Dragon Ball FighterZ - Gameplay Footage - 60 FPS Direct Feed

just like how Guilty Gear translated from sprites to models, ASW has done it with DBZ, the system looks good and a good translation from DBZ Extreme Butoden, it kinda looks faster but I am seeing the same homing dash system and some of Goku normals are the same, good shit for them

I guess maybe Golden Frieza isn't quite as good but whatever.
 
Jesus, you fucking guys give splitting hairs it's actual meaning. Animation is top notch and gameplay looks on par. That's all I'm really worried about. You need to remember these are 3D models I don't think they will ever get it to look "right" unless they pull some M.C. Escher levels of bending on the models depending on the angle the avatar is facing. Also feel bad for Hyper Dragon Ball Z, looking forward to that now pales in comparison.
 
After marvel, tekken and whatever other fighting games have come out, this is first fighting game I'm super pumped for. Looks so arcady and fun.
 
the game looks as beautiful as unbalanced, hope I can get in the beta to see much of it, it's probably the first DBZ game i'll get since Budokai 3.
 
This is my dream Dragon Ball Z game. I was just thinking about how I would love a game like that a couple of weeks ago. So happy.

Yeah that's a good point, but aren't most these animations all brand new for returning characters? Plus you know lots of new characters will be in this, so if they're doing that, I can easily see them adding in our boy.

BTW I dont expect to see a full Cel movelist shown off in this vids. I am full on betting that this dude is not complete yet is why we only see him pop up to do one or two things here and there. The amount of hell you'd have to go through to get all those damned patterns on his skin with a UV map that distorted... Them shapes would be stretched to fuuuuuuuuck. Betting they are frame by frame placing some of them and just putting ones that manage to look good on single polies within the UV map where ever possible to save time. No getting around it though. Some would need hand done per frame given the way they setup their UV's and animate. Thank God he's the only dude in the DBZ universe that detailed. Piccolo' may be easier thanks to uv splitting on his map so at least he has that goin for them.

Seriously ASW. Thank you for your work. You guys are insane for all you do. Can't wait to see Cel go all in sometime.

I don't see how it could possibly be any better than this unless they just make it render as a solid black, which is what the anime does most of the time anyway.

But when it doesn't, it looks the way it looks in the game right now

Regardless of how it looks in 3D, it IS in 3D. Which means it's subject to lighting during attacks and whatnot. So the solid-black rendering method won't really work here.

I guess i can say you've educated me :p. I'm still not fully convinced they couldn't add more costumes without a significant ramp up, but I say let agree to disagree on that one.

On a side note, more and more animation software, esp internally are making it easier to "smear" 3d models. Hopefully this kind of workflow makes it easier to replicate 2d in 3D.

BTW That goku model looks badass!

Cell's spots are actually texture based.

They couldn't use their regular technique for those.

At this point, yeah, Tien got one-shotted by Base Gohan, lol. Krillin better be designed as a series fighter and not a joke character...

Question: Do ASW actually make joke fighters at all?

Yes Gohan and Frieza look incredible. Buu looks pretty damn good too but his design is very plain.

Cell is a bit too bulky and his face colors are messy up close, as well as his texture spot that gets pixelated on close ups.

Vegeta is a bit underwhelming, has a lot of bad anatomy pose (look at his legs) and suffers from the same issue Goku has , the 3/4 angle that makes his face looks a bit flat. But he looks great overall, this is nitpicking.

Goku is the worst outside of his kicks and his ultra that is phenomenal.

Keep in mind that "the worst" in a game that looks incredible doesn't mean it looks bad.

looks like this game has level 3's. wish they also had incoming character mixups but i guess you can't have it all. :P

So it looks like Assists have a 5 second cool down. Each character has one assist. The assist are,

Gohan: Uppercut
Goku: Horizontal Kamehameha
Vegeta: Diagonal downward rapid fire
Cell: Diagonal downward Kamehameha
Freeza: Quick horizontal explosion explosion
Buu: Blows pink smoke in a horizontal direction

Assists can take damage but it recovers very very fast.

Characters have blue life which can be recovered while tagged out.

Raw tags are an attack like Marvel

DHCs are in

Looks like there is a homing dash ala Arcana Heart

You can spend a meter to do a teleport cancel which will put you right behind your opponent. This can be used to extend combos or used with assists for mix ups and punishes.

7 is the max amount of meter you can have.

Instead of X-factor it seems your characters just gain more meter when the others are gone.

This makes someone like Freeza with an install super very good in anchor position

You know what the problem with Tao Pai Pai is? For the sake of variety, they would make him that much lamer robot version.
 
Has there ever been a game that lets you go SS during the fight? I always wondered why they never incorporated that in the games I played.
 
Dream DBZ game made by the best in the industry gets announced and some people find issues with it. I'm surprised people even noticed that Goku's base hair doesn't have enough spikes.

Dragon Ball gaf don't play. I think it's all coming from a good place, just shows how passionate DB fans are and how much potential this game has to be big.
