Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

Watched it yesterday.

Of all Marvel sequels, this is the best after Winter Soldier.

All main characters continue their arcs from the first movie, and are very different from the start of GOTG Vol.1.

The third act of the film is amazing, while the whole movie feels worse paced than the first.

Ego was a great Villain, and also a wasted one, he could've had so much potential in the Thanos movies...

And shit, all those cameos.

BTW. Where was Goldblum's character? He was on the credit rolls.

It's just sunk in that Mix Tape Vol 2 is Peter's Mum explaining the backstory with her and Ego to Peter... and dear God is that tear jerking given all these uplifting songs are essentially her depression that he left and she never knew why.

I watched this movie with my dad yesterday. I've been having some issues with him and it's been nasty in general with both my parents.

The only thing we do together nowadays is see Marvel movies at the cinema cause it's one of the things we share and one of the things he got me into as a kid.

Had a big fight with both my parents last week. Saw this and ended up singing Father and Son with my dad as the film finished.

long story short im biased cause it was one of the most meaningful theatre experiences ive had in the last few years but purely from a personal standpoint. Im grateful, that's all.

film's good, but for me at least unforgettable. that's cool.

The visuals in this movie were insane, that's some next gen movie making.

I enjoyed the movie, have a feeling I'll forget about it soon though.

Sounds like a great experience!

Wish I could have that, but my dad died 3 months ago ;_;

As much as I hate to say it, this is the kind of movie George Lucas was working towards with the prequel trilogy, filled with CGI but not distracting from the story

Saw it on Bank Holiday with my gf, came out really impressed, sure it's tropey and you can see most of the movie coming a mile off but it was FUN to watch, visually appealing and had really good use of music. We both agreed it got surprisingly emotional at the end too. It's really just a character piece so if you're coming into this expecting some serious story or grand expansion and moving forward of the MCU then yeah you'll be let down.

Man this was so good, lived up to my lofty expectations. I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to see it again, this time without the rampant censorship I had to endure. They cut the ever loving fuck out of this movie here (Middle East). The opening scene, several scenes during peter and ego talking to each other, the scene at the bar was almost incomprehensible it was so cut up, one of the post credit scenes, and anything with kissing or sex talk (the drax mocking Peter for his feelings scene for instance). Fucking hate that bullshit.

Drax definitely stole the movie for me. I could watch an entire movie of just him talking to people.

btw, surprised to see people saying Baby Groot was overused. Other than the intro, he had like 2 scenes for himself, and all was about working for the team, not random stuff unrelated. I think he was handled perfectly, he's still the one with the less screentime, and his scenes was him being useful (well, kinda useful lol).

Also, checked the OST tracklist (yeah I didn't till now)... that first track, I knew I heard it a lot when I was a kid when that played. Turn out it was ELO. My dad was fucking obsessed with ELO when I was a kid and tried his best to make me and my sister like it lol

Just watched
It was awesome! I loved it.
Two complaints
Mantis, she has no role in the film at all. Gema found out egos secret on her own. The whole "helping him" is stupid doesn't make sense and is unessary
Dear the destroyer needs to actually destroy something

Yeah, series is not for me at all. Disclaimer, I thought that first movie was just okay, nothing spectacular. I'm not the one who try to bash on films or series in general just after first one, so I said what the heck, I'll go to a screening of Vol. 2 with my friends and see how it goes.

Nope, did not enjoy it at all. For me it was bland and very uneven movie in terms of jokes, action and quality of CGI. I mean, I should laugh at jokes like "My turd is so hugeeee." or the one where the blue carpet got stuck? Did they try to target people under 12 with these jokes? Sure, some were funny, but the amount of them was far and few between.

Also, dramatic scenes like the one where Quill started crying when Yondu died in the space showed poor acting on Pratt's side. (btw. I loved him in more fun parts like the one in Parks and Rec.)

With that said, I am looking forward to other Marvel projects this year and in the future, too bad GotG is not for me. Glad so many people still enjoyed it.

Wow that's a beautiful story Salsa!

I did not watch ANY trailers for thsi movie before going in, and tbh I was surprised when I learned it was releasing so soon.

Having just got back from it, gotta say something about the movie did not sit well with me; I quite enjoyed the first movie more, but this movie, at its best, is friggin' awesome.

However I do have various gripes about it-
1- What's up with all the dick jokes early in the movie? Like you couldn't go 5 minutes without a sex or dick related joke or quip.
2- Drax was useless; he only exists for jokes. The movie has a good abundance of them and every time he is on screen, it's just to have a joke forced with him. He literally served no purpose in the movie at all.
3- Gamora's arc feels kind of forced, like the script had Rocket, Yondu and Peter's stuff written up, and then they didn't know what to do with Gamora so they shoehorned in her reconciliation with Nebula. I also think the romance scenes between her and Quill were pretty weak.

Those are the stuff I disliked off the top of my head, yet despite all that, it was a fun movie where it counted.

So...it was good. But this is a definite step down from the first one. In particular, whereas the first one I thought had pretty much perfect tonal balance (I consider it one of the all-time best superhero movies), this one is kind of all over the place. It shifts from very serious to very comedic on a dime, and there are some pacing issues with the dramatic stuff.

The stuff with the temptation of Star-Lord feels way too rushed, and then Ego shifts to monologuing about all his evil deeds for no reason whatsoever.

The comedic stuff was mostly good, though there are definitely jokes where it feels like they're being excessive with the jokes. Yondu's arc, after a slow start, was pretty effective, and I was overall quite happy with what they did with Gamora and Nebula.

