I'll echo the sentiment being expressed here in that I expected so.ethjng ambitious, like the original dream of OG Destiny. From the looks of it what we're getting lacks ambition at it's very core.
I think the amount of surprise at people wanting big graphical overhauls and gameplay changes in a new game is more surprising. I mean you're on NeoGAF, people here are always gonna complain about Graphics in the best of times and to be frank graphics aren't super different here.
to me this just looks like another dcl for destiny 1
Nah bruh, Mass Effect with Bungie's great shooting.
Is that really a feature?Don't forget NPCS on planets ...
Well, like was already said, was severely handicapped by being Cross-gen. So people were expecting probably some crazy new stuff. The weather effects, DoF, lighting and motion blur are huge improvements over D1. Destiny already looked good and D2 looks great.
But is Lord Shaxx the announcer still in PvP?!
😡Sweeper bot is the new announcer.
Is that really a feature?
Yeah, I guess I thought the reveal of Destiny 2 would be a bigger deal, with some major features and megatons.
There's nothing groundbreaking or game-changing here, from what I've seen so far. Its just a decent iteration on the previous game.
Just my impressions. Not demanding anybody else share them, or feel bad for their own hype. Obviously, just having more Destiny is more than enough for plenty of the game's fans.
Might have to wait for Dylan before something close to that gets made.
I really like it in Destiny trailers when teams of characters jump off high things. As of right now i will probably wait until Destiny 2; Comet drops and buy the complete edition then. 2017 just has too many games.
However its fair to say Destiny 2 looks pretty good.
If you're Bungie and saw that Destiny gave them almost 1 billion dollars and had 25M registered users November 2015...would you actually change your format or appeal to the people that actually play your games?
What would you do?
Common sense says you'd take care of those people first.
I loved the the first Destiny. I didn't want different, I wanted more... more than what was shown today. New classes, new enemies, new weapon types, new looks for armor and skills.

Compare Destiny -> Destiny 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved -> Halo 2, and you can see how some people would think D2 comes across as kind of tame.

Edit: Them saying things like "A new map!" and "A new raid!" didn't help either. You don't point out things like that in a numbered sequel, you point that out in an x-pack, or patch notes.
I have the same feeling.I mean.... I expected Destiny 2 to look like Destiny 1, but Destiny 2 looks so much like Destiny 1.
What about today made it seem like this is all there is to see from Destiny 2?
You got people in this very thread thinking they didn't change much because they didn't mention it and now you're saying they don't need to say what they've changed because it needs to be brought up in patch notes?
I loved the reveal and will be playing this day 1. As someone who spent hundreds of hours in D1, everything shown today looks like an improvement. The public spaces are especially intriguing since I'm more of a solo player. A timer one the map for public events? Thank you. Meeting talking NPCs in the wild and fighting alongside them? Yes, please. And an in-game mechanism to find others to play raids and nightfalls? Fuck yes.
For anyone who sees this reveal and is unhappy that it's "too much like Destiny," I don't know what you were expecting. I loved Destiny and it would be completely alienating for the sequel to change as much as some of you wanted. If you watched today's stream and weren't excited, and you already didn't like Destiny, then you're just not going to ever get into this IP. Move on and find something else because 3 years later, the same old arguments are tired. Bungie listened to the community it cared about and ignored you and your concerns. That should say enough.
I dunno if it's a fair comparison. Vanilla Destiny to The Taken King to Rise Of Iron/Current Destiny is a HUGE jump. D2 looks to iterate even further on that.
Reveals like this usually lead with the strong stuff. I'm not asking this sarcastically: Do you think they're going to start announcing things like what I mentioned afterwards? Seems like if there was a new class, and a bunch of new weapon types, they might've highlighted that rather than telling us "There are new exotics." Them telling me that there are new exotics worried me more than hyped me.
It's like if you're buying a new car and the sales person is like "Nobody ever puked on these seats!" Well, yeah, I would hope not.
No, I was saying those are patch-note level or at least expansion level announcements. Not something you would say with a supposedly all-new game.
Do we know what the new hunter ability is?
Titan is deployable cover
Warlock is support circle
Hunter is ???
They all seem to be forms of support though which I really like.
They showed a few new weapon types. SMG and Grenade Launcher off the top of my head. I feel like there were a couple more.

Much much more...Maybe. I haven't played any Destiny since a few weeks after TTK. I didn't even experience that much of TTK's content before I noped out. For more frame of reference, I am someone who played for the PvP first and foremost, but who enjoyed the occasional PvE stuff, mainly the strikes.
The PvE got way too repetitious, and the tropes/enemy encounters were never really that engaging. Plus after you played them over and over, it all just kind of mushed together into a blur of sameness, at least for me.
I don't think Destiny -> TTK is really that much different, mechanically or systematically, even though there are quite a bit of differences.
And this too feels kind of the same. As someone who hasn't followed a single ounce of Destiny content/information since almost 2 years ago I was expecting more.
It's been 4 years since that though. I get the disappointment when Destiny first released but it's done. They haven't tried to repeat that marketing angle for a reason so holding them to it, when they've basically admitted that's not the destiny vision anymore, is wasted energy.Look back at the pre-release marketing of Destiny 1 to get an idea, for starters.
I did see those, and they were cool, I guess I was just expecting a lot more.

Hunters is flipping off his teammates and flying away
Just like a real hunter

Gunslinger gets a juke sort of like shadestep.

You must be very disappointed with most sequels.

Just had 100% confirmation consoles will be locked to 30fps regardless of resolution
So I had a quick question.
Did we ever get an answer on play counts for the different modes?
What I've seen so far:
PvP: 4 player
Strikes: 3 player
Raids: 6 player
Public Events: 10 player
What about story missions and random wandering though?
What the hell were people expecting with a sequel? I think a lot of you have unrealistic expectations.
