Gohan asked Goku to go all out.. but the thing is, this goes both ways. Something people are forgetting.

Gohan was asking for Goku's full power before even SSB. Goku then transformed, respecting his sons wishes not to hold back [like just with the Kaioken] and thus definitely trying with SSB, and his facial expressions and posture definitely reflected that. He was clearly serious.

Wouldn't say he went all out [as SSB], but I don't think SSB Goku wasn't as suppressed against Gohan as he was against 17.

Lmao, while I like the color changing thing, the throw and impact are weak as fuck.
Seems like it was just meant to throw up dust.

Also base Gohan equals SSJ2 Goku and Ultimate Gohan approaches SSJB Goku. I bet be could beat SSJB Vegeta handily.

If Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta worked together they could probably kill Beerus.

But Goku didn't really attack Gohan as a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan unlike with 17, even if he was suppressed. He went to his god form, Gohan got some hits on him, and then he went Kaioken.

Seems like it was just meant to throw up dust.

Base form Goku was equal with base form Gohan. It was Ultimate that was even or stronger than Super Saiyan 2 Goku.

I was happy that Gohan is able to exchange blows with Goku being serious. He doesnt need to surpass him now, but there future is bright

Vegeta's knowing smirk is lovely.

I still think they are far away. They've improved but nothing shown has indicated they are near Beerus when he's serious.

Man. Tien. Don't even know what to say.

Before Goku showed up he was doing so well too. Dude had his own dojo, respect of his students, and a peace of mind. And then in just one episode Goku bankrupts him by putting all of his food on Tien's 's tab and Gohan beats the shit of out of him. Through the whole episode Tien looked shell shocked. At this pace before they leave for the tournament I'm expecting Vegeta to give Tien's forehead eye the pinkeye and kick him out team shouting "you just got saiyan swerved!"

no wonder Tien likes to disappear for years at a time, these people are going to break him

Edit^ He was.

Id say before this arc he was doing so well. He was the only human that got to even attempt to fight Beerus, and he had some good action in RoF. I had the highest hopes until now.

At least it settles the strongest human thing

Yep. Roshi.

All those people who said Tien was stronger.

Apologize.

He wasn't the one that had problems with Freeza's soldiers in RoF and had to be rescued by Gohan, and in Super itself he had taken a blast that also took out Piccolo and 18 back in the BoGs arc. There was nothing before this arc indicating that Kuririn was stronger aside from that famous description.

Still, even placing the Kuririn comparisons aside, his handling here is just... "why?" I thought Tenshinhan getting a cut in during the battle part of the opening guaranteed he'd get some focus, but it seems like the staff doesn't care about him at all. Not only he was portrayed as weak, they already fell back to the Kikoho again (which makes no sense considering how Tenshinhan was talking about how they shouldn't fight that seriously since the actual tournament was starting soon - I guess this episode's writer doesn't even know what the Kikoho is supposed to be), he was portrayed as a lame worrywart and he also had to be guided by Goku during both battles in this arc. It's not like he was shown to be weak but with some other usefulness. So, far they haven't tried to present him as a valid team member at all.

And the worst part is that in-universe, no one seems to be questioning it. Goku recruited him without hesitation and nothing was said regarding his bad performance in this episode's battle, so it really seems like they'll just go ahead like this.

Oh how the mighty have fallen

Literally, Gohan sent Tien flying

Really great episode, even though it's really sudden to have Gohan get on this level of power I enjoyed this episode a ton. Piccolo's a miracle worker.
And a good dad

They need to go ahead and make Pikkon a canon character and recruit him instead of Tien, Roshi or Krillin. I guess Krillin works well in tandem with 18 so he likely wouldn't be replaced. If Pikkon was present and kept growing at the same level as everyone else, Universe 7 would be terrifying. I'd recruit Freeza and Cell as well to replace Roshi and Krillin in a perfect world.

If Dragon Ball Heroes is anything to go by Pikkon actually becomes the West Kai's assistant, so as a "god" he might not be eligible for fighting in this tournament.

either him or Yamcha.

People keep forgetting that not everyone is going to be on Goku's level in this fight. I don't doubt Tien will get a lot of shine in the actual fight while Goku and others handle stronger opponents. It's just that Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are damn monsters. People shouldn't be judged to harshly when compared to them. Now the difference is that Tien is actually serious, kept training, and is far more skilled then Yamcha ever was. Man held Cell at bay for a while and that will continue to keep Tien in good standing in my mind. However I do need another kick ass moment like that with him.

