I'm not sure if Twitch would actually know about this 100%. But if they do, I'm still fine with a 60 minute showing. Just hope that they chill on stuff like Minecraft and VR demos, because those were always unnecessarily long.

That's so annoying. I get it's popular and all, but is the E3 conference really the time to talk about a game that's been out for years?
MS spent billions for Minecraft. I don't really want to see it either but I get why it will be there. That is a huge investment that they need to continually push.

To me it sounds like it will be way too short. For me their shows never felt too long. They now are going to show Scorpio, the price, release date and name. Gameplay demos of Crackdown, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2. Didn't they also say more mixed reality stuff would be at the Xbox show? Jez Corden mentioned Minecraft for the Xbox show.

Surely they will talk about game pass, Xbox live and new features. Way too fucking brief. So much for Major saying it was 90 minutes. I don't like this.
Mixed Reality will probably be part of their PC Show briefing I imagine

If Major Nelson said it's 90 min, then it is 90 min. Anyone has a link?

And what this talk about mixed reality stuff? I don't think we heard anything about that.

So for a 90 minute show, we know we'll see:

- Scorpio details (along with an official Xbox One S price drop?)
- Game Pass talk
- Xbox One BC talk
- Forza 7
- State of Decay 2
- Crackdown 3
- Sea of Thieves
- Assassin's Creed Origins
- Shadow of War
- "something" Halo
- Minecraft
- Fall OS update
- ID @ Xbox

I'm honestly pretty ok with that showing though I wouldn't rule out a surprise announcement or two.

It'll be that Xbox Live multiplayer is now free for all. GwG, "full" party chat, LFG, discounts, Clubs and Arena will still be tied to a gold subscription. /s

Yeah, I mean I understand that aspect. But I'm willing to bet 99% of the people watching the conference are familiar with Minecraft, if not everyone.

Yeah i would expect that too but I recall reading they said it would be at Xbox E3. Hopefully not.

It was a few months ago. If I had to guess early this year. I think he said this on Reddit actually.

I guess I'm easy to please but a new beastly console is more than enough to get me very excited about E3. I understand that people want exclusives to justify their platform of choice but to me there's just so many games out there already and only so much free time that I don't value exclusives as much as a good platform running on powerful hardware.

I feel like the whole exclusive thing is mainly a list war in disguise.

Anyways I'm all up with MS delivering on 1st party games don't get me wrong, but its clearly not priority #1 for me and I feel I'm not the only one thinking this way.

Disagree, I think exclusives should create healthy competition between platforms, not console war bullshit on forums and YouTube and kids playgrounds but actual positive healthy competition to create better games, new ideas. Healthy competition benefits us as gamers mate.

This is probably why people are "downplaying" things as you say:

2013:
Microsoft and Sony released their consoles at the same time, the PS4 is 40% more powerful while being 100$ cheaper.

2016:
Sony released a more powerful PS4 that can play games at 4K.

2017:
Microsoft will release a 40% more powerful console while being at least 100$ more expansive, a year later.

So as you can see, the scorpio being more powerful and releasing a year later is quite logical, can you say the same thing about what happend in 2013? there is your answer.

Saying PS4 Pro can play games in 4K is like saying Xbox One can play games in 1080p. Technically yes, actually not really.

Judging from the analysis of Scropio spec, it might actually play most of the games in 4K.

Last year Sony conference was about an hour and that's with 5 minutes of orchestra, a few VR titles and they still manage to fit tons of content within the time frame.
60 minutes is fine, we can expect good pacing, all killer no filler conference, this speak confidence of the content they have.
This is a conference 3 years in the making, it will be the best one yet.

If Minecraft had not been confirmed to be there and also no hardware reveal and potentially mixed reality stuff too I would agree but that's not the case.

Good thing it's still 90 minutes after all.

ReCore was a game with a very short dev cycle. Around 22-24 months total. One year pre-production, one-year full production. It was announced just as it came out of pre-production.

Bolded is false. Scalebound was in development since 2013. It was in the oven for 2 years before its reveal in 2015. There was a game. The difference is MS likes to do first announces with CGi or in-engine non-gameplay trailer when the game is >1 year away.

Also, the timing was fine, but I wouldn't call ReCore's announcement great.

I just prefer short announcement > release cycles.

Recore and Fallout 4 are ones that I like with a short turn around. Anything longer than 18 months in advance I'm not a fan of.

How long it take to reveal price date name and design? Introducing Scorpio, 30 seconds montages, close the show with price and date, boom, 3 minutes top.
Plenty of time left for games.

I can't remember an E3 where all they talked about was stuff that was already known.
You can't remember last year? Their reveals in 2016 were Horizon 3, State of Decay 2, and Dead Rising 4--i.e. the obvious next sequels by known partner studios. People aren't counting those type of things when talking about a paucity this year. No one's saying Forza 7, KI Season 4, and Moon Studios' followup will be absent. (Though the latter will have more impact if it's fresh and not Ori 2.)

I could see Microsoft just kind of riding out this generation with having the best console hardware and a few successful service games while positioning themselves to slay the next generation.
But that's what they tried to do this generation, without success. They starved 360's end so they'd have a heavy-duty One launch lineup...and they absolutely did. They offered a much richer array than Sony. But it wasn't enough by itself.

