Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

Was cleaning my house while listening to the Yakuza 0 soundtrack, still amazed by how incredible and varied it is.

My man.

At the people who thought this was going to be 399$ maybe if MS was that insane it would've been. Turns out they're not.

I can't figure out how I feel about this years E3. The stuff that looked good, looked really good. Mario/Rabbids and God of War being my personal highlights. Plus more X-COM 2. And I appreciated not having half of Sony's press conference be for games that are 3-4 years out. But it just feels like there weren't a lot of big AAA titles at this year's show. I'm not sure if that is reality or just because of how incredible the last 12 months of AAA titles have been skewing things.

Less blow away announcements but the conference quality across the board has levelled out so there hasn't really been anything awful presentation wise to sit through.

Huh, I don't think the conferences are a disappointment really, but I can't think of that many games that are a slam dunk gonna need to buy it type. Can you list some examples? I have pretty specific tastes though.

To break them down by conference(* indicates personal highlights):

Need for Speed
A Way Out *
Battlefront 2

Evil Within 2
Wolfenstein 2 *
Dishonored DLC

Rabbids/Mario *
Beyond Good and Evil
South Park

Cuphead *
That blade runner game
Ori

Undertale
Everybody's Golf
Hidden Agenda
Ni No Kuni II
Crash Bandicoot
GT Sport
Uncharted
Days Gone *
God of War *
SotC *
Detroit
Spiderman *

Again, could have been more announcements sure, but for this year I was pretty satisfied. I do wonder if PSX is hurting their E3 showing when comparing it to the other press conferences. A lot of indies and even a couple of huge titles get saved for that nowadays.

Also without the hassle of your choice of marketplace, backwards compatibility with PC games more or less dating back to the beginning of time, free online multiplayer, etc. Even comparing it to a PC to me takes A LOT of really hard squinting..

That's why stuff like backwards compabilty and better marketplace seem like steps in the right direction.

You can also play pre Xbox games on pretty much any computer. And alternative indie games too so if you have a laptop half decent you can enjoy both things.

They mentioned they were having network issues; was that maybe one of the points where the stream dropped?

Besides the buffering the big network issue was in the middle of the actual conference around the CoD trailer. They went black for that. Brad was trying to give people a heads up about the game, before Vinny said something as well. They just dropped the stream feed for the chalkboard jokes.

Cool. Thanks for listing it out.

I'd say out of those only rabbids, undertale and sotc are a sure thing for me, and I'm only really in it for the collector's edition for undertale. As said though, my tastes have gone super narrow.

Well at least your avatar indicates however narrow it is you're getting some of the best :p

Hopefully Nintendo has something for all of us.

Waiting for Nintendo today before giving out them final rankings. All I want out of Nintendo is Super Mario Odyssey releasing this year.

I think at the switch presentation in January someone at nintendo said the game was pretty much done and was doing some small fine tuning on the game. It is safe to say it is coming out this year. I just want fire emblem warriors to have a great character roster.

Yeah definitely.

Also another part of it is damn, i wouldn't be able to find the time to play all those games.

Oh yeah, I'm totally fucked on that regard. Some of those games will definitely have to slip. Evil Within and Beyond Good and Evil would probably be the first to go considering I haven't even played the first entries.

Also overall I like Ben for the record. At the very least he improves the bombcast a lot imo.

Dude, unless they're selling HTC vives and the accompanying car seat thingy it's not going to be a part of it. :P

Can you imagine trying to hook all the vive shit up to a switch? Also you need to put like 4 screen doors in front of that picture for it to be accurate.

Speaking of that I need to box up and sell my vive.

Oh, I just meant I could see them doing a short video of "hey, look at this cool thing we're doing!" I didn't watch the video but I saw the Tokyo mention in the description so I assumed it was an official arcade thing?

Yeah, it's an arcade thing in shinjuku which probably won't play well with a western audience. :P

Went back to watch the Sony E3 preshow on GB stream and Dan didn't know Knack 2 was coming? Where was he when it was announced?

My man.

Listening to Jeff speculate that they might launch it at $349 on the previous bombcast led me to some serious laughing-out-loud. It's kind of astounding that people who spend that much time around software/hardware can be so out of touch with hardware costs (especially when you're manufacturing them to a customized, smaller form factor).

I mean, he DID say he knew it would be selling at a loss.

There's a reason why he also said it would basically be their hail mary.

I think the bigger issue is a lot of the gaming enthusiast press don't pay much attention to the larger tech landscape. At $349 he expected MS to subsidise the hardware, but if you look at the writing on the wall, MS have had enough of the Xbox division bleeding money - hence the lack of new studios and first party exclusives.

Are we getting a UPF this week or will everybody be winding down from E3? I miss my UPFs. :(
No UPF, they'll be travelling back home. We might get a Jeff/Alex Mixlr though

Him (or any of their fans) thinking it was even attempting to be a hail mary were deluded from the start.

I thought Miyamoto hated VR?

I need to go to Japan.

We thought Miyamoto hated Ubisoft as well until..

I mean they could have gone all the way. Selling it at a loss would've been a very favorable but real bold move that I don't think they could afford to do so right now. But, it was a strategy that they could've gone with.
