Yeah, it's not out of character at all. Goku was willing spare Frieza's life twice already. If anyone is willing to fight with Frieza, it's Goku. Hell, I bet he's going to enjoy it!

Kid Goku didn't even have the fight mania trait though. That was really highlighted for the first time in the 23rd Budokai.
I think the main issue with Super Goku is how they often play him as dumb, rather than just going with a straight characterization of his love for fighting. However, I don't think it has happened often this arc. He just seems uncaring, which is pretty in line with letting villains like Piccolo, Vegeta and Freeza go just to fight against them later, not hoping for their redemption or anything like that. If you think about it, it was basically an "out of sight, out of mind" attitude. He'd obviously stop them if they attacked people right in front of him, but he was letting them go in spite of that bringing danger to other people he wouldn't see.

I feel like Goku has always been like this, but in Super he hides it less. In Z he wanted to fight them, but he tried to disguise that as being his main reason, by saying it's the right thing to do.

Goku is going to be banished by Beerus after this arc. Will follow his odyssey throughout the universe.
It still amazes me how people whitewash what Goku did I Z. Although, I think most of it has to do since you know everything works out, no blood no foul.
Goku giving Cell the senzu still gets me.
Pretty much how it goes for a lot of shounen protagonists I'm guessing (Looking at you Luffy)

Who knows what it might have, maybe it'll have more stuff of fighters from other universes. There's also Vegeta's training which they may or may not show some of.
Not sure why people think the dub will change anything. Even in Z they didn't whitewash Goku giving Cell a Senzu or him threatening to blow the Supreme Kai's head off.

Though from what I've seen of the dub, they've done a good job with Goku, and it seems like they'll continue this trend, so there should be no worry.
