Assassins Creed: Origins Cinematic Trailer

God this shits me. This game is not gonna do what Ubi will expect and nobody will ever touch Egypt again as a result

Pretty underwhelming for me. It looked pretty choppy and some of the animation seemed unpolished (something Ubisoft usually is good at). I also don't see many new features that would warrant a brief hiatus of the series. Or maybe it's just my stream.

UAVeagle seems to be the biggest new thing, I guess.

Didn't care for it, looked just as boring as every other AC to me, just with useless RPG numbers, and really janky looking Dark Souls lite combat.

People who still like AC will probably love this though.

Other than the RPG mechanics, this is the only new thing I notice from this game.

I haven't touched an AC since 3, but that trailer looked interesting. A nice twist on the series, although the idea of arena stuff isn't that appealing. I want stealth, not combat.

Gameplay section shown at the Microsoft conference was very disappointing...
Oh. So much for that, then! AC stays declining.

I've never played an AC before, but this one looks awesome.

Great setting, bird companion, rpg stuff.
I'm in.

I'm a bit disappointed by their rendition of Alexandria TBH.

I mean, unless it's some sort of optical illusion caused by a super wide FOV or sth, it looks like they've considerably shrunk the city down compared to how big it would've actually been back then.

This is an (as far as I'm aware) accurate "map" of the ancient city. Looks quite a bit bigger.

Easily disabled, I'm sure. AC 1-3 were always good about letting you turn off individual UI elements - I always appreciated that. One of the first games I did that in, 1 was.

Actually not that bad. UAVeagle is... Different. But perhaps not essential, which could make the game more immersive/challenging. Still not sold on the self-commentating character though. Also not convinced by RPG elements, I don't think it has a place in AC.

Disappointed to be honest. Setting and everything looks great but it looks like it plays just like any other AC game other than the combat system, which was headed this way with Syndicate anyway. I expected more to be changed after the hiatus.

They weren't lying when they said The Witcher 3 served as an inspiration.

And that giant snake at the end. I know this is a series with magic aliens and shit, but to so openly throw in fantastic beasts. Hmm... well, wouldn't be surprised if it was some kind of hallucination.

Its a game, they often compress things to make it more fun/gamey. Everything looks pretty good.

Still not sold on the name though. Assasins Creed 5: Initiation or The Assassin's Creed would have been much better names that hinted at starting over while not being so generic.

Edit: ok those names are still pretty generic, but they dont have the word Origins.

That's weird, it looks like a very small district and they're used to big cities (Paris, London). I can't find a good explanation : even if the focus is on the countryside/small villages, they can do better than this for one of the two-three big cities of the game ? Even the old AC1 cities weren't that big but certainly looked better than that

Oh how do I love GAF's hot takes during e3

Mine was sarcastic though haha

Well you got it

I'm pretty sure that they were way more accurate with the depictions of historical cities in the last few games (London, Paris, the towns in AC3), though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. And historical tourism and sightseeing is part of Assassin's Creed's appeal. Seeing a fully realised virtual Alexandria was one of the things I was really excited about regarding Origins and what they've shown in the trailer looks far less majestic and impressive than the real deal would've been.

lol I know but some people in the official thread genuinely said it looked next gen. Dipped right after because no one has time for those kinda hot takes. Also love that he's black. 4chanamcry

I didn't know you saw what Alexandria looked like 2000 years ago, anyways the world is bigger, so they had to downsize some of the bigger cities. Seems more open world.

I also mainly play for the historical tourism (and the campy stories featuring well known historical figures.) I can't comment on how it looks vs what the real deal would have been, because i dont know. However with the scope of this game, its pretty clear that it wouldn't be fun if they made multiple large cities. Because keep in mind that

This is a game where you have to walk/ride horses everywhere. At some point you have to make it fun and not ask the players who just want a stealth/action game to meander for hours through an endless ancient city just to get to the next objective marker.
