Wonder Woman (DCCU) Review Thread (RT 93%)

Oh, I wasn't even referring to - *scrolls up* - Fulge and his obviously accurate accusation that Ghostbusters got a positively kingly 73% on Rottentomatoes because it had female leads.

I mean, that's one example where the vast majority of the public thinks it's shit so you have to wonder why it reviewed so well.

I think it got 73% because of the harassment towards the cast and crew. Reviewers probably felt bad hammering it because of the man babies.

Certainly not because "we gotta review women movies well !".

Wonder Woman was in BvS for 5 minutes, and was CGI for like half of that time. I'm not sure how you guys took that to be indicative of any larger performance.

Given why Whedon is getting involved, can we not do this?

Huh? I wasn't criticising Snyder, I was just suggesting that Whedon's apparent changes wouldn't serve as a reflection on Snyder's work on the film as a director, but Whedon himself. However, I've since been corrected about the extent of Whedons involvement. It's all good.

"Watch out, Superman! It's Harley Quinn!"

"Who's she?"

"A crazy woman who wears hotpants! She carries a baseball bat!"

"Sounds like I'd better be careful!"

Superman has some pretty funny (and dickish) lines in Injustice 2 whenever he fights Harley Quinn.
"You want to hear a joke? Superman vs Harley Quinn."

I can't believe I woke up to find out that the movie has a 96% on RT and a 79 on Metacritic. If anything I think that metacritic score is something more remarkable.

A female-led superhero movie that's great, I can almost cry. I went from not giving a shit to turning 180. Will see this weekend.

if you're talking about fans maybe, but critics? not true, especially when you look at the average ratings for these films. movies that get rt scores in the 80s and 90s usually have average ratings in the 7-8/10 range, whilst something like, say batman v superman, which has an rt score in the 20s has an average rating of 5/10. a lot of critics give middling reviews and scores, stuff like rogue one wasn't seen as amazingly amazing by critics but just good.

Yep. Like, fuck's sake, just going on the front page of Metacritic right now. You'll see a movie that has a 79 average, a 65 average, a 55 average, a 39 average, and a 37 average.

So that makes two Fast & Furious stars in critically acclaim superhero movies.

Gonna be three soon.

lol if it ever gets made

Ok... but those "flaws" would still be subjective. The degree to which those flaws affect the overall experience of the film is also subjective. I agree with a lot of folks that Rogue One has pacing issues, especially in the first act. I don't personally feel that they ruin the experience enough for me to think of the film as anything less than a 4/5 personally, if I were to write a review of it. Another person could see those same pacing issues, be totally thrown off from the film and think of it as a 2/5. Another person could disagree entirely that there are pacing issues at all. None of these opinions are necessarily invalid.

The utterly insipid character arcs in what is supposed to be a WW2 esque, men on a mission, ensemble actioner is just one of the major issues I have with the film.

The flaws are there. They may not hamper your enjoyment of the film but they are there. I largely enjoyed Rogue One but the idea that it was being held up as some great cinematic experience by some was nonsense.

Maybe the aura around Star Wars has still to wear off, critically speaking.

That Guardian review doesn't make it sound like a 2/5 film.

I'm changing my box office prediction. I think this is going to bring in $200 million domestic and around $500 million worldwide.

Revenge of the Sith was over 80% for the longest time on RT. I haven't checked in awhile, but Attack of the Clones used to be fresh. Critics are pretty favourable to Star Wars in general.

Holy shit. I did not expect that high of RT. I'd be interested to see how this does financially compared to BvS and Suicide Squad given that this movie is actually good.

this movie will get made solely because of who's playing black adam

they need to cast cena as shazam so it's fucking money

I don't know a ton about Shazam, but from what I gather the character is oftentimes more-or-less Big, but a superhero right?

If he wasn't doing Gambit, I genuinely think Channing Tatum could fit the part incredibly well and capture the inner 12 year-old very well. Dude's got some fantastic comedic chops.

I could totally see him pulling off moments like this:

Tatum would be a great choice too.

Edit: Is Gambit still happening?

The Phantom Menace used to be fresh before the 3D re-release dropped the percentage. The Clone Wars animated movie is at 18% lol.

It got a 60 on MT, that is barely above mixed

Ehh it wouldn't be the first time he's worked with her. Though more often than not she's probably the reason something went wrong.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be too judgemental. Bruce liases with her a lot in the DCAU as well.

Still feels out of character for me, though. But then I guess this version of Batman cheerfully murders and mutilates criminals anyway, so it wouldn't be such a big leap.
