Report: Activision to paywall game modes in Call of Duty

It's a rumor now, but I can see this. I'm shocked they don't paywall prestiges.

The new rumour comes from serial leaker TheGhostofHope, who says that the recent changes could be implemented for Call of Duty 2025.

According to Hope, the current plan in Call of Duty 2025 is to have more seasonal limited-timed modes (LTMs), but instead of them being traditionally free to all players, some will now be locked behind the games Battle Pass.

This means that in essence some LTMs will now be paywalled, with players only being able to access them by spending $20-30 on the Battle Pass.

Hope goes on further to say that higher valued skins and other bits of content could be part of Battle Pass, instead of Premium Event Passes.

Would u believe company that owns activision now decided to make their consoles/accesories/games more expensive 4,5years after launch of the gen? Those rich mofos live in a bubble, not reality so they are prone to making stupid decisions =D
I still don't believe it but I wouldn't be surprised. If they do this though, I absolutely think itll be the stupid themed modes they release every season. Like that stupid weed nuketown shit with 100000% xp gain and stuff like that. It's this dumb shit that only the minority care about so whatever.

I enjoy popping into lobbies when I don't have the time to play something like a long RPG mission from another game. Grinding for seasonal events, is fun...for free. If they actually do this, I'm out entirely. This series should come with a card reader chip enabled at this point. The MTX between COD and Diablo for example, are outrageous.

Rumors like these make me glad I burned out on the COD franchise with the original MW2 back in 2009 and haven't felt the need to ever play it again. I have a few friends who keep buying it every year and every year they constantly bitch and moan about how bad the game is... yet they keep buying it (aside: I have a couple friends who are stuck in the same cycle with FIFA and Madden, too). I don't get it. If you're constantly complaining about how bad the game is, stop buying it.

I swear it's like some gamers have Stockholm Syndrome with annual game franchises and gaming publishers know and exploit that fact.

Edit:
Diablo 4 next?

I wouldn't be surprised. They already showed their hand when Fergusson first stated they were aiming for annual expansions and a "ten year roadmap". They've since walked back the annual expansions and are now looking at every-other-year expansions which probably makes it more likely they try to find even more ways to nickel-and-dime their remaining community through seasonal monetization crap like Destiny.

As someone who was away from gaming and came back in the past few years.....are "Limited Timed Modes" basically like Nuketown 24/7???

I notice these sorta timed curated playlists in MP games now that I didn't 10 years ago.....

Game publishers "We need to raise the price of games. You used to buy games at $50 CIB but that was the 90s, due to inflation, that same game would be $9million dollars today."

Also Game Publishers "Charge for game modes, maps, skins, and everything."

Hahaa, noobs! If they're really smart they'd make a season paywall pass ultima deluxe where you can pay MORE money for even MORE standard things like bullets and boots. For even MORE money.
Alas, they don't have my brains.

I wonder how many dollars in Revenue they lost by putting this game on a rental service.

COD is definitely becoming an $80 game.

MS needs to keep the value of COD high if they want to make their money back eventually on the acti-blizz deal.

I really dont think gaming ll survive the next decade, 90% of news are bad decisions nowadays.
As long as there is a demand for gaming and people need to work to earn a living for food and shelter, games will be made.

Never doubt that or even worry about it.

This capitalistic world will never leave a dime of money on the table and even the smallest piece of cheese will have competition.

The only thing that could change is the scale of the investment and that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if we could get all the VCs and social change grifters out of our hobby and on to the next thing we invent for them to exploit.

They are events with access to special rewards, and themed as collabs with brands and famous faces, like the current Seth Rogen one

Other recent ones have been TMNT, and Jay and Silent Bob. And for now everyone has access to the free part of the event rewards plus you can buy the premium track.

After the changes, you will need to have an active battle pass to participate. That is, you will need the big battle pass to get rewards from the small event battle passes.

There is no indication the free tracks are going away.

In effect they are merging the premium event track and premium battlepass into one.
Assuming they arent also increasing the price drastically it should actually be cheaper to just buy the premium battlepass to unlock things from the Battlepass and from the Premium Event Pass.

Well, that's a horrible idea, lol.

They are increasing the value of the Premium Battlepass and getting rid of the additional event pass you would have to purchase anyway.
The event pass costing money was truly scummy, youve already paid for the game, then lets say youve paid for the battlepass, when an event comes up, you also have to pay the event pass.
Now you would just pay for the battlepass and get the premium event pass as well.

Locking the LTMs is something else entirely though.

Ok if it works like that
