Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

I can't imagine the developers wanting to have such scarce evolutions in ideas. I'd have so many ideas for a sequel, where is that something that is NEW, fresh? Where is that "This is Destiny 2" feeling? I see they have little tweaks here and there but it seems a bit unsettling. A new class or race out of the box, new race attributes, ANYTHING! Please!

The problem is that this sets the foundation of what to expect for this installment and the fact that most of it is QoL improvements makes me nervous.

Couldn't agree more here. Looks like QoL improvements and a couple new efatures ehre and there and thats it. Maybe they should make they 2 a little smaller on the box art...

i want to be an xbox/pc destiny player not ps4/pc it would hurt real bad if cross save doesnt go between all 3. Dont be stupid Microsoft let them in

Looks the same as Destiny 1.

There are a few features that fix some of my biggest complaints: not having to go to orbit, and a matchmaking of sorts.

Other than that, I was expecting much more...

more news coming out from people playing:

- 26 people per instance
- heavy ammo spawns every minute
- golden gun has shorter duration but fires 6 shots
- and apparently fusions and sidearms are not part of the heavy slot

Sucks about 4 v 4.

There is now a MUCH bigger emphasis on the player doing their part.

So if you are someone who plays casual, you can single handily be responsible for losing.

Eh I'll wait for maybe a week or two after launch and some extremely comprehensive reviews. If it has cross platform play I'll definitely be getting it.

I'm probably asking an impossible question, but what are the chances it will repeat the same mistakes the first one did? In that we will be going to the same locations a million times and the same goes for sub/real boss fights. I mean, I can't remember how many times I defeated that giant flying eye but it was waaaaaaaaay too much.

I hope they change this as well and add more variety to the type of enemies you fight.

From what I'm reading on reddit its 60fps 1080p, 4k mode is 30fps on ps4 (pro?).
Can't get a confirmation at all though.
Honestly, this, Lore and no more going to orbit are the true Megatons today.

Watching it again, there is a lot they aren't showing yet. I feel like they have a few more surprises up their sleeves. Cautiously excited to hear more.

If there's a hint at E3 about ship battles or a ship combat crucible mode, I would die. Or Dragons. Destiny needs space Dragons.

I saw that split second of a cinematic showing ship shooting at a Cabal battleship, so I'm also hoping the big E3 reveal is ship battles, though that's more of a hope than an expectation.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's an Ahamkara (literal magic space dragon, for the uninitiated) hidden somewhere. Lore says they've been spotted around Jupiter, so maybe Io?

Obviously we don't know but if were going off of that reveal, I'm guessing don't expect a huge variety.

Its funny, when I was raiding the other week with my friends I literally said 1 new class and 1 new type of enemy was the bare minimum of what Destiny was going to come out with. Not looking likely right now.

IIRC it was capped at 12 in Destiny 1 in the destinations, and at 16 in the Tower. That's a huge bump.

Super stoked for the PvE but disappointed with the PvP changes.

I see 4v4 focus as a way of, um, focusing the activities and resources. I'm hoping that shows in the rest of the game.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see that creep pretty quickly after launch, with the triumphant return of 6v6, etc.

I feel like it's too early to say that without seeing how the new open world patrols work, the overall flow of the new structure of the game, and the quality of the campaign missions. If they all hit the same level as that opening mission then it's going to be a massive step up for this series.

Yes, that's it. It definitely doesn't also have four completely new planet areas to explore.

I can't tell if some of you guys honestly don't know about the game or if you're being disingenuous to troll.

Are the four new areas in addition to the ones destiny 1 already gave us? Not sure if that was clarified.

The "Destiny 1.5" line has already been brought out, giving me some wicked flashbacks to Halo 2.5, when Halo 3 launched. It was dumb then, but patently absurd on the basis if what we have here.

Yea, probably a result of trying to be 1:1 with the legacy consoles.

Yeah, that makes sense. My next question is - what does that mean for AI counts? Probably up, at least proportionally.

Super stoked for the PvE but disappointed with the PvP changes.

