Not liking the spoiler at all. If anything it should be

Beerus recalls how strong Frieza is, and is forcing him on the team. It's not in the gang's decision, but Beerus threatening both Goku and Frieza to work together or be destroyed, dooming all. It takes it out of Goku's hands then, and basically puts it on par with Piccolo and Goku's team up, or Vegeta and Goku. Where there is a greater force, forcing them together.

tbh I'm surprised by the strong feelings many of you have towards the spoiler.

I mean, I'm not too hot on it, but I can't see how can it "ruin the arc" for anyone, especially if you liked the arc till this point.

I actually think that depends on the execution, it can work perfectly and bring an interesting dynamic to the arc.

- Revival F always felt irrelevant, if fixes that.

- It reinforces the "evil Goku" plot point, leading to potentially good character development for him by the end of the arc. It also adds to the conflict with the pride troopers.

- It brings an interesting dynamic to the party, resembling that of Vegita in both Namek and the Androids sagas.

- I don't think they're going for a Freeza redemption arc with that. He's beyond redemption and Toriyama proved himself to understand that very well in Revival F. He will betray them somehow along the line, making this one of Goku's biggest mistakes and adding an additional layer of conflict to the tournament.

The only thing that makes me not so excited about the idea is that Revival F was awful and Freeza feels too played out by this point, also that I don't think Super's writers are competent enough to pull this off to its full potential. Other than that, it could be great.

I think it's hilarious that
when Freeza is reintroduced in the Japanese version the English dub will be early in the F arc. I imagine we'll be in the tournament when the dub of the infamous episode 24 airs too.

Why? They were all designed by Toriyama IIRC.

I want Super to be it's own thing that at least tries to stay original and self contained from any of the other non canon DB media that already exists.

That and I just really dislike the little animated shorts I've seen from Heroes/Xenoverse/Whatever involving those other characters. They always look so fucking corny to me. I'm sure they could make them "work" in Super but I don't like the idea of them being there for these reasons, and I'd much rather it stay original when it comes to that aspect.

The biggest problem is Buu being replaced, especially after that slim Buu teasing a few episodes ago, plus it's the 3rd time Buu gets left out because of sleeping...

You say that as if what is going down is wildly out of character for Goku.
I can't see Goku not liking the idea of them working together at this point if Freiza would actually agree to cooperate.

Buu had his fight, unlike the previous tournament where he was out without lifting a finger

I think what makes or breaks this decision is the payoff.
Will something come out of this, was there a long term reason for this.

Definitely.

This is how I kinda hope it goes:

Dragon Ball has a history of former villains teaming up with the good guys.

Piccolo joins the good guys and tearfully sacrifices himself for Gohan, solidifying his good guy-ness.

Vegeta joins the good guys on Namek and tearfully sacrifices himself fighting Freeza. Then he seemingly turns evil again... only for it to all be a ruse and once again tearfully sacrifices himself, solidifying his good guy-ness.

I think Freeza needs that moment. Of course it's going to be a lot harder to buy considering his history in the franchise compared to Piccolo or Vegeta, but that's the fun of writing the show, isn't it?

I think the first step towards making Freeza even remotely sympathetic comes with him telling Vegeta and Goku that Beerus basically pressured him into destroying Planet Vegeta. Takes some of the heat off Freeza at the start. Then, Freeza has to make some kind of deal that keeps him alive/out of the hell that is a cocoon while stuffed animals play instruments.

Over the course of this tournament, Freeza should bond with the characters the same way Vegeta and Piccolo did when first starting with the group... awkwardly at best. No one trusts him, and rightfully so.

After winning the tournament, Freeza impresses the rest of the crew with his abilities. Goku's love for a good sparring partner clouds his judgement and he is the one to welcome Freeza to Earth if Freeza ever wants to train should another greater threat ever appear. Freeza accepts, and basically becomes a regular, recurring character at this point.

Now we go a bit long term here.

In the next arc, Freeza should be killed while sacrificing himself for one of the good guys. Maybe Bra or Pan, maybe even Trunks which would be pretty awesome and symbolic. This changes everyone's minds about Freeza... no one trusted him but for him to sacrifice himself for Vegeta's son or daughter, he must have really changed. Just like Piccolo and Vegeta before him.

At the end of the arc, by golly Goku is such a nice guy that he wishes everyone who died back from the dead, including Freeza. Freeza is shocked, but thankful.

This is where we deviate from the formula.

At some point, when no one expects it, Freeza turns on everyone. Maybe he kills Trunks, or Vegeta. It's revealed that the entire time he's been biding his time and training with the Saiyans to become as powerful as possible. He knew that sacrificing himself would be the ultimate act to get them on his side, and he know they had a history of wishing back their friends from the dead with the Dragon Balls. Hook, line and sinker.

Freeza is the enemy that, despite history, doesn't ultimately become a good guy. He tricks everyone and is the ultimate bad guy to the very end.

that was long

I miss DBZ Goku. Was still reckless but he matured and chilled out. DB Super though, don't know what the shit happened. Maybe he will get back to that he was eventually.

To be honest with you, I'm not the biggest Buu fan, but keep in mind that he already had a great fight that he won (bonus: animated by Tate), so knowing Dragon Ball,
he would've probably been the first one losing in the tournament. It's better for him that he left on a high note :p.

Buu had his fight, unlike the previous tournament where he was out without lifting a finger
And Frieza had his own full arc in Super, and a movie.
The problem is that they teased slim Buu, they teased more than just the exhibition match for Buu. The possibility of a replacement wouldn't have been so bad if there was no slim Buu teasing, and nothing showing Buu being excited for the tournament.

They've pretty much ignored any maturity Goku gained in DBZ with Super. He's worse than kid Goku in DB when it comes to maturity.

Perfect example of flanderization.

Freeza
becoming Pan's Piccolo would be such a great long troll I'd be all up on this

Sometimes it feels like they just skimmed through the first 2 arcs in Dragon Ball when preparing for Super. I feel that Goku was more mature than now during the tournament when Tenshinhan was introduced.
Super's manga may be screwing up in a few things recently, but Goku's characterization is alot better there.

You can even have a really cool, strangely heartfelt moment where
everyone fucking hates Freeza because he's an evil asshole, but Pan's just a lil baby who don't know any better and smiles at Freeza and laughs and poops

awwwww

They're going to start the tournament and Gohan will have this master plan for them all to adhere to, and then
Freeza will immediately break ranks and start brutally kicking the shit out of one of the weaker universes to the horror of all of the other fighters who start saying that Universe 7 is even more fucked up than they heard.

then Goku just shrugs "sorry Gohan" and joins in the carnage

Okay, I want this. Could cripple them like he likes to do.

Just watched the latest episode.

I love the aesthetic at Tenshinhan's dojo. One of the best looking locations in the entire series.

Because he doesn't exist.
Incoming U6 Namekian blatantly inspired by Pikkon.

toyotaro did not bring back Pikkon as a GoD

maybe Toriyama notices when Toyotaro is trying to bring back stuff from filler, but somehow the robot from GT slipped through

They brought him back instead of the GOAT AKA BROLY THE LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN?

I'd be okay with that, I like Pikkon's look.
Wait. Was he an anime-only creation?

Edit: Nope. Guess not.

He was filler.

I think he looks more like Chrono Trigger's Robo with two arms, rather than an arm cannon (which did happen for some animations).

After last week's episode
I'd prefer Roshi to stay, by far. Tien ain't shit.

He supposedly will use various techniques next week, although getting one shotted in his recruitment episode was pretty bad.
