A 20-something woman came to a local ukulele group recently. Someone asked why she was there, and it was kind of neat watching her explain how it was because of this cartoon she likes, and how the main character plays ukulele, and so she wanted to learn. And her audience was a bunch of retired people and Hawaiians.

I don't watch Steven Universe but I'm aware of the ukulele connection. :)

If you haven't noticed, CN social media accounts had been teasing what songs will be featured in the first official SU soundtrack release for weeks now. They'll be doing a live show tonight on Facebook to reveal the full list.

I reckon that SU and Rebecca Sugar herself have inspired a lot of fans to pick up instruments and start composing/writing songs.

That's certainly the case with me.

It's still going.

EDIT: and it's over

- 37 tracks total
- includes all vocal tracks from the show up to this point including full Love Like You
- available to preorder from Amazon/iTunes/Spotify starting tomorrow

I'm sure someone will post the complete track list soon.

It's missing At the Big Donut (the song Mr. Smiley sings in the Big Donut instructional video) and the Lil Butler theme, but the latter has had its vocals/lyrics removed in reruns for some reason. It also doesn't have the Mike Krol songs from Last One Out of Beach City, but those songs were already available on Spotify and other music services.

I was hoping there would be instrumental songs, but there's always room for a Volume 2. I'm more than happy to finally put pretty much every vocal song from the show onto my Spotify rotation.

Plus, the remastered versions of the songs sound incredible.

Oh yeah, I remember someone saying that reruns had neutered the lil butler theme for some reason. I haven't seen that one rerun in a while myself so could never confirm.

A whole volume can be just instrumental songs because there's so many, but they'll maybe want to add any new vocals that will appear in the near future on the show to give it more of a selling point. I wonder if this means they'll stop sharing songs on SoundCloud... I know they only just recently released another instrumental, but their uploads have slowed considerably since Season 4 started.

I'm already preparing my list for inevitable "Top 10 SU Songs" discussion immediately following the release of this album

Caught up with the latest stephen bomb
Namek arc?

NAMEK ARC

I will never understand how people can misspell the main characters name after 4 seasons :P

especially when it's a decently common name like Steven.

In general I take offense to spelling Steven Stephen. as Stephen should be pronounced Steff-fen not Steven. thus why I always find it weird when someone spells it that way when the correct way to spell it is in the title of the thread.

So in this CN Side with Rebecca she confirms that both Aquamarine and Topaz are very high ranking gems within their respective courts.

Which isn't too surprising considering Pearl's reaction in "I Am My Mom" and Aquamarine's entire demeanor, but for some reason I have such a hard time accepting that in regards to Topaz. lol
Like...she didn't seem that much stronger or faster than a perfect quartz like Jasper (she definitely hasn't shown an abilities on par with Jasper's deadly comet charge or spindash) , and Aquamarine treated her like an oblivious obedient hunk of dumb muscle rather than a high ranking warrior.
Plus Jasper's own words make it seem like only weak gems use fusion, which naturally led me to believe that strong singular gems like Jasper would be high ranking warriors on homeworld.

Man...I really want to know more about the gem caste system and its hierarchy.
It's clear in some places, but somewhat confusing in others. lol

I mean, Sapphire's also pretty high-ranking even though she probably couldn't take Jasper in a fistfight. Maybe Topaz is just really good at acquisitions, considering she was carrying six humans at once, not to mention beating Connie while she had Rose's sword before Connie even had a chance to retaliate.

EDIT: Obedience might be grounds for high rank too, rather than the other way around. Jasper might be the ultimate cheeto puff but she still has some autonomy. For all they know, though, Topaz might be better because she's a Gem of few words and doesn't question anything. Sapphire was in a similar situation in The Answer, where she was basically just going to sit there and get poofed if it meant Rose and Pearl were caught.

I think Jasper's position on fusion may be tainted by how she views herself and her place in the world. It may be more of a personal thing.

Given how Homeworld typically uses fusion to get the most out of large numbers of weak gems, like Ruby squads, it's easy to see how Jasper would feel superior to it.

Though with Aquamarine's comments on "sentimentality" and Topaz, it seems Homeworld understands potential downsides to fusion... from their perspective.

My Dad's middle name is spelled Stephen but pronounced Steven. It confused me for a long time.

Good points.
Power and strength wouldn't necessarily determine rank.
In addition to unquestioning obedience, high ranking gems seem to have very useful and (more importantly) unique abilities more often than not and Topaz's fusion trapping power seems pretty valuable and special to me; she's basically a cage that can also squash you.
It makes me wonder what special powers the other high-ranking warrior gems in yellow's court have.

I think Jasper's position on fusion may be tainted by how she views herself and her place in the world. It may be more of a personal thing.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Seeing as the famethyst (all earth born gems) are treated like trash by Holly, Jasper is probably always having to prove herself within Yellow's court.
Which is probably extremely disheartening for her considering that she's the ultimate quartz and was apparently an absolute beast in the war- taking out dozens of crystal gems as soon as she emerged from her exit hole.
I imagine that seeing gems who are individually weaker than her fuse in order to equal her strength or maybe even surpass it while also being higher ranked and more respected must be both infuriating and defeating for her.

also... is it memorial day yet?

Regarding season 5's episode Lars' Head, I wonder what else is there for Steven to learn about Lars. The episode description says Steven finally gets to know the real Lars, but what's next? Steven already learned a significant amount about Lars in previous episodes, so what could be the big revelation? I'm thinking maybe its related to his social issues as highlighted in The Good Lars, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Lars comes out of the closet...

He *does* have an unexplained fixation on Buck of all people... 🤔

It'd probably be something really lame like he secretly wishes he was more like Steven except he's already kinda admitted to that. Yeah, I'm stumped.
