Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

You're definitely allowed to feel this way but I think a lot of that was because this EA event was pretty bone dry. Few games and not really any surprise outside of A Way Out. There's only so much to say about the sport titles they don't care about and Battlefront which is a pretty known quantity.

Yeah, I watched it raw as I always do with conferences at first and man was it a fucking bore apart from NFS & A Way Out.

e: At the very least last year was horrible in the best way possible. This year is just horrible.

On the real, I don't even get why people comment on these people as if they're there to be judged. They're all people with different personalities who all contribute in their own ways, this ain't a tv show. I don't even know about you but I can't even compare them nor do I try to. Whenever I see people do that it's like "come on now dawg, these are legit people."

Shit's weird.

It really bothers me, and it ramps up from annoying to outright gross pretty quickly. I can sorta get why people see things this way - in the sense that, particularly if you pay premium, they're putting out a media product you consume (and that sure felt slimy to type) - but... even then, I don't even feel as strongly about TV show characters I dislike as some people seem to feel about staff members sometimes.

Only one day in!

And before a nightly live show, even.

i don't really like their "talk over press conference" stuff anymore.
feels like everybody is trying to hard to come up with the next joke and they barely listen to the stuff being said. yeah sure it's a silly event but then they have an uninformed discussion later about things they actually talked about during the presentation which annoyed me.
They gotta do something during an EA conference, yo. They were more upbeat about the conference than I thought they'd be or than I would be.

Then you must hate that half the threads created on this forum are people shitting on developers' work.

Half the threads on this forum shitting on developers' work are commenting on the work and they never mention said individual developers. It's a completely different thing than shitting on something like "Beast In The East" as a series.
Do you not see the difference in criticizing the creation and not the creator? If you were posting about what someone said and not how they said it I would never comment on it unless it was factually untrue.

Giant Bomb threads always get waaaay more personal than other threads and seem to attract a lot of shitty drive-by posts. Especially in the E3 threads.

Yeah that's it. It's crazy.
Yeah, it's a group effort. I've always been of the opinion even before GB was a thing that the guys always build on each other and that's what makes it all work but some people like to be like some people.

I could get behind this but Vanquish is actually top tier as well.

That's what it is or at least what I thought it was. Then you go online and read somebody saying how they don't like (insert GB member 1) and wishing they were replaced by (insert GB member 2).
It's just comes with the internet being so anti-personal and anonymous

You think anyone here criticising Brad would say it to his face? They wouldn't say shit.

Can guarantee you instead it'd be "Oh my God Brad! Huge fan!"
It would be someone asking if he's gone back to BOTW or something. Guarantee they wouldn't say "I wish you were replaced by (insert GB member 3)."

I'm not going to lie, when I see people commenting negatively on the personalities in these threads it just makes me not want to post in the threads much. I mean GAF is great and all but when it comes to stuff like that? I'm just personally not a fan of that sort of thing. It's just weird to me.

I forgot Dan's wedding. Is it next week? or the week after?

Somewhere around end of June if I'm not mistaken.

Agreed but sometimes people are people(aka shitty) and we should combat such assholishness with something meaningful that helps everyone. In other words, we should be the change we want instead of just being quiet. Maybe that's why sometimes you only see those kinds of people posting because most are quiet.

Surprised at the positive NFS reactions. That looks like a one trick pony that will become repetitive real quick.
For me it's a game I hope will be good just because we haven't really had one in that style for a bit. It's real pretty and the off-brand Fast and Furious concept is appealing. We definitely don't know how much meat/variety it will have but as a vertical slice it was intriguing.

Yeah you're right about that.

I'm glad my early-morning alarm clock didn't wake me for this. A Way Out was the highlight but as a co-op-only game I don't expect to play it.

Did John Vignocchi get a job at another game developer? I only ever really hear from him at these E3 shows.

We don't know. It seems to me that he's currently just enjoying life which is great.

Agreed, I definitely prefer the GB streams for every conference except maybe Sony. The 3rd party pressers can be mind-numbingly boring.

Even with the commentary, I generally don't end up watching everything (despite meaning to) but it's pretty necessary for some of them, yeah. The only one I'd really consider not watching with commentary the first time through is Nintendo, and that burnt me a year or two back when it would have been more entertaining with it. Though, actually, with it being shorter this year and basically a normal Direct, I'll probably go back to watching that uncommented first.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Did people always ask why Drew was not on screen during these livestreams back in the day? Or do they not understand that Abby is a production person ala Drew and Jason? While Ben is a junior editor?

I always do Nintendo without commentary first, but that's also because I like to have the US and JP directs up at the same time and switch the audio back and forth as need be. However, I would never dream of watching Ubi or EA without the GB Crew to keep me sane. Sony and Microsoft, I can go either way, but usually choose to go with GB just to have that "communal" viewing experience.

They seem far more upbeat on this one than in past years, though that might be because they know the stuff being shown is actually out this year

I remember Drew being kinda dark-horse popular

MS conference should be great. It's hugely important to that company and there will be a lot of stuff for the guys to be opinionated about.

I'm gonna be honest and say I don't know what Crackdown is. In my mind I associate it with Prototype and Infamous but I don't know if that's accurate in the least.

What is a Crackdown?

It was kinda like you're a super agent and you had to stop rival factions and stop crime in this large metropolis. The ending of the first game left me gobsmacked.

Crackdown 2 was fucking lit guys. The main campaign might have been shit but things like the wingsuits and mag grenades were fun as fuck to play around with in 4 player co-op.

The only part that I got that was when the Anthem trailer started. Dan randomly asked who made Blood in the Sand and led to a Lloyd Banks joke. I don't even know why Dan asked about Blood in the Sand in the first place.

It entirely depends on what they do with it. The basic gameplay looks pretty standard, but if they use that format for over-the-top, Fast and Furious-style stunts - it could be a pretty fun time.

I like the concept of an 'action racing' game, and this could fill my desires.
