We sadly still don't know if it was indeed him that came with those 4chan rumors?

I know the ntkrl that posts here posted info of deals that were still in discussion, they were so far out and he nailed it. MC collection, CD3 & its tech, TF White console. GAF ntkrnl is most likely a senior in MS, as the legends say.

You guys are complaining about someone being an insider, when all they did is state their opinion. Good job.

Excited for Crackdown. Never played the first two, but it looks like a great game. I need to commit and get State Of Decay.

And why do you think the prices have went up for consumers....

To me it means it went up for folks like Sony, MS, Nintendo, etc. too.

Browse the web on why prices may have went up.

Nintendo already may have to deal with component shortages, price hikes for the Switch.

I'd be surprised if the prices went up significantly enough for the client that's buying in the millions.

Posted in the Scorpio thread but everyone turned against me. Just wanted to ask if we reckon MS will give us a look at their custom Scorpio cooling solution or will we have to wait for the teardown?

I saw this on another forum, but I sure hope it's not true. It does sound VERY VERY VERY farfetched.

So I am going to say take this with a grain of salt.

I am at work and was talking to a co worker about E3 and Biowares news game that was announced where MS had the marketing rights.

I went to ring a customer up and he said I over heard you talking about the Microsoft and video games and asked if I was talking about the Scorpio.

I said yeah I was and said he works for Microsoft in a different division, but in 2 weeks he is going to Redmond to play it.

The rumors around the office is there will be 3 versions. All based on hard drive space and spec bumps for each version.

$449 $549 $649

He also said they all think the final name will be called Scorpio based on company talk.

Leave Matt alone

I imagine if it ends up being $449 that means it was probably going to be $499 and they fought like hell to get the price down.
I'm leaning towards a half way price too. They have the budget box to sell to entry level consumers - why not tax eager, early adopters for a premium product? Just don't see MS (under Mehdi) wanting to take a major bath on the nextbox.

Studio heads, and Xbox heads? Absolutely, I'm talking about the developers here.

You're not telling your entire company verery detail if you want to make a surprise announcement. That doesn't mean that others don't already know the release date, which games will be shown, and so on. That's not an engineer's business.

If you told everyone in the company everything, then everything would be leaking immediately.

I wonder why they turned on you...

I kinda doubt they'll show much of the cooling solution. Pay some lip service to it being unique and on the to the next bullet point. Sowing down these conferences by getting into the system details instead of games is the worst idea.

Well, he told us what will be presented at E3 now. Based on what he says he knows, there won't be first party surprises. That fits well together with what we know and have seen about the state of the Xbox 1st party strategy.

CD3
Sea of Thieves
Forza
Recore
Halo ("something small")
State of Decay 2
+ Indie exclusives (Cuphead etc)
+ 3rd party games with marketing deals (Anthem, Assassin's Creed,...)

I mean, when he says not to expect big surprises, this would be the obvious list. If they now announced Banjo 3, Conker 2, a Mistwalker RPG, and the like, then you could criticise his behaviour.

With the recent Banjo 'rumors' due to some tweets it was kinda ridiculous to see how many people still don't understand the Xbox first party strategy and limitations.some still expect big investments to see a diverse lineup like Sony or Nintendo have. But that's not a priority for Microsoft, as has become evidently clear under Spencer's leadership.

Shannon Loftis last year at E3 stated they had 14 active games from MS Global Publishing excluding Killer Instinct, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Recore and Scalebound.

So the 9 games they have in active development from Global Publishing - one would be Ori 2 so the other 8 games at least half of those should be ready to show. Even if they showed Ori 2 and two other ones.

Also perception is half the issue with MS and Xbox if they showed off new games whilst showing sequels to their IPs then they would get rid of this feel when anything doesn't sell 4 million units.

Sounds like absolute nonsense.

Nothing we have heard, read, or seen thus far involving any reputable Microsoft source or representatives appears to suggest Project Scorpio isn't a singular SKU.

Microsoft wants Scorpio to sell, and sell well. I'd say there's 0 credibility to this rumour.

The only people that should be banned here are the ones that dog pile on Matt literally every time he makes a post. It is insane the lengths some of you go to attack him for the littlest things.

