Weeeell, it's a short "a" sound. Not that there wouldn't be any examples of "-er" English words that are transliterated with a short "a" sound ("コンピュータ", for instance), but really, you'd expect a long "a" sound.

You know his dad is Cold and his (noncanon) brother is Cooler, right?

Oh yes, but I just always find it really odd that Funimation would go for "Frieza" and "Cooler". If it were "Freezer" and "Cooler" or "Freeza" and "Coola", it would make more sense.
 
So assuming the tournament does start on the
97th
episode, then there will be
20 episodes of buildup.

So while there's still some shenanigans to unfold, I figured I'd do a list of what I liked about the buildup so far, and what could have been done better.

Good Stuff

-This arc has, so far, been more consistent production wise than the previous arcs. The action has been better, and I think the shift in the color palette suits the more serious tone of this arc. (Episode 86 is easily the best looking episode of Super.) Of course, there are still dips, I don't think anyone is gonna say 89 looks good.
-A focus on the wider cast. As much as people like DBZ, the quality went down when it eventually became the Goku and Vegeta show. One of the best things about Super is the wider cast still have moments to shine. Seeing Gohan finally return as a fighter is fun. Finally seeing where 17 has been this whole time is fun.
-Lots of new fun characters. Not all of them are great, some of them are probably just gonna job. (Sorry Murichim, I don't think your muscle are gonna carry the day.) Also Dragon Ball finally has some female Super Saiyans.

The Questionable Stuff

-Bulla's birth feels a bit too much like a joke. The show already has young Trunks to be a complete joke, Vegeta's daughter being born feels like it should be a bit bigger of an event, instead of just this background event.
-Everything about Frieza. I'm personally okay with Buu being sacked, since he got a big moment. That being said I know some people were looking forward to him fighting more. (Also I guess it is a bit mean, considering his presence in the opening, with his swag walk.) Frieza on the other hand is something that might make or break the arc depending on how they use him.
-Goku's characterization. I feel like this is the first arc that might actually do something with Goku's character.

Bad Stuff

-Arc is dragging a bit. Feels like we should be at the tournament by now. Feels like some good episodes could have been condensed into a really solid single episode.
-I think episode 89 is incredibly weak, not just by Super standards, but by the entire series standards. (Not looking forward to seeing that on Toonami...)
-I feel like we should be getting a better look at some of the other gods. What we've seen has been decent, but none of the gods really stand out to me. I mean, look at Belmod's design, and think of how little actual presence he has.

Haha, the French dub did the opposite! Sort of. Frieza is Freezer, and Cooler is, well, Cooler in the title, but when Goku calls his name in the Metal Cooler OVA, he says "Coola".
 
I don't think any births so far have been a big event?

goku we never saw, gohan neither, nor goten. trunks appears as a newborn but no birth, the only one who got a big deal around her birth was pan and even that was relative, I see no reason bra would be different

Me too, Id even go further and say it was handled great. I went from not giving a shit if Bra existed to really loving that warm family moment. Also some gold B & W stuff on the side.

We were actually spoiled here in Australia. We got a episode a day (excluding weekends) but as a repercussion when they ranout of episodes to air they started from the beginning again.
 
I'm watching and loving the Future Trunks/Goku Black arc but I can't help but think "what the hell is time travel in this series"

Like, Trunks came back to stop the androids that had brought the world to it's knees. And with the androids being stopped and Cell being killed he went back to a supposedly better future right?
The reason the kaoishin and the rest of the gods forbid time travel is due to the possibility of things being changed in the past and the disastrous effects it can have right?
Then why didn't the androids being stopped completely change Future trunks's future? Shouldn't he have disappeared?

If the trunks that had appeared during this arc had been a different one with no memory of the Android saga it would probably make more sense. It's a future that supposedly never came to be and yet it still exists?

At that point isn't it a parallel universe?

Supposedly ending the Android threat and killing Cell had no effect on the future anyway, but Goku sparring with Zamasu and sending him on his dark path apparently did?

I'm over thinking this

You're remembering the Androids arc wrong, Trunks changing the past didn't change his future, it split timelines. Trunks splitting the timelines is also an important plot point.
 
yeah remember there was a version of future trunks that dealt with the androids, but cell killed him and took his time machine, but our future trunks was still alive.

