Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

I feel like this always happens.

I go dark for a livestream, watch the whole thing beginning to end, and think "man, that was all awesome" and then come on GAF and everyone's like "blah, this game is gonna be such garbage!"

Like, this looks like what D1 *should* have been, and the most realized vision of the game to date. I'm fucking hyped as shit for this, especially considering how I usually play games like this. That solo player looking to join a group of people for a raid? That matchmaking mode was fucking *designed* for me.

A little worried after the reveal. They said A new strike and A new raid. Making me wonder if we'll only get one of each for the first 6 months or so. Hoping they have more strikes than that. But if they do, will they just be updated versions of the old content?

And are there only 1 super per class now? That would be a bit disappointing. D1 had 2 supers per class at launch. Hoping to find out more on that.

Also, no new enemy types revealed which is kinda bummer. But I know they don't want to spoil everything. Hoping for more at E3.

Super excited about the exploration and adventures though.

If you want to wander around an empty open world and walk to a mountain, go play zelda.

Destiny is a shooter, fans want epic action and lots of enemies, new raids, new powers. We got that. Looks great.

I'm not spending $90 on a game with completely barren environments that they never did anything with. The open worlds were such a waste as you couldn't interact with other players. It felt like they got partway through making an MMO, got too lazy, and just left in the netcode of people able to shoot the same things.

Massive 'meh' from me so far.

Like really? No vehicles, no crazy mp game modes, no proper flying, no sparrow updates, didn't look like any reeeeally authored mission stuff, no new races, no nothing.

And launching with one raid?

If the best thing from the reveal was a map and a decent fast travel system, that's not saying much.

They are gonna save stuff for future events

Holy shit it's like you want everything today, we got till September
E3 and Gamescon are before this releases

Bungie Day too, Beta will show what's in store for us

They gave us an introduction, I think it was a good step in the right direction

Also how many fucking Raids do people want?
1 is good enough to start with, then those expansions will literally expand on the base game adding more stuff!

Im really not sure what expansions youre getting that give you huge new land masses to discover, raids, abilities, a shit ton of new weapons and gear, story modes, adventures, LFG components, new strikes, open world exploration, dungeons, bosses, new game modes for pvp, new pvp maps, and more. Not to mention stuff they havent revealed yet.

If that sounds like a 15 dollar DLC to you... Im really not sure what to say.

You just described literally every World of Warcraft expansion.

I get people are happy because this is all new but I guess I honestly thought people were expecting more out a sequel. Seeing people cheer on things like Clans which should have been in the first game or one of its many many expansions just doesn't make any sense to me. I mean yeah fine its being added but is that really something to cheer for? Same for matchmaking.

After how many posts, threads, and news articles about how Destiny had all these issues and thus far were getting the same game yet again with the same amount of content that Destiny 1 launched with (new story and stuff sure) and stuff like PVP ends up being downgraded to 4v4. None of that is at all exciting to me.

Destiny is just an odd series for me as I don't understand why people stuck with the first one for so long and loved it enough to get hyped for the second one with what they've announced here. The first game was hyped up beyond belief (and I was apart of that too, I loved the alpha and beta!) but was massively lacking content at launch with god awful ways of giving players loot and while I know they eventually went around to fixing some of that it still wasn't a good game and didn't feel like it had anywhere near enough content to justify its 60$ price tag or the 40$ for the following expansions or anything after that.

It's just weird to me because I see so many people hating on games with season passes and games lacking content at launch and rightfully so but Destiny just seems to get a pass from some people, I don't get it.

IDK maybe Destiny 2 will surprise me but I'm not buying into any kind of hype this game has, hype is bad for games like this that are clearly being designed with as minimal content as they can away with at launch so they can sell more content back to players, it just feels very scummy to me but if thats okay with the people who enjoy the game I guess its fine for them just not something I want to get behind.
It was proven that Bungie used several psychological manipulations and tricks to keep players coming back.

Considering I loved Destiny 1, I have no reason to believe I wouldn't enjoy the sequel.

That being said, while I will enjoy all those quality of life improvements, those were kind of necessary for a modern game.

I was also a little underwhelmed with enemies and locations, which - at least on first glance - didn't seem to differentiate themselves much from what we had previously. It would appear we will still kill the same enemy faction, with the same enemy design and mostly very similar environments and really familiar sub classes.

I really hope they just held back in order to reveal more adventures stuff closer to release.

Be that as it may, the gameplay still looks fantastic, and the presentation (cut scenes, content types, etc...) seems to borrow heavily from TTK, which is a good thing in my book.

Expected more than the same number of planets as last time.

Expected a true open world with quest givers scattered about...

Expected a more dramatic difference in visuals (either 60 fps or a big improvement at 30 fps)

One raid?

Here's hoping Destiny 2 doesn't have the content issues the first game had at launch. :(

Not starting an argument here, I just saw things differently.

4 planets - yeah maybe hoping for more, but they specifically said that one was around twice the size of any other space they had made before.

Open world with quest givers - they specifically said that is there. Adventures they called them.

Graphical difference- to me it looked way better. Much more going on as well with explosions, dynamic scenery. I guess this is subjective to everyone.

One raid- wouldn't have expected different. The community needs to be focused on one at a time in my opinion. Once the secrets are found, hard mode is easy mode, first expansion drops and next raid cycle starts.