I'm not really understanding the piling on of Matt, to be honest.

I only wanted to show them that that guy was mostly right. Anyway moving on, yeah you're right. It'll tack time away from showing and talking about more important things. I just want to see it for the sheer wonder haha. It's never been done before so it's probably my favourite and most exciting thing about the console.

The funny thing is, he posts that often on Neogaf I always assumed he maybe is retired as he would not be here so much, if he was an active game maker he would not be so active here lol.

Anyway, I doubt few would know about Microsofts conference unless you were active in it, so its stupidity anyway. Matt can have a stab at price like rest of us.

$ 499

How is it dogpilong. All I call out is the random cryptic 1 sentence post that happens to come up when everybody goes off on silly tangents about stuff

Is it that hard to understand though?

Anytime there's any kind of excitement, he's there rather quickly to pour cold water on it.

Now imagine someone doing that to you in real life and tell me how you'd react. You'd probably punch them in the face after the 83rd time they did it.

"Oh man this burger tastes fucking great"
"Why are you eating that it's bad for you"

"Man this car goes so fast"
"What's the point? You're not allowed to speed anyway"

He's literally Rachel Dratch's Debbie downer character from SNL in forum form. So I can see why he's frustrating so many.

He's just trying to save you guys from disappointment

I'd expect a 1tb SSD at that price.

you do?
have a look what a 500GB to 1TB SSD upgrade costs for a Surface or Macbook :D

The cooling isn't really custom is it? It's just a vapor chamber.

nothing fancy at all
https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/vapor-chamber-heatsink-manufacturer.html

the reason why they use a vapor chamber design over traditional heatpipes is simple
performance per surface are. the console has to fit a certain size. you can't go big like GPUs with 3 slot designs
the small blower 2 slot designs also use vapor chamber technology

They'll match whatever price the PS4 Pro is at. So $399 or even lower if they know Sony is going to counter.

You don't want your baby brother console (XB1 S) or PlayStation/Nintendo competition to be so far apart in price that the sales suffer at launch.

They may have to take a hit on the hardware but they can make it up on subs(Live, game pass) & game attach rates. We'll see what type of strategy they go with this time around. Hopefully it's a balance and gamers and MS will both come out ahead.

What a guy

I remember when he valiantly opposed people calling Scorpio a 'monster' and 'beast' because it was playing into the hands of marketers

Thank FUCK he was there, phew, god knows what such rampant positivity would have done

A frankly, if they are so confident Matt is wrong, then they can just wait until tomorrow's conference. Getting on Matt's case now will have no bearing on what's going to happen at Microsoft's conference, so why even bother?

I know Richard from DF said it felt like $499. I get it's a nice console, but I won't be buying at that price.

Looking forward to seeing the design either way.

Yep that seems to be very true. I usually have an OK grasp on what going to be announced, and I feel pretty good about my beliefs for cost, launch date, and what games MS will show (and I could be wrong about any of those things), but for the name? Everyone still calls it Scorpio.

It's exciting, I'm looking forward to the show. Surprise me MS.

What?? But Matt, you only shit on this thread, what's this positivity about? :p (totally kidding btw, lol)

lol, honestly I don't think any of your examples apply. I don't think I've ever criticized someone for a subjective opinion, or called out anyone for playing games instead of doing other more important things with their lives, for example. I literally offer my informed thoughts on things, that's it. I try to bring in facts when I can. Facts aren't subjective.

I'm sorry if you think I'm a downer, but I'm not out to get anyone or destroy happiness. I talk about this industry because I care about it and am passionate for it. If we express that differently, neither of us are doing anything wrong.

The cooling isn't really custom is it? It's just a vapor chamber.

I believe it is using a vapor chamber, but I think the Digital Foundry guys said its custom-made to fit the profile, so it may be something they are manufacturing themselves. Either way, the tech costs are still going to be higher than PS4P

so in the age of external hds - why would anyone buy a larger size hd version of any console? I imagine most people have at least one usb3 external hd laying around that they could attach. Maybe this only applies to neogaf goers and other folks that are into games. I guess it's only normal consumer that would splurge for the higher internal hd at retail.
