So with stock speeds it shouldn't be any issues? I don't overclock anyway.
Previously, Gigabyte has been great for me, both my 780ti and 980ti has been extremely stable. When people had issues with NMS crashing I played for over 100 hours before my first crash.
But generally speaking, how is MSI? Never had one of their GPUs. Is the quality good and no driver issues etc?

Just wanted to say my FTW3 is running really well. Default fan curve and it's been silent (for me) and run cool. But I've only played overwatch, battlegrounds and battlefield so far. Also, I have an x34 and upgraded from a 980i ti. Before, I could barely get ~50 (lots of drops into 40's) on Max settings for BF1 (have an i75820k), now it's ~80-100. Overwatch I can play at ultra with no compromise; previously I turned it down to a hybrid of high/medium so that it doesn't drop below 100. Just adding my experience for those who may be looking to jump from a 980ti and are on 1440p. It's also more quiet and cool than my 980ti was

I have the same res monitor as you (3440x1440) and my 980TI keeps BF1 locked to 60 fps 95% of the time. The only map I tend to drop on is the new Operation Metro map in that DLC. Gets down to 52ish when there's a lot of smoke during clusterfuck battles. Then again I'm running with a 1500mhz overclock and a 7700k.
Getting a 1080Ti for me is more about the 100hz monitor I'm planning to get as my next upgrade. Will be downsampling in the meantime

To be fair, it might have performed better and the one game I played before swapping the cards was just kind of by chance. Thinking about it, I do remember at launch playing on the highest settings and being fine with it, which means it was likely ~60. But it's definitely at ~90-100 now...which is cool. I really want to get a 144hz monitor, just don't know whether I wanna go with 1080 or 1440p to have next to my x34.
I finally received my 3440x1440 120Hz monitor, and after playing around with some games (Witcher 3, Doom, Andromeda) I decided to keep my MSI Gaming 980 Ti and wait for Volta.
I'm getting 90+ FPS in Doom, and 60+ in W3 and Andromeda. With G-Sync I see no reason to upgrade for now.

I haven't tried 4k on it. I took it out after initial testing at 1440p.
I think I might try my FTW3 again. There's no way it should be as loud as it is. I can hear it from the around the corner in the hallway when it was on.

Yea, I'm not sure what I'll do atm.. What I do know is Newegg return shipping and RMA process is godawful slow, it's so slow I can't stand doing an RMA with them.

It'll be close, imho a 750 is what I've always felt was the minimal psu to have, but that's just me. It'd step up tho.
Actually, the SC Black Edition is 250W (was looking at the wrong one). So maybe not as bad as I thought?

You should definitely step up, you will get a gpu that is like 25-30% faster for $40 plus shipping. I just did the same thing from my FTW2, I waited since I did not want a FE.
I've had no problems running my Gaming X 1080 Ti on a 650W SFX PSU. This is paired with a 6700k.

Luckily I'm local to Newegg so I get things done within 1 day. I can order something the night before and get it shipped to me by the next afternoon for free.

Under 50C gaming is great. You should flash a BIOS from one of the custom boards to raise the TDP limit of FE.
Sadly EK has delayed their blocks for the Aorus to the end of the month :-\
Sure, no problem. Even if you don't overclock, I would still recommend installing Afterburner so you can set a custom fan curve. I found that these cards works best when kept under 70C (or 60C, even).
I'm using Gigabyte G1 980s in my current rig, and yeah, they are solid. They were not as silent as these new Aoruses, but I can't fault their performance.

Yeah that's the thing with the new Gigabyte Aorus, they seem to be really silent. That's super important for me. FTW3 seems great too because they run so cool but I think Gaming X and Aorus Xtreme are the most interesting ones right now.

I'm running an OC'd i7-4790k + 1080ti FE (each with its own AIO water cooler), 4 SSDs, a fair amount of USB devices, Vive headset, etc. on a 650W Seasonic 80 PLUS Gold PSU. No issues.

Pulled the trigger on the SC2 Hybrid in stock on Newegg. Looks like it gets here Wednesday. Hoping for the best. Was tempted by the Zotac Amp Extreme but figured AIO for fifty bucks was a good deal.
Just read through it today. Whole bunch of meh. From what I can tell if you have a lucky chip (average chips are already on the edge), on water or sub ambient, you'll be able to push it a little bit more... but otherwise you need sub zero to see any real gains. With that said, locking voltage (not increasing) will at least keep your clocks constant which may help stuttering in some titles.
HOF or KPE with a specific bios may fair better but I don't see 2200Mhz as a possibility for <99% of >0c cards.

Well, I got my second Aorus Extreme on Friday. The good news is that this one seems much better behaved, it actually completed a run of FFXIV Stormblood Benchmark without shitting itself like the first one! So there's that I guess. I'll keep trying to benchmark and test it's stability but so far so good. Fingers crossed...

My Zotac Amp Extreme came today right as I was leaving for work, will have to install it later once I get home. I'm really hoping it'll fit my Define C case, not looking forward to returning if it doesn't. Don't really know what I'd get in that case, either the MSI or Aorus I guess, but the former is red and wouldn't match my build while the later seems to have some issues according to what I've read.

