Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

I have a feeling I won't be liking this, given all the talk about it being a light comedic affair with comparisons to a film and portrayal from 1978. I hope I'm wrong and there's a lot more substance to it than that.

MOS is a 7/10 for most folks.
BVS is a 5/10 for most folks.
SS is a 2/10 for everyone except whoever the fuck brought all those ticket.

What I am trying to say is to call every DC movie so far absolutely trash seems like a biased personal opinion.

BvS is widely considered to be an absolutely awful movie. I'll give you Man of Steel having a mixed reaction but let's not rewrite history on BvS. :P

Holy shit that RT score

Its funny because I was telling a friend this weekend that I had a good feeling about Wonder Woman.

I'll concede that it's "one mediocre and two terrible" films. But still, the crap that the DCEU has gotten isn't worth a "wall of shame" just because people assumed the worst of the fourth film in the series.

(Not referring to the Gal Gadot shaming stuff, of course. That was ridiculous.)

I don't see how that doesn't deserve a wall of shame? People assumed something and were wrong. Is it really a series? It's a shared universe sure, but a 95% different creative team. It's not ridiculous to hope for the best instead of assuming the worst

Still think SS is a terrible movie. Just bad outside of Deadshot and Harley.
BvS sure had its problems. But had more great moments then bad moments imo. It got criticized to hard just because of the the importance of the characters probably. We never know. I mean Ghostbusters that year got a 73% and thats just a bad movie. Not like SS but still bad.
Man of Steel i think is fine. Its a good origin story, good villian (wich is rare) and we finally saw Superman his speed on the big screen in the right way. Its not perfect offcourse. But should have been easily "fresh" and in the 70%

Meta critic has it at 44% and I can't see RT on my phone. That's absolutely awful? GAF is not everyone.

Well... There was also the shambling wreck known of as Green Lantern.

I don't think many things deserve a "wall of shame" because it's kind of childish.

MoS is mediocre. But more or less in line with a good majority of the comic flicks since the dark knight tbh. it does some things better (Shannon as Zod is so good as is the soundtrack) than its peers and some things worse. Nothing special really.

BvS I quite like, but I totally understand why a lot of people outright loathe it. Theres a lot of polarizing ideas and filmmaking in there. and it damn sure has its problems

Suicide Squad is pure shit. no two ways about it with that one.

Because it's fucking stupid to "shame" people because they were apprehensive about a movie in a cinematic universe where "above average" would be considered a high water benchmark?

It's stupid to "shame" people over crap like this to begin with. It's a film, like i keep getting told with BvS, people have different opinions.

I always read stuff like this on GAF and wonder how big our bubble is. I've yet to hear a person, in real life, call BVS and SS bad movies.

I know plenty of people calling them bad movies. The only people I know that liked those are the same that like the Transformers flicks. People with no discernable taste at all.

You act like this wall of shame is a new concept for GAF. Suddenly it's a problem? Also, apprehensive is putting it lightly. Look at the vitriol found in any WW thread.

28% on RT for BvS.

It's pretty awful.

That's not how scores work. We are talking about the critics actual score.

Well... There was also the shambling wreck known of as Green Lantern.

This is the first legitimately good DC movie in five years. It's not strange that people doubted it.

(And there are those who would argue it has been nine years.)

Though sure, those who were absolutely adamant that it would be awful look a bit silly. But I don't think it's worth shaming people for doubting it. It's childish. Let's just be happy the movie is good, who cares if someone thought it would be bad?

As much as I loved trolling BvS I'm so glad this turns out even better that I had hoped for. So hyped! Hope it goes well in the box office!

I haven't heard anyone calling them good movies. There is no Gaf 'bubble', the forum tends to be in line with critical reception and, in my experience, the public.

Glad this movie seems good though, was planning on seeing it anyway.

For people I know, most of them think BvS is a good movie, weird and maybe a bit too long, but good. Suicide Squad gets the "I guess it was fun". Nobody I know hated none of those movies, but of course that changes from person to person. But yeah, if SS was considered a shitty movie by most of the audience, it wouldn't have made the numbers it did.

Late night talk show hosts have made jokes about how bad BvS was. I promise you, this isn't a "GAF bubble" thing. :P

Really? I've never heard someone say anything positive about BvS, or anything at all about SS.

Yup. For me, BVS is easily a 9/10. Now I know I am in extreme minority on that, not just here but even with other comic friends of mine. But on the other hand I think SS is a fucking 1/10, there's absolutely no redeeming quality about that movie and yet my non comic friends were partial to it.

And yet people were shamed over Avengers. Funny how that works.

Yup. I can see arguments in defense of Man of Steel or even Batman vs Superman.

But there is almost nothing redeeming about Suicide Squad. Just a horrible movie.

I liked Viola's Waller. Her character itself within the movie was awful, but casting her as Waller was a smart idea.

Strange. I don't think I've met a person in real life call them good movies. In fact I'm usually the only one in my social circle willing to go to bat for Man of Steel, for that matter.

Usually we just laugh with the same incredulous "How can this be so awful? What happened???" rhetoric that we use when talking about Star Wars prequels or The Hobbit.

Everyone talking about their circle of friends and their opinions, are they all fellow nerds and comic book fans? Because my 12 year old niece and all of her friends fucking LOVE Suicide Squad. There is a market for everything, simple as that.

That's not how scores work. We are talking about the critics actual score.

I find critics score for films don't mean much since there are many different scales with many different interpretations of what a score means.

The RT way of "is this positive or not" is clearer to me, and only 28% of critics liking the movie is pretty dour. It wasn't received well at all.

Edit: Also 44 at metacritic is awful too.

Look, I was disappointed in SS but to say it's objectively bad is bullshit because the movie had serious legs, which means a lot of people liked it. It played to the masses well enough that you really can't give WB that much shit for it. It really was their Guardians, like it or loathe it.

That's funny. I remember my group of friends all coming out of BvS just shaking our heads, if not laughing our asses off about that movie's more embarrassing moments. Hell, this woman sitting next to me with her boyfriend literally said "What the fuck is this shit?" as Doomsday appeared.

We were constantly laughing at the baffling mess that was Suicide Squad. Every time it is mentioned among us is met with a guttural sound of utter disgust.

Those are bad movies. BvS atleast has some ambition I can understand people sorta appreciating, but it's still a helluva fucking mess.