Just got out of Vol 2. It's a bit rougher in places than others and the exposition hits a bit hard... BUT it's emotional core is far stronger than the original. Feels a ton more personal and in many ways a very different movie than the original.

This mirrors my feelings. First movie was just okay for me and Vol 2 was a step down from that. The comedy just didn't land with me. The funniest scenes (like the Drax scenes) were in the trailer. Well...the Mary Poppins gag was pretty good. A lot of the gags just go on way too long, like when baby Groot keeps bringing the wrong thing to Yondu. Actually almost all the scenes on that ship just didn't sit right with me. The escape was cool...but again...went on too long. This reminded me a lot of X-Men: Apocalypse in sensibility. Where it basically took all the cool scenes from the previous movie and made them longer.

Some positives:
- I appreciated that Nebula and Gamora actually got some character development
- I ABSOLUTELY loved the teenage Groot scene. It was short and sweet. Probably alone there but that was the funniest bit in the movie for me. And it was a stinger.
- Starlord unloading with his guns when he found out about his mom.
- I dug Ayesha and her group. I kinda wish they had gotten more to do. As far as villain motivations go, they actually made sense. They hired the Guardians, Rocket stole something, they want it back. They're just boujee golden space assholes.
- Some of the callbacks like the "this unspoken thing" were good

Final setpiece is just nonsense flying at the screen...like X-Men Apocalypse.

Best MCU movie by a long shot. Just pure delight, the best cameos, easily, and with a total consistent and unique voice all its own.

Absolutely brilliant. The latest Groot stage was the perfect touch and he doesn't show up like that in Infinity War I will march.

Who could possibly play Adam Warlock who isn't already in the MCU?? Chuck Hunnam???

Just got back from this, enjoyed it for the most part. I didn't care for the climax, they could've kept it smaller scale by just having the fact that Ego killed his mom as the driving force but they had to turn it into another "Blue laser in the sky" type of deal.

One aspect I find pretty odd is how much I enjoy the secondary characters more than the main crew. Nebula, Mantis, Yondu, the wonderful Sovereign , I found all of them more interesting or fun than the actual Guardians themselves(give or take a Drax). Drax is a delightful comic presence and Gamora is alright if a bit dull but the rest is just shrug worthy really. I mean this whole film was about Quill and his dad and yet the only real emotion I got out of it was from Yondu and Nebula. Heck, Drax stoically talking about his daughter while Mantis touches him and sobs hit harder than Peter finding out his dad killed his mom.

edit: Oh and I thought they went overkill with the music. None of it hit with any impact because it was used all over the place.

It was alright. Plot was thin. Villain was ridiculous. Humor worked sometimes and way overreached in others. Everything in this from the humor to the emotion to the action felt like it was dialed to 11 and never quite matched the perfect tonal pitch of the original. I can't say it was bad it was just ok. It has its moments but overall it's just kind of ehhhhhhh

The golden people pursuing the team the ENTIRE movie just because Raccoon stole some batteries? Really?

Also why does Yondu deserve such a fully formed arc? Since when did he become Quill's father figure?

Just got from the theater. Thought it was blast. I'm not sure if it's good as the first GOTG, but it does manage to be emotional & character driven*then that film was, even if the attempts at going from humor to be serious were a bit jarring. Ego was actually fairly*good & I got a kick out of the various after-credit scenes. Drax practically stole the show for me too. The only big issue is that I thought that Mantis was a bit underused, but otherwise it was quite good. Definitely gonna try to see this in the cinema again, if I get the chance.

And aside from the actual use of songs, but was it just me or did Tyler Bates actually compose some decent-ish music for this film? Good stuff!

Dammit, half way through the movie I was already imagining a Groot/Rocket/Yondu spin-off movie. :(

Nebula talking about what she would do with her share was about the first time I felt Gillan didn't feel out of place/awkward.

That reveal and Peter's reaction definitely hit hard.

The planet face looked cool.

Watchers!

Starhawk and Co!

Adam Warlock tease!

The first GotG made me cry at least 5 times. This one made me cry less times, but they were much more emotional this time around.

Better than the first one for me.

Just got back. I liked it, maybe not as much as the first but I think they definitely expanded on why people liked the first. They embraced it being a comedy-heavy series well enough, and a lot of the jokes were really good. Drax became a lot more enjoyable, but I feel like his character is kind of straying from what they set him up to be in the first--he wasn't as overly literal with phrases which lead to some good humor, but it could be explained as him having spent more time with the gang and adapting.

There were some jokes that were very funny, but overall pretty disappointed. About an hour in I actually wanted it to hurry up and be over.

Visually it looked great, but just had no interest in the plot. That's how I'm starting to feel about most Marvel movies.

Fuck..the wizardry in the beginning of the movie with Kurt Russell was bananas. Something tells me Rogue One will eventually get an update in the not so distant future..

Holy shit. Just got out and that was amazing. It's a right up there with Winter Soldier as far as I'm concerned for best Marvel movie. I think the part with
Mary Poppins
might be one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a movie.

Just got back from it and thought it was real good. Is it better than than the first? I'm not really sure, I could see arguments for why this one or the first is better, and I could understand both. Maybe in a few weeks when I've thought about it more and have had time to digest it, I might know which is better.

Volume 2's villain and emotional beats are better than 1's, though. Yondu's death was especially touching, as was Peter's speech at the end and then it was topped off with that beautiful funeral where all the Ravager's came to give him a send off. Great stuff there.