Can't believe people think there will only be one new strike.

Guided Games is exactly what the game needed.

D2 looks like D1 but prettier with refinements and proper social tools. The story stuff looks like an absolute shambles, the way the devs speak about it made me cringe a little, but Bungie story is always cheesy so I don't mind. I just want the campaign to be fun.

I'm somewhat baffled by the response of people being surprised by this looking like a sequel to Destiny (it's a sequel to Destiny.)
Overall my biggest complaint is that graphically it's not as big a step up as I had hoped for, but that could also just be due to stream compression.

Well I have to admit the Reddit leak was mostly right after all, and in the context of the presentation, makes sense and fits pretty well with Shinobi's original leak too.

To me, it's the best of both worlds (and both leaks), we still seem to have levels with Sparrows, some Saturn goodness, a form of matchmaking for Raids, and expanded/deeper worlds, with seemingly less Earth levels... I'm psyched.

they said a new strike for the demo stations, and who expected more than 1 raid for the main game

Well that was flaccid.

Probably great for diehard fans, but as a lapsed D1 player I feel turned off by what they've shown here. I at least expected it to massively expand on the scope of the game.

But again, three-four worlds, one raid, similar structure, no actual spaceship to fly, no new classes, reused enemies, it all fell kinda flat. If you were pining for more of the same, you've got it.

We got 3 new classes. They went over all 3.

Anyone have a screenshot of the planets screen?

Yeah it's great if "more Destiny" is what you wanted, and a game-sized expac with some QoL improvements (no more returning to orbit, woohoo) is all you wished for. I quit the game because of the lack of exploration content though, key to MMOs especially these days, and it looks like they aren't fixing that in D2. Still only four planets, and their biggest zone (earth) is only around the twice the size of their biggest zone in D1. For solo players this will run into exactly the same issues D1 did: No more solo content, please queue endlessly for strikes.

Did you actually watch this stream though? They talked quite a bit about exploration content.

I had Destiny one and stopped after the first raid. This trailer does not hype me up. Prettier and Flashier but looks like same ol boring AI monsters tbh. Oh well

Is anyone streaming gameplay from the event? I was hoping to see some of the new PvP mode.

Anyway, this basically looks like a Taken King level expansion. I was hoping for a bit more, but Taken King was still amazing, so definitely day one.

Did they specifically say fire teams were still three?

The leaker from yesterday said they were 4 now, and he ended up being right on a lot of things.

It would be insane for them to keep fireteams at 3 if crucible is 4v4.

Although that adds another question, if fireteams get bumped up to 4, will raids go up to 8?

it's going to be more than one strike. they're not going to show all of them before release.

one raid makes sense, and is pretty standard.

A New Strike that they play today. A new Raid that will be shown and talked about at a later date.

There will be more than one new strike most likely and only one Raid, which has been par for the course.

New enemy types within the race of Cabal were shown in the gameplay but not discussed.

The graphics won't bother me if it's 60FPS on consoles, although I guess it won't look as great as other games on PC.

Gotta say, being disappointed because you saw an untrue rumor or leak that wasn't delivered on is kind of silly, no? Cause it wasn't something that was actually going to exist in the first place

it was rumor backed up by Jason Schreier who has been correct in the past but its really besides the point, I'd have been fine if it wasn't true if there had been literally anything interesting announced during the reveal

The biggest problem Destiny 1 had for me was never the core gameplay, but the lack of content. A real campaign that I can play through multiple times, a raid, and some strikes (want more of these) with a much better looking Crucible similar to Halo? Well that checks off all the boxes for me.

Not sure if there is enough of a difference from 1 to 2 for me to buy. Lets see if they make pvp more skill based, that will guide my decision (sounds like they are).

Pretty disappointing considering they've had so long to work on it with ROI only being a small expansion. All their megabombs were things I expected as a baseline for Destiny 2. What really hurts the most for me was Noseworthy saying the new patrol maps where twice as big as the old one when the rumor was that they were going to be bigger than all of the D1 patrol maps combined.

Counterpoint: Assassin Creed games.

Bigger isn't better of there's nothing to do. Destiny is very much a game as a service at this point too, which means the bigger it is the more spread out content will be (and harder to update).

I'm ok with a tight game with smaller worlds vs a large open one with nothing to do.

I right with ya! As a day one since alpha player this has me hyped! I may actually be double dipping again said I wouldn't but damnit looks so good. I already preorder deluxe on Xbox one digital and looks like I'm keeping my PS4 limited edition preorder! Super hyped!

You never played Destiny right? The community there is amazing in coop activities, in great parts because the game design rewards cooperation and never gives the occasion for players to antagonize others.
This guided games thing is a pretty clever idea.

lol, what a fucking stupid attitude. Of course I played it, just like everyone else that was lied to and suckered into buying it. But at least now I can steer clear of destiny 2, since they wont give probably one of the most requested features.

I don't know what to say man, people have different opinions and a lot of people got really burned by Destiny 1, especially when they thought it didn't deliver on the promises that were made about it.

I do think it looks pretty good but I agree with some of the sentiments that it felt like there would be more than what was presented today. But may be they'll show off more to satisfy what I'm looking for.

I do agree though it doesn't look like garbage and some of the things they're doing look pretty great but I feel like a lot of it should have happened before Destiny 2.