The 4v4 would bother me less if they only said that MP is now completely separate from PvE. I hate that gear plays a role in PvP. I was hoping for the Halo approach, with different loadouts, and only really your special playing a role in the match. But that doesn't seem to be the case...

On the real...

Anyone who was a major player of Destiny...have you seen anything that'll STOP you from getting Destiny 2? I'm talking about players who were playing through most of it, not those who stopped before the DLC and TTK hit.

4vs4 is a shame. Have a feeling they are trying to get their Halo thing back. But Destiny is not the game for that. And you know. There is still Halo.
6vs6 was fine for casual PVP.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "they are trying to get their halo thing back".

Thirteen years ago in Halo 2, multiplayer modes had a wide range of options. Team Slayer was 4v4 but that was just one gametype. There was also 8v8 Big Team Battle and Multi-Team Slayer (4v4v4v4). Each of those gametypes had multiple various sub-modes.

D2's Crucible is going to be 4v4, regardless of gametype and mode. At least that's what we've been told. I suppose it's possible for a multi-team mode similar to Halo's to eventually show up but I'm not holding my breath. 4v4 just seems sad in 2017 when there are direct competitors offering up big scale battles and when 6v6, outside of highly stylized games like Overwatch and Paladins, already feels small.

I love both and can see why people would say that about 3, even more so about destiny 2 with that reveal. Difference in expectations vary quite a bit I guess.

Hmmmm.. so i just watched the stream.

Seems like it was tailored to pleasing existing fans, I never played the first so this was doing very little for me. It was really hard to follow not knowing first thing about Destiny.

They're cheering about stuff like "not going to orbit" or a new "strike" and I am just sitting here wondering what this is and why I should care.

Most the gameplay shown was like a visual orgy of explosions and particle effects, not a good first impression.

I still may give it a chance since it's coming to PC, but I was hoping to get excited about Destiny 2, not indifferent.

Yeah, this was very much for the fans. There will be a beta later, so you can check it out.

I honestly expect maybe 2 or 3 more. I would be happy with that change alone.

It was an utterly indefensible line of critique with Halo 3, TBH.

I do agree about different expectations, though. I was expecting the core game play to remain intact, with major overhauls to the surrounding systems, game flow, narrative design and world design. That's what we're getting.

They're not. I think the reason is that the entire back end development system needed to be changed.

Shinobi's original leak last year hinted that they'll eventually be added back in.

I just don't get it. There are some things to complain about, sure. Maybe this could handle 60fps on consoles? (I doubt it.) Maybe the graphics could be better.

But the main issue with Destiny was always the content while the gameplay itself was praised from the beginning. With the new ways to explore, the adventure feature, the LFG tool... They're giving people more to do and more ways to access end game content.

On top of that, they seem to be trying to fix the issues with Crucible quite a bit by bringing it back to 4v4 and making snipers/shotguns require heavy ammo.

What did people expect? For it to play like Battlefield?

This is exactly what I want, and what they haven't shown yet.

The core moment to moment gameplay is awesome. Its everything else surrounding and driving and gating it that I have had problems with.

I don't get what's wrong about appealing to the fans that have helped Destiny be successful. The game netted them almost 1 billion dollars, as of November 2015 they had 25M users, a 5M increase in 3 months when that was recorded.

If anything given how successful it is, I'd appeal to the fanbase as well rather than going outside of their boundaries and doing things to majorly bring in new fans. Not that new fans don't matter but these fans? You gotta take care of them first because they've made Destiny a major success.

Some people want formula changes or evolutions. Different or new planets doesn't particularly help with that. Destiny 1 had expansions with new areas as well.

Not convinced.

The snippets of gameplay look like more of the same. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I've a nagging feeling it will suffer from an aggressive lack of content again like the original Destiny and expansions.

Bargain bin purchase? Maybe.

Day one purchase? No way.

What a roller coaster of emotions this day has been. My hype was at maximum levels watching the reveal stream, but this potential delayed PC release has just caused it to come crashing down. Really really bummed out.
