Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

Kay, then I go with alternate facts.

No, seriously. Its a good way for an easy example how this works, even for people who dont give a shot about politics. But to be honest I am not here to discuss semantics. If you dont like it that I use this term, I am sorry.

How about you go with "incorrect information" instead of trying to frame it like people who think Fox owns the rights are trying to deceive people?

We are not friends, we are family.

Marvel going full Fast&Furious. I can dig it.

Visuals were beautiful, soundtrack was again amazing.

I didn't really like splitting up the characters all that much and the general story was lame as usual for Marvel movies but there is not enough cool stuff in here to make it a worthwhile watch.

Just saw the movie last night in IMAX 3D and I sure loved it. The post credit scenes were okay. However the very last one with Stan Lee and the Watchers was fantastic! I really liked the Drax and Mantis relationship and Drax was consistently hilarious.

Really loved the opening title sequence!

Just saw this. The overall plot was extremely forgettable, but the visuals, character interactions and soundtrack were fantastic.

Yondu and his arc was by far the best part of the movie, I wish they didn't kill him off, even if it made sense to close his arc that way.

Oh, best moment was when Quill reacts to Ego telling him he put the tumor on his mom's head, it was perfect (even if it was a bit of a retread of Tony+Winter Soldier in Civil War).

Man, there are some mixed opinions in this thread. Better than the 1st, worse than the 1st, just ok, average, disappointing to good, great and fantastic.

Oh well, can't wait to see it soon!

Loved the visuals on this one, but man, the soundtrack was disappointing after the awesome vol 1!
Agreed - I was really looking forward to hearing what tracks they would use this time but it definitely doesn't hit the heights of the first in that respect.

I have them pretty close personally, with the first maybe edging it a little (I really like them both). One thing I will say though, is see this at the cinema (I didn't for the first) and gorge on the visuals.

I thought it was really good.

The first one is a Top 10 movie of all time for me.

This one can't quite reach those same highs, but I may like it more on second viewing (I did with the original) - the movie is so fast and so full of one-liners and jokes, it may take a second time to slow it down.

I did think the middle of this film, when the group was split, slowed it down a lot and kind of didn't work as well.

A lot of the places didn't feel quite as grounded or real as they did in the first movie, and I think this one felt like it took a further step towards kind of silly / tongue-in-cheek-ness (I mean, let's be real, the first was silly with things like dancing to save the galaxy at the end, not a complaint, just a note)

Yondu's character developed a lot in the film in good ways and I was attached too.

I think ultimately I want a couple hours with this group, and they definitely deliver. Even if it's not quite the highs of GOTG1

Just got back from an early showing of this.

I liked it better than the first one for three main reasons. One, the villain was more interesting. I'm unlikely to forget this one, meanwhile I cant even remember what the first one looked like. Second, it hit more frequent emotional beats as far as I can remember the first one. Often in a cheesy way, but there it is. Three, the ending was more satisfying. (Also, I really like Nebula and I think she had more time in this one)

Not flawless, there was one chunk of the movie in particular that felt off, but overall a nice time.I went into this mostly blind so the Ego stuff was a big surprise.

Just saw it and I did not like it that much. It wasn't bad or anything, but there wasn't anything in there I found interesting. The jokes were more miss than hit (the absolute low point being the turd-joke), some really weird choices with camera angles (hey, let's focus on Baby Groot during this battle!) and a complete lack of tension because apparently no one in the Marvel Galaxy can shoot for shit except the Guardians (I like that they explained why the Sovereigns first shots all missed/grazed, but then she gave the shoot to kill order and they still missed 95% of the shots) and Drax is apparently the most durable being in the galaxy. Kurt was okay though.

And good lord, did the second half of the film get melodramatic as fuck. It reminded me of one of those 'emotional' episodes that sitcoms do. "We're not friends, we're family" "He may be your father, but he ain't your daddy" "I thought you already found your family" "It's that unspoken thing" *plays Father & Son*. Come the fuck on James Gunn, how many cliché's are you going to throw in there?

Comparing CW to GOTG 2 does not compute.

For all the plaudits RDJ gets for CW, I thought Drax was far better here. That quiet moment with Mantis is flat out good acting.

Far better? That seems like an exaggeration. He had a nice short scene where he had to sit and look sad, RDJ had to carry half of CW and his reaction to seeing his Mother's death was very well done.

