinity Wards next entrys.

Call of duty returns to the roots with call of duty WWII - a breathtaking experiance that redefines world war II for a new gaming generation . Land in normandy on D-Day and battle across eroup through iconic location in historys most monumental war. Experience classic call of duty combat the hands of (comamandor?) and the unforgiving war against a global power throwing the world into tyranny.

This sounds like it's just another 'murica, fuck yeah type of shit.

Please have us play more characters than only americans. There are so many interesting french, german, italian or russian stories.

This.

Without U.S. involvement in WWII, it would have had a decidedly different outcome.

Great post.

Lets face it, without any of the major parties, the outcome would have been different. I would still give the biggest contribution to russia though. They did the majority of the bleeding and had the biggest war-economy at the end of the war.

I really hope the keep the camera on the Americans. Not because of Patriotism, but because you have such limited time already that you're not going to create a compelling story with only 2 hours per campaign. 8 - 10 hours Normandy to Berlin, 1 squad. That's what I want.

Yup.. that's unfortunate but i will take Band of Brothers style game in a heartbeat. It's been too long :)

No next-gen Stalingrad and potatos just yet :(

Yo, this is gonna be co-op?

God damn, I played World at War's co-op campaign so much. I never thought I'd be excited for a CoD game again. Hopefully it's splitscreen on PC as well, Black Ops 3 was great.

For the first time since CoD4/MW2 I am excited for a Call of Duty game.

I only hope the gameplay will be something different from what we have seen in the past CoD games.

Im hoping for slightly more realistic gameplay approach like BF instead of fast arcade bullshit it has become with last installment.

I realise I may project my own dissatisfaction with the setting here, but I wonder how well the mainstream market will react to going back to WW2 =/

Closest comparison would be BF1 with WW1, but even that is something different.

Maybe I'm asking too much, but can we get a WW2 game that doesn't just focus on Omaha D-Day and Americans? I'd like them to explore the UK, France, Russia's role etc. in the war, especially they were fighting it for 2-3 years before the Americans even joined in. But considering this is Call of Duty and Activision, maybe that's asking for too much.

I dunno about that, China's eastern seaboard was an utter wasteland by the end of WW2.

France got probably the best WW2 game of last gen with The Saboteur, UK got awesome reps in CoD2, and half of the last WW2 COD game was dedicated to the Eastern front with a third of CoD2 being eastern front, and a good portion of CoD1 being eastern front as well.

Contrary to popular belief, if this is soley an American game I'm pretty sure it would be the first game in the series that was. Idk about 3 though, never played it.

Definitely interested to see WW2 with modern technology, COD's budget and COD's constant need to do "exciting stuff!!".

Remember thinking that scene was amazing for its time and that was nearly 10 years ago.

I'd love it if they added a load of CoD2 maps to the game. Would love to play headquarters on Toujane again with an updated engine.