When the androids were killed in the Z timeline, it didn't impact Trunks timeline. Trunks created a new timeline when he went back in time, which is the Z timeline, anything Trunks does in Z timeline has no impact in his. Not sure if filler, but in the anime he goes back to his time, and the androids and Cell are still there. Trunks did originally go back in time to change his future, but after Frieza came back and was killed by Trunks, Trunks learned from Future Bulma that their timeline can't be altered, so his reason for going back in time after that is to either find a way to kill the androids, which is what another Future Trunks did, the one Cell killed and absorbed to get his time machine, or the superior method of getting the strength to defeat the androids/ Cell.


As far as we know, there's only one way to actually change a timeline, which I don't want to spoil because it seems like you haven't finished the Future Trunks arc.

Zamasu always have evil intent, and him affecting the future is more to do with
time rings and being immortal
than anything else. Zamasu needed a push, whether it was Goku,
or Goku Black.

yeah i remember that, loved the french dub, but it was all over the place, changing things constantly

what i loved the most, even if it's considered unprofessional today, is that they kept the japanese screams during battles

that Cell killed a Trunks that had defeated the androids already; that Trunks already had thought the issue was solved in the present and had left for his future to kill the androids but didn't know about Cell

reminder that Super says that after the initial time travel and timelines creation, no more timelines are created (or else like three time rings more would have been created during the Goku Black saga, but we only see one extra, created by Beerus), so a timeline where Trunks was killed and Cell left for DBZ and Bulma was left alone does not exist anymore

It doesn't say this, stop saying it does. There's not extra splits from Trunks' time traveling after the first one back in Z because he's no longer traveling to his past, but alternate timelines. Cell and Trunks created two separate splits. Beerus created an extra timeline because he broke a time loop.
There are enough time rings in place in the Future Trunks arc to cover the timelines we know of.

Cell used the same time machine Trunks used, don't see any reason why he didn't travel to the new timeline FTrunks had created that we know as DBZ

More importantly, in the Goku Black saga FTrunks goes to the past in the original time machine, but goes back to his in the Cell one; according to your theory, the Cell one would be keyed to go to the Lonely Bulma timeline but alas, the heroes arrive to the same and only FTrunks timeline that exists (at that point)

I'd need to see receipts of the Lonely Bulma timeline (like, the associated timering) cause the show doesn't support it. I say show cause if you isolate it to the original manga, then anything goes. the concept of timerings had not been introduced yet

This pleases me. Frieza defecting would've been underwhelming for me. The hype around Frieza teaming up with Goku would've been for nothing. Besides I still want to see Frieza and Frost interact with one another ;)

"Knows" seems like a very strong word. He was aware of most of them in the sense that Goku has allies who fight beside him. He definitely knows Vegeta, though.

Goku's gonna Goku. But how in the hell is he stronger than Vegeta at this point. Vegeta was stronger than him at the end of the Black saga. Then he went into the room of spirit and time again... He should be far ahead of Goku.

Vegeta was never really stronger.

Goku outperformed Vegeta right after against merged Zamasu and he wasn't using the kaioken.

I think they were trying to make it so that goku stops relying on Kaioken after the issues he had. But they completely gave up on that moral and now he uses it whenever.

Zamasu had just lost a beam struggle against Trunks and Vegeta, that definitely weakened him. Plus Goku didn't win his struggle against Zamasu buy pushing his ball back, but by piercing it. Goku also pushed himself to the point of breaking his own arms.

The way that I understood time travel in the Dragonball universe - it's not the correct view, but it works enough for me to use - is that time resists paradoxes. Rather than create paradoxes, it instead splits off into multiple timelines so that a changed outcome does not actually alter the events that lead to it. After the new timeline is created, it's a separate multiverse that you can hope to and from freely, so long as you don't cause another paradox.

When Trunks went back and warned Goku about the Androids, he created a paradox where he should not have existed as he was and should not have had any reason to go back to warn the Androids. So the timeline split and the paradox was resolved.

Why didn't Beerus erasing Zamasu resolve the Goku Black situation? Because if Zamasu was destroyed before he became Goku Black, Goku Black wouldn't have gone into Future Trunks' timeline and Future Trunks wouldn't have gone over to the main timeline to warn Goku, and so Beerus wouldn't have had any reason to destroy Zamasu in the first place. So instead you get another timeline split.

Don't ask me how Cell worked though, that's the most confusing thing for me.