Batista - whose filmography is basically composed of this film, the previous film, the bad James Bond film where he doesn't say anything, and a handful of direct-to-DVD b-movies - was the highlight for me.

Is it just me that finds Bradley Cooper's line readings really... off? The "Oh... yeah" in the first film always felt odd to me and, though I can't think of any specific examples, there were a few times in this film that I felt the same.

Then one of them might be good.

Fast Five is a god damn action masterpiece.

Well I found the "oh... yeah" lines in both movies odd as well but that's about it though, everything is fine I think.

A lot like Deadpool in that the structure gets a bit weird around the middle because it basically goes from the second act straight into the finale, but the humour is even better than the first film and the visuals are fantastic.

I've seen this twice now and will be off for a third showing soon and I prefer it to GOTG, the visuals, the humour, the characterisations, the villain all seem better and man Yondu's arc was amazing

I was just comparing the "you killed my mom" moment, since they are very similar.

Drax's best moment for me was a the end, when he finally tells Mantis she's beatiful, and then adds (on the inside) under his breath. That was hilarious.

After the mixed responses, I came into this with low expectations.. but I loved this movie. With the better villain and added emotional beats, I'd rank this equal with the first GOTG.

Also please tell me there's more to that Sylvester Stallone scene at the end? I have no idea who they are comic wise, but I'd love to see a film with them.

They are the original guardians of the galaxy, but I doubt there's anything more to a fun cameo to them.

I have a feeling like they are getting a setup for a larger role in the sequel.

Gunn is planning more with the OG Guardians.

"My plan is to see more of him," director James Gunn tells the Sun. "I'm not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we'll have to see about that, but it's our plan to see more of Stallone. Kevin (Feige) and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it's going to go. We plan to see the rest of them in the future."

The "them" Gunn is referring to is the original Guardians crew, which includes Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Krugarr (a CG character), the Miley Cyrus-voiced Mainframe, as well as Stallone's Starhawk and Michael Rosenbaum's Martinex. Michael Rooker's Yondu was also once part of this crew.

Initial thoughts after seeing it for the first time:

Comparing it to the original is kind of apples to oranges. They are two very different films with different objectives.

The characterization is really solid in this one. It's clearly the focus of the film and Gunn did a great job with it for the most part. Even though the correct revelations were reached, I felt some of them came about a bit clumsy and that's why the first half of the film didn't quite work as well as it could have.

This is the best villain Marvel has put to film by far. Clear objectives, powerful, interesting backstory, well fleshed-out, and a great performance. I heard some complaints that Kurt's performance was a bit tame, but I thought he was perfect. He completely lulls you into his trap and then when he finally explodes and shows his true form, it's terrifying. He is truly evil and his motives make complete sense considering what he is in nature. Ego was probably my favorite part of the movie.

I was frankly quite shocked at how well the emotional moments hit in this movie. Gunn impressed me like crazy in this regard.

I didn't find the movie funny. Most of the jokes fell short and some like the Taser-Face thing were way, way overplayed. I remember laughing at the original quite a bit, but this one just didn't work for me most of the time.

The last 20 minutes of the movie were unreal. I can't believe how crisp and chaotic the final battle looked and felt.

Overall I'm happy with the movie. I don't see this one making the same amount of money as the first because it didn't feel very rewatchable. I'm excited to see where they're going to be taking these characters in Infinity War and the third movie.

Also that first scene. Michael Douglas and RDJ looked great, but these guys seem to have the anti aging effect down to near perfection. I didn't get any sense of uncanny valley from it.

Not impressed at all by RDJ in CW to be honest. Dude is capable of so much more than that.

They are the original guardians of the galaxy, but I doubt there's anything more to a fun cameo to them.

They must be using that to gauge the reaction from the audience. If there's great reception I think they will greenlight a movie based on them.

I doubt audience reaction matters much at this point. The .05% of people who give a shit are the same ones who know what's in the cocoon at the end.

Just saw it. Liked it a lot. Not as much as the first one, kinda missed the more adventurous vibe of the first one, with going to more diverse planets and stuff.

This one doubles down on jokes and also emotional moments, it felt fine to me. Just wish the middle ground had a lil more action, when they split only one team has action scenes, when the other is just chilling around.

Drax was hilarious and Yondu arc was awesome.