Minecraft will be there according to Jez Corden
Minecraft will be there according to common sense. You don't skip a billion-dollar franchise at the biggest show of the year.

Citations needed:
-more powerful PS4 that can play games at 4K 'games', 'some games', or 'very few games'
-while being at least 100$ more expansive So have they announced the price, or will it just expand 100$ wider?

Also, you haven't mentioned the difference that aren't performance related (ie. PS4 Pro still doesn't have 4K disc drive, etc)

90 minutes
No full Halo reveal
No full Gears reveal
No Phantom Dust
No Fable more thank likely

That frees up a good amount of time from what we are use to. Crackdown 3, Sea of Theives and Forza 7, State of Decay, Mincraft and Scorpio are the known factors. i kind of expect them just to announce the name of Scorpio, look, price and release date out the gate and then go into games. The specs and rest have been shown before hand and can be shown in clips after.

If the show was a good one at 60 mins no one would care I don't think. Greenberg has clarified anyway so it doesn't matter.

Five minutes of Minecraft, five minutes of MR, five minutes of Mike Ybarra, five minutes of third parties.

That only leaves just over half an hour to showcase first party, ninety minutes overall is a necessity.

Who the hell believes the OG PS4 is 40% more powerfull than the OG Xbox?

WTF does Sony have to do with this thread? Get you shit else where for fuck sake.

Every fucking Xbox threads should be about Sony, even the E3 thread .

There's not much in your prediction list that's very interesting to me. I hope Microsoft can do better.
-Scorpio details
-Sea of Thieves
-something" Halo

Don't forget that at least a 2 mins montage with Xbox One games that will receive a Scorpio patch (Gears 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo 5 etc) is guaranteed

I am sure the majority of games shown will be split Xbox and Scorpio. Maybe even just showing Scorpio footage and how it improves Xbox games

If major work toward improving first party operation has only really begun in the past few months, even 2018 might be too soon. I could see Microsoft just kind of riding out this generation with having the best console hardware and a few successful service games while positioning themselves to slay the next generation.

That's what Sony did in the PS3 era (though, of course, they tried to be successful THAT gen while investing to make sure they were well equipped for the next industry reset). MS seems to be trending the opposite way in terms of investment, but it's hard to tell from the outside. They could be sitting on a bunch of things, I just don't know how (or why) they'd secretly invest in new studios and not announce anything. It's something you announce publicly to staff up. They could be planning to do that, I don't know.

To each their own! I'm pretty happy with that list and anything else would just be a bonus. I generally don't expect unknown quantities for any of the big three.

I don't see them building a bunch of new studios, maybe one. I imagine any hypothetical moves behind the scenes would be beefing up their existing studios and looking for new partners to work with.

I just bought a Switch this year, and I'm going back and forth between wanting to also get Scorpio this year. Buying in right away means less money for Switch games, but it'd give me a second Xbox so I can play on both of our TV's. That means more opportunities to play Xbox games that I'll get for free via Bing rewards...

Come on Phil, sell me on a day one Scorpio purchase!

I just have a bad gut feeling that MS doesn't have much to show and aren't willing to double down on gaming. It's going to get ugly here next week :(

I can't believe they're so willing to drop the ball after spending over a decade fighting for market dominance. Maybe I'm wrong but its not looking good so far.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say they aren't willing to double down on gaming?

Hmm, thinking about how they can space the show, these are my predictions not in order of how they will be presented.

~2 Minutes: Scorpio Trailer, Name, Date, Price | Trailer will show the box and multiple games that will be shown during the conference running on Scorpio. Crackdown, Middle Earth, Sea of Thieves, etc. Name: Xbox One X, November 2017, $399
~2 Minutes: ReCore DE, September 2017
~2 Minutes: Cuphead, June 2017
~2 Minutes: EA Talk | EA Access, support of Scorpio, talk of Frostbite (maybe native 4K?)
~2 Minutes: ID@Xbox
~2 Minutes: Xbox Gamepass
~2 Minutes: End of show Scorpio Games Montage

~4 Minutes: Middle Earth Shadow of War
~4 Minutes: New Xbox Game Preview Game
~4 Minutes: Ori 2, Spring 2018
~4 Minutes: Minecraft
~4 Minutes: Xbox Live Improvements, features, OS, Mixer

~6 Minutes: Mixed Reality, VR support on Xbox One, all Win10 VR Headsets will work on Xbox One, new VR hub with improved Avatar's.
~6 Minutes: Sea of Thieves, Spring 2018
~6 Minutes: NEW AAA IP
~6 Minutes: Assassin's Creed: Origins
~6 Minutes: All things Halo, Halo Wars 2 DLC, Halo 5 "Halo 3" Update, Scorpio support
~6 Minutes: Forza 7, September 2017

~8 Minutes: Crackdown 3, November 2017
~8 Minutes: State of Decay 2, October 2017

Total = ~86 Minutes across 20 different "events" compared to 2016's 24 "events". MS could squeeze in 1 or 2 more small titles or expand the time on 1 or 2 (like Minecraft) of the 20 "events".
