Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

Well yeah, Baywatch. Power Rangers was good for what it was, so was Fifty Shades (seriously this one wasn't that bad) and IT and The Mummy look competent to good. So they have not been trash.

Hope I never have to see that stupid gif with his stupid face and the stupid side kick pathetically trying to stay in frame ever in my life.

It really does though. The reason why the Marvel movies work so well, so often is because they focus on heart and humor. Even if the movie isn't amazing, the characters shine through.

That hasn't been the case with the DCEU so far. Until now. Based on these reviews, they are focusing on the characters. And I think DC will be learning a lot from it.

That doesn't mean it's the Marvel style.

I don't know that these two can even fit in the same character anymore though.

Especially not with Wonder Woman standing right there.

The whole point of BvS's ending is Batman becoming hopeful again after seeing Superman sacrifice himself for the greater good. I assume Superman's revival will do the same.

Why did these characters need to go through that movie to get there? Now that's the real mystery.

Really? Link me - I thought we only just recently discovered the rewrites Whedon was hired to do even existed. I missed where someone reported on what the focus of those rewrites were.

Thanks!

Don't think they've said much about the additional scenes other than they'll stick to the tone of Snyder's stuff, and won't introduce new characters. Basically a boiler plate response.

Boom. Though Batman has always been a gloomy gus. Wanna make this Batman completely different than the others, DC? Gimme my god damn Batdad on screen.

WW is not a quipfest. Plus, it looks like an actual movie and not a TV show. It's biggest influence is Donner's Superman, which means DC must learn from DC.

Interesting. I read an article not too long ago that basically stated it was going to do worse than any other DCEU flick. Glad that wasn't accurate.
The DCEU has done absurdly well at the box office. If Wonder Woman does worse than every other DCEU film, it can still be fine (Especially since it stars a much less popular character than Batman and Superman).

I still say Batman should've been a full-on villain, but whatevs.

And damn that gif to the depths of hell. IT HAS NO POWER HERE.

So angry lol.

I think Ben Affleck is trying to take Batfleck away from you, but unlike Bobby, I don't think either Superman or Batman are beyond fixing.

I hope to hell I'm wrong.

Cavill could be the conversational, easygoing, lighthearted Superman easy. I would love it.

I just don't know that anyone there can figure out how to get that Clark to show up in these movies after all of...

of that.

Thank the Lord.

I love these characters. All I wanted was good films with characters I've liked for a long time.

Glad DC has finally stuck the landing.

There were rumors of the Wonder Woman production/editing being a mess a few months back (last fall?). Does anyone remember the website that was passing off those rumors?

We should keep a checklist of who's making things up. Especially since we had that interview last week talking about how little was changed from final script to final cut.

So I know the movie wasn't tracking super well but, historically, how much do good reviews bump those numbers?

Marketing mostly makes the opening Thursday/Friday
Good WoM means sustained performance over the next week
Superb WoM really shows up in a huge Saturday-Sunday where people who don't ordinarily go to the movie actually pay weekend prices.

A few things. First off, weren't there rumors that this movie was a mess and in trouble? Second, is this movie good because Warner finally took a back seat and stopped meddling or because no Snyder or both?

All superhero movies are trash because superheros are implicitly trash. But my favourite trash is better than your favourite trash and could beat it in a fight.

P.s. Going to try to catch ww this week.

Yeah, I don't remember the name, but someone served up the reciepts on who it was spreading that bullshit "reshoots/mess in the editing" rumor.

I think it was a ScreenJunkies guest

I like that you ignored my mention of "heart and humor" as well as multiple reviews comparing this to Captain America: The First Avenger to drop the "quipfest" line.

It's okay to be influenced by both Donner's Superman and the MCU, which is clearly the case here. There's nothing wrong with that.

But I fully realize you'll never admit that, being you and all. :P

Edit: Oh god, I didn't even notice your "TV show" nonsense when I replied. lmao.

Probably because there's no Snyder deconstructing these characters.

I think we all need to remember the alleged leaked synopsis of this film that claimed that the entire movie was framed through Wonder Woman's email in BvS.