Is Tien going Goro from Mortal Kombat another piece of "You should have watched Dragon Ball" insider knowledge?

Watch Dragon Ball!!! God damn people srsly :D DB > DBZ

Glad we Germans went the right way without butchering DBZ like America. Dragon Ball aired every afternoon and after 2-3 years when DBZ started it aired every evening two episodes till the end. We even got a selfmade Cell Games movie which was essentially the whole Cell Games cut to movie length. We did DB Kai before Kai. Fuck the American adaption which does not have the Dragon Ball soul.

I'm glad you don't write the show!

The problem is, given past dragonball logic, anyone not on or near gokus level should be bodied in seconds, ala Goku arriving on to Namek and making fools out of the Ginyu force, or Goku arriving and doing the same to Nappa, Future Trunks to Robo Frieza/Cold, Gero to Yamcha (everybody to Yamcha) and so on.

I don't think ultimate gohan could beat blue goku in a long battle but it's great that he is up to power again and it's not a trunks super saiyan rage boost either.

Yeah, and I'm really interested in seeing what he meant by going a different route than Goku. I hope it amounts to something in the end.

I didn't understand Gohan's explanation of not going SSJ but rather being in his ultimate form. He said something about finding his own transformation. He already has it though (ultimate), is he implying he wants to find a new transformation based on the ultimate power-up?

For all the ganging up on Tien, Piccolo didn't do a single thing in the fight either beyond releasing a large aura and I think he tried to hit Goku with some sort of ki blast. That's not much. But now all of a sudden everyone wants to dog pile Tien

Either that or he's trying to reach a level with Ultimate that has not been seen, even by SSJB Goku

I really want to see Radditz and Bardock again. Also a seen with Goku meeting Gine could be cool.

May as well with all this
freiza
foolishness.

All those people who said Tien was stronger.

Apologize.

He attacked Beerus with Krillin's wife as Krillin did nothing. He has some great shots of fighting Frieza's soldiers in RoF. He knocked away a blast from Buu, Krillin did nothing in that arc. He had the fan-favorite moment stalling Cell and jumped into a skirmish with 17 and 18. Krillin stayed out of that skirmish. Krillin did nothing to Cell. It's just a filler movie, but Tien even held his own decently in a fight against Trunks until Trunks went SSJ. Toriyama says Krillin is the strongest human and Krillin shined in his recruitment episodes while Tien was trashed. Yes, now, it is easy to say Krillin is the strongest human and I'll concede to that. But before this recent stuff in Super, it never felt like Krillin was portrayed as being stronger than Tien. You can't fault people for feeling like Tien was stronger before now. There was ample evidence to argue Tien was stronger. Not so much anymore, unfortunately

Good episode. I was unerwhelmed by Gohan's performance. Still a beast but 17 had a much better showing. I expected more from Gohan against SS2 Goku. Poor Tien! :( I chuckled at him getting punked by Roshi but this was sad.

To me Gohan was after Goku going full power.. vs SSJ2 he took a lot of hits without any real damage... then when he hits Goku and Goku said "Not yet" Gohan did power up again, hit Goku hard and asked his father to be serious... Took some hits.. Goku went Blue... Gohan said "See my full strength" Landed it a hit on Blue " Gohan "at my full strength" Goku used Kaioken after..

So Gohan hits Mystic full power, there at that moment he reached the limit of that form.. imo

Honestly, I think Tenshinhan not being allowed to do anything was more Goku's fault than anything. Goku clearly told Tenshinhan that he would deal with Gohan, but still allowed Gohan to attack Tenshinhan. If Goku had done his part, Tenshinhan would've handled Piccolo the same way he did Cell.

Also, interesting that Roshi told Goku he would teach him some more of his techniques. I guess they're going to have Goku use Bankoku Bikkuri Shō?

Yeah its clear that Gohan wasn't at full power vs the SS2. He started smashing Goku and kept going until Goku hit blue then blows were traded equally and finally go bodied by kaio-ken.

Very true and Tien got right back up after that hit from Gohan and seemed fine. Sometimes the overreactions to "characters totally jobbing" and "being new Yamchas" can be a bit premature, IMO. We have a long tournament arc ahead of us. I think Tien will get some decent fighting in. And for the second strongest human, that's not bad.

Lets not forget that was base form Gohan too. But yeah it clearly shows Goku's flaws leaving Tien open to Gohan's attack. This has been a recurring theme with Goku and I can't help but think its a foreshadowing for whats to come. Would be extremely interesting to see Goku sidelined early due to not understanding team work.
