Thanks for the list guys. Appreciate it. Don't know about you guys but for me, it stacks up as the following.....

Pre-ordered a month or so within release -
- The Last of Us Part II
- God of War
- Spider Man
- Death Stranding
- Detroit
- Days Gone
- Knack 2

50/50 -
- Wild
- Matterfall

No interest whatsoever -
- Gran Turismo Sport
- Everybody's Golf
- Dreams

Would buy if I owned/cared about PSVR -
- Farpoint

On a related side note, aren't a few of the games not first party? Correct me if im wrong but I always assumed that first party games are games published by the console manufacturer and are developed by the studios that said console manufacturer owns where as a second party game is also published by that said console manufacturer but the developer isn't owned by that said console manufacturer?

This is how I always thought that meant. Am I right, in the middle or way off?

Pretty much my list. I'd put Dreams in the 50/50 bracket.

There is no such thing as second party. It was an invention by video game fans to differentiate releases just like you classified, but the industry never used or uses this classification. Things are either third party or first party. If published by a manufacturer, it is first party.

I'm really interested in the new GoW, but I missed the PS3 and never played a GoW before, how important you think the backstory will be?
I'd be willing to wager that no, the backstory probably won't be terribly important. I could see them keeping it vague and saying that Kratos was just an angry guy who did some fucked up shit once upon a time and is now trying to live as a single dad.

That said, GOWIII is on PS4, can probably be had for pretty cheap at this point, and most directly explains the events that lead to the new one. Plus, it's a lot of fun. I would advise checking it out if you ever get the chance and find it cheap.

Show me more gameplay for GOW.
Show me a 5-6 minute gameplay of Spider-man.
Show me some gameplay for TLoU2 (if ready).
Give me a proper trailer for Uncharted Lost Legacy that mixes cinematics with gameplay.
Show me a little more from Days Gone.
Show me a little more from Detroit.
Maybe add in a few surprises for us like you always do Sony. *wink* *wink*

And finally, show me what the fudge has Sucker Punch been working on and when can I expect it.

Thank you very much.

I'm super excited for Matterfall, but not sure we'll get it at E3. Depends on how far in development it is, I guess. If it comes out next year, PSX is a more likely candidate.

I will say it again: A new Jak And Daxter announcement this year would have a big impact and move floors, if for E3 then for PSX.
Sony definitely needs to make PS4 more appealing to kids, especially with stronger competition from Nintendo and ongoing competition from smart devices. Otherwise they risk losing the mindshare of an entire generation. Knack 2 isn't going to cut it. Crash will help but really that's going to mostly appeal to nostalgia.

Well said. Eventhough Jak And Daxter is not very targetted to kids and can be adult at most of the times (well the cancelled reboot looked even more mature).

Powers at 2014 something had to have fallen through that entire segment was so bad.

that was rough. I remember reading the gaf thread about the conference, the hate for Shawn Layden (in his first appearence on a keynote) was brutal lol

Another sign of how things have changed on Sony's conferences, everybody loves the guy now

No. If SIE is funding and publishing the game, thats a SIE first party game, doesnt matter if its developed internally (by a studio they own) or externally (by a third party studio). Ratchet & Clank is a first party game developed by a third party.

The second party term its not something that really exist, people use for convenience.

I remember thinking the same thing. The segment itself didn't serve him well for a first impression since it went on and on and on. E3 2015 gave us the right amount of Shawn, and I love how he got into it in 2016 and even joked about not having a Crash t-shirt and everyone needing to walk out to an orchestra sometime in their lives. He seems like a cool guy to interview and meet now that we've seen him be himself and not be strapped to an overlong segment.

What do you think Sony's big surprise will be this year? We Shemnue and TLG in 2015, and Spiderman was a big surprise last year. I wonder if they have anything up their sleeve this year?

Of all the games that could surprise me I'm hoping for a new Socom or a remake of Socom 4. I think Sony would kill with a more authentic military tactical shooter 3rd person of course. I remember the first time using a headset or commands during the story and multiplayer. I don't want it to be multiplayer only though. I think we'll see it sooner rather than later.

I have no insider information

Who are the other guys?

Fuck I'm terrible but I'll give it a shot and others can correct me if I'm wrong but are those gentlemen Shinji Hashimoto, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Shuhei Yoshida are the three I believe I recognize. I'm not sure who the two people furthest left are exactly but they do look familiar.

I don't think Square's Hashimoto is in that picture, besides from Yosp and Miyazaki the other people are probably either Fromsoftware or Kadokawa people which is the massive corp that bought Fromsoftware.

Not sure if someone posted this before but, yall better buy WipEout Omega Collection if you want a new one beeing made (pretty obvious statement tho lol)

He does seem like a very cool guy, his interviews are great.

I've discussed this before on here but I'm nearly 100% sure the phrase "second party" was coined by an industry person.

I remember reading an interview in a magazine a long time ago. It was just before a console launch(the Dreamcast I think) and the guy being interviewed was explaining that they had partnered with a bunch of devs to make make games for the consoles launch. He said something along the lines of "we're calling these developers our second party developers". I guess he meant they got additional support and what not.

I've tried to find the quote but no luck, might only be in print. I guess if it was the Dreamcast than it as Peter Moore being interviewed.

Sorry for off topic....

Saw this last week but didn't think much of it beyond 'please just buy our game'. I might digitally double-dip for the dynamic theme.

Yoshida said the same thing at PSX. He mentioned that games like Parappa, Wipeout, and Patapon are being remastered to gauge what sort of interest there really is in those franchises. If it's high enough then they'll look into investing into new entries in the series.

I predict none will get sequels.

Nonsense. The terms first-, second-, and third-party have well-defined meanings. The platform owner is the first party. Any title developed under contract with them by someone else is second-party, and any title whose development takes place outside of a contractual arrangement is third-party.

The main reason there nothing is referred to as second-party any more is that games are such a huge collaborative exercise that most of them are actually a mix of first and second-party efforts, which we "promote" to first-party for simplicity's sake.

the second party term has ''well-defined'' meaning because people made up the term and the meaning lol

But there is no ''second party'' in this transaction. There is the publisher (the first party) and the external developer (the third party)

second party doesnt even logically make sense, just think about it

EDIT: We had this discussion a bunch of times in this thread, people with even more clear thoughts on the matter than me answered this situation even better, so lets not drag this here. Its not something that really matters

The Wipeout collection is a great deal in terms of dollars to content and I think the Playstation ecosystem is a lot healthier and the players more open to a wide variety of games this time around. I think it could sell pretty well especially with some sales down the road and garner enough interest to get a real deal sequel made. Not sure who I'd have develop it at this point but I don't think its such a far fetched pie in the sky goal.

Hell doesn't Crash come out in the digital top ten for a lot of different territories month after month? I think the interest there in returning to older franchises that aren't shooters or the more common genres.