So.... I got the FTW3. Lordy is this thing hard to keep cool. Running Unigine Heaven benchmark for a while now and....
Not sure I just have really bad case airflow or what (never really had a problem with my G1 Gaming 980TI). This is only with a slight boost in the memory clock. The power temp is always super high. Fans spinning loud as fuck. I don't know what a good temp is for the power\memory at all but I figured what's hot for the GPU is hot for the memory\power. Don't know. I never had to worry about that before.

Funny I was just going to come in here to say how happy I am with the temps on the MSI. I haven't touched any settings beyond the fan curve, which I adjusted only ever so slightly, and haven't been able to get it above 65 degrees. Running about 5 degrees cooler then the 1080 FTW I had.

You probably don't have the hassle of dealing with 3 temperatures. If I only look at the GPU temps, I can't get it over 70 degrees while keeping the fans completely silent. But the power temp gets much hotter and that fan cranks up to 100%.
Problem is I don't really know what temps I should be targeting for power\memory. There's no manual for this shit.

Sub 70C at full load is perfectly fine and normal temperature, and the power DWMs are designed to withstand 100+C temps extensively, nothing to worry about. Don't expect low temperatures on these flagship cards unless you are running water. Plus in average gaming scenarios power usage will be a lot less extreme, the temperatures will usually be a step lower than these stress test/benchmarks.

GPU temp is fine. No issues there.
It's the power and memory I get concerned about. If what you say is true then I can be a little more relaxed about it and just have the fans sync the GPU fan speed. That will keep it relatively silent.
Another issue is my case airflow. It gets super hot in there. I have the NXZT H440 with stock fans. 3 120mm intakes in the front and 1 rear 140mm exhaust fan in the back. I have a Kraken X52 AIO for the CPU, so 2 fans on the radiator there (also stock).
If I take the door off my case and just blow a fan in there, the temps will all drop a good 5 degrees. Seems like I have some work to do in that department....
I received my EVGA 1080 TI SC2 this past Friday. It's been such an incredible upgrade from my old 770 "Classified" 4GB, also from EVGA.
I know a lot of people kind of crap on the idea of the TI being overkill for 1080p but at 144Hz, it's been incredible. I'm able to get those framerates at High/Ultra settings and often with DSR enabled to some degree. Such a major difference from having to run some modern games on low/medium to maintain even 60fps.

Well, gotta say that just an hour later and I'm a bit unsure about the Amp Extreme. It's a lot louder than I expected by default, and while I was able to set a custom fan curve using its software it seems to like to randomly rev up to 100% fan speed and I have no idea what's causing it. Also is hotter than I expected, though I may just need to turn up my case fan speed. If it keeps doing the fan thing I may have to return it, sacrifice my computer's aesthetics and get the MSI...

I've got the min version of that case. I use slim fans, they're half the depth of normal fans providing you with more room for the GPU and the HDD bay in the lower part of the case.

Not needed here, fit the card just fine, but... Dunno if I'm gonna be keeping it. I can confirm that whenever the fans turn on from being off at idle they rev up to 100% before dropping back down. Is this something every card does? It's my first graphics card that turns the fans off at idle... For some reason I can't even set them not to turn off when using Zotac's software, and trying out Afterburner the fan control didn't really seem to work with it.
I got this card in particular because people agreed it was one of the more silent 1080 Ti's, but even though I can set a pretty quiet manual fan curve that burst of 100% fan whenever I start a game or sometimes even at random just kills it.
Oh, I figured out why manual fan curves kept stopping the fan anyway, there's a pretty hidden setting in Firestorm that forces the fans to stop at idle. Disabling it keeps the fans spinning.
And yeah, at least this quick first test starting up Prey, it didn't do the rev up to full thing. Fans at 30% are quiet enough at idle for me anyway so this looks to be good for me now.

79C is fine for power. Strix OC tend to hit ~100C on the power converters without any overclock for example.

Yep, I actually don't know why I dealt with Newegg again because I had sworn them off a few gpus ago because their rma is just atrocious. And heaven forbid you head into a weekend. I sent my Aorus back on the 10th, it's just now out for delivery and then the refund process I'm sure will be another 2 or 3 days. I fucking hate Newegg anymore, just hate them. I only jumped in because evga and their month long wait, but it once again reminds me to just not even bother with Newegg anymore especially when amazon is so fast and quick.

100% fan speed required to keep it there though? That's the loudest sound I've ever heard from something inside of a PC.
Is 100c normal\acceptable though for power temps? The folks on the EVGA forums are suggesting that power\memory should be within 5 degrees of the GPU temps on this card and that mine might be defective.
I need to give the card another night of testing before deciding what to do.
I don't know how they stay competitive with Amazon. That turnaround time for an RMA would be enough for me to swear them off forever. I've never had to deal with their returns process before. I lucked out on several builds in the past I guess.

Yea I don't know either, my last major dealing with them it was just a fiasco tryin to get the right gpu and it was just a long arduous process where nothing seemed to move with any type of quickness at all. Happened with a monitor order as well, they do everything else decent but I swore off big ticket items a bit back and caved this one time but this reminds me why I said I wouldn't.
It's just painstakingly slow
And I'm probably going strix once i get my Aorus money back. Evga sort of let me down here with this, it performs decent but Temps are just ok and fan noise sucks.
