Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

Once again limited by current hardware. Scorpio won't be able to take advantage of 60fps because it will give a gameplay advantage over other players using the Xbox One

I've been saying for awhile now that development baseline catering towards base PS4/X1 are going to mitigate the potential of these mid-gen upgrades. MS fans who haven't accepted this yet, like many Pro users have had to, are about to get hit with a bucket of cold water in the coming months.

It seems a lot of people expected something that to put it simply just isn't Destiny. This game sold more than 20M copies on console, has a huge and devoted fanbase. If you played the game, there's simply no way to point at things like the new treasures, undiscovered sites, caves, sidequest missions, the campaign presentation, character involvement, class rehash, new weapon types, new planets, clans integration, PvP changes, etc and be like...."yeah, whatever."

You either didn't spend much time on Destiny or your interest in the genre itself is very small. Nothing is perfect and this certainly won't be but the changes are looking great. It feels like the vision they had in the first place.

I agree. The hyperbole or fake concern or just plain ignorance shown by some is amazing. I guess you can't make every one happy.

But that's never going to happen. The never-ending problem with all MMOs is producing content and having enough that players feel like there's enough variety that everything doesn't get stale quickly. Early Destiny 1 definitely had the problem of everything feeling samey and grindy with very little feeling difference between some of the things you did but everyone agreed the Vex Raid was a slam dunk in being creative and unique.

There really shouldn't be any disagreement over people wanting more of that kind of thing. More well-designed raids is ideally what everyone should want.

The amount of raids is not the entire game. If the rest of the game has more to do then 1 raid will be fine.

Context.

Absolutely! But we're beyond that now, and the people feeling a little disappointed were expecting big changes worthy of a sequel, rather than elements like matchmaking and no more returning to orbit first that could (and should) have been patched into the first game years ago.

Anyone who just wants more Destiny should be stoked for this. Anyone wanting a full sequel that finally pushed visuals now that the game isn't cross gen, added new mechanics like space flight or massive open world environments, or did anything that couldn't have been done with an expansion alone... there's nothing to see here.

"Should have been patched in"

Let me take a wild guess, you don't know much about game development right?

Disappointing if people are buying a PS4 Pro and only get to play this at 30fps.

Pro isn't /that/ much more powerful that it can just brute force 60fps just because it's a Pro, you know?

Watched it with 2 friends and we loved it.

Came here to check your reactions and of course everybody hates it.

You guys need to cheer the fuck up.

It's really not fun anymore.

Video games!

DON'T TELL US HOW TO BE CYNICAL! *makes a face*

Honestly, sounds like Destiny isn't your type of game.
Maybe, not sure yet. The thing I was hoping for in Destiny 2 was more options for abilities and variations in, I don't know, class unique-ness.

Actually there are revamped weapon slots and I was seeing all sorts of new stuff on the HUD during game play that imply new weapon perks and mechanics.

Seems like there's something like a Super Select? Seemed like players were using multiple different supers in game instead of locked to one.

If people really care about that sort of depth there might be something there. I'd wait on YouTubers and Reddit to tear into the new game.

That sounds good, I'll definitely keep an eye out. The game has a really cool artistic design and the idea of the setting is cool.

One thing from the leak that they didn't mention on stream but I'm very excited about; the changes to shotguns and sniper rifles. To anyone that has ever crouched in a corner or behind a doorway, shotgun in hand, waiting for someone to run by, get fucked. Wait til heavy round and say goodbye to that shit as soon as you die

Titan shield looked badass. Everyone's gushing over the solar warlock, and it certainly looked cool... but it was basically just Hammer of Sol lol.

Super fucking happy to hear that Defender will still be there. Bubble for LIFE.

30fps though... come the fucking fuck on. Come ON. FUCK.

I wasn't really a Destiny Player and while I wasn't blown away by this reveal, I think they won me over. It's making the few changes that I wanted from the first game. I rather they go "full mmo" though. I'm in for Destiney 2 I guess.

Where was the defender confirmation?

It's still weird to me that Bungie opted for 3-player fire teams for PvE, but PvP is 4v4. Seems like it would've been the perfect opportunity to introduce a new class, but oh well.

One of the things the leaker from yesterday mentioned (which was not talked about today) was that each class will have a set ability that only they have and they'll have it no matter what subclass they choose, and then will have two additional abilities based on the subclass they are using.

So it does sound like there will be more individuality in builds.

You.

You understand this game! :)

4 vs 4 bothers me. My only concern is to make sure I have a fully fledged game at launch and not fixed with DLC later. 10 hour campaign as rumored with only 1 strike and 1 raid is kind of anemic. I hope I'm misinformed. I liked everything I saw though.

It seems like a great game for people who where happy with Destiny 1 but they are not doing anything to win me back over.

Sounds like it will have content issues again.

Glad that crucible is 4v4 now 6v6 was a shit show with the spawns and supers all the time.

Yes. Competitive Destiny right now is 4v4.

Like I said in a previous post, comp rules is only one subclass per team. 4v4 gives classes like Gunslinger a viable place because it means there will be roaming supers.

6v6 is awful for balance and comp play. The more you add, the more room for error and dead weight it allows.

4v4 will be rough for more casual players, but hopefully they have a real comp and casual playlist for people who just want to play for fun.

Yeah, I'm really confused how the weapon slots work now. Someone spell it out for us, lol

Just like the leak said:

1 kinetic primary
1 elemental primary (which apparently that rotating barrel gun was, that's not a machine gun)
1 power weapon (all snipers, shottys, grenade launchers rocket etc.)

"Why is it limited to 4? Man, there are five of us we always have to leave someone out..."

But then the people who have 4 buddies would have someone left out again.

4 has been the standard in most coop games in recent times except for destiny of course. That's why.

There has to be a limit I get it, but three is bullshit. Honestly it should be six and if you only want to play with 2-5, fine.

Is PvP and PvE still joined at the hip? So PvP balancing will affect PvE and vice-versa?

And changes to how gear is normalized in PvP?

I was being a little facetious there.

It *is* weird that you can play PvP with three other friends, and not the PvE stuff. Always thought it was weird that raids were 6 players but that there was no other 6 player content.

Destiny has a lot of strange designs and limitations. Which is why I'm so interested to see where they've made positive changes.

So is the machine gun a primary now? The Titan had it like all the time.

Weapon systems were overhauled.

You now have
  • Kinetic
  • Elemental
  • Heavy

Kinetic and Elemental weapons can overlap with the weapon types. The main difference is litereally just some of them have an elemental charge and some don't. A lot of 1HKO weapons were moved to the Heavy slot. So Shotguns, Snipers, and Fusions are all heavy weapons now.

It's arbitrary, though, and the expectation is silly, and unless you only have 4 friends you would have to leave someone out anyway.

3 is fine.

Disappointing if people are buying a PS4 Pro and only get to play this at 30fps.

So you expected 60fps modes against 30fps competition? Buy a PC. I'm thrilled with the pro being 4k as it's all I expected. I never thought Bungie would ever allow pro owners such a huge advantage since everyone would complain about it.

Bingo. It looks like Destiny, but MORE of it.

It has all the things that people that played Destiny 1 want.

People that are still searching for that elusive perfect game they thought Destiny was going to be are the ones left feeling bitter. Destiny just isnt for them, and thats perfectly OK.

There will be more than 1 strike when the game launches. 1 raid thing I can agree with. Hoping they have atleast 2 planned for the base game with a staggered launch for them.

I'm not saying it like this to imply shouting or to be a dick, but people keep getting this impression and it's completely false. There is not only one strike in the entire game, there is one strike playable at the event today.
