Dragon Ball VR is one of the games you can play at the Bandai VR exhibit thing. You know what that means?

THE RETURN OF YA BOI OZOTTO. (DB VRVS Original final boss)

latest

Looks like a failed Dr. Gero experiment.

So I need to distract myself from the long wait for Mario Oddesy, so how about the second episode of GT?

Pan Blasts Off (主役は私!パン宇宙に飛び立つ!!, I’m the Star! Pan Blasts Off into Space!!)

Business Trunks is secret best Trunks.

So is anyone else following Happy Dog Super? I know early impressions were bad with the Battle of Breeds arc and only got worse with Resurrection CAT arcs, but it's honestly gotten better. Happy Dog Black was a unique villain and the upcoming Tournament of Kibbles seems to be finally giving Happy Dog some character development.

The thing I find I come back to the most in these episodes are the character building bits where you see everyone a few years later. Goten has a personality, ChiChi's not a hard-ass. Videl's softened up a bit after her trauma with Stoppovich. It feels refreshing to see the cast like this, and even more so in a post-super world where the series feels designed to last in perpetuity.

[Remember to come up with hilarious zinger about Geet's stache. It's a requirement to talk about if if you do GT, so really think about it.]

"I'll just be walking this way now."

I don't know why I find this funny. Perhaps it's the delivery?

FIRST HALF: 7/10

This robber plot isn't doing anything for me. Even by DragonBall standards, it seems well trodden and mundane. Or maybe I'm just reminded of similar Slump stories with this scheme.

Kale's "Absolutely Disgusting" meme face VS Pan's. Who wins?

mZsBPuh.png

It's so bad that we spend so little time with this Goten. He actually has a unique personality apart from all the others: A romantic, girl-obsessed guy who isn't a total perv. Too bad GT itself seems up in the air if it happened at this point.

mfw I realize I have 62 more episodes to go.

2ND HALF: 5/10
TOTAL: 6.5/10
It's amazing how awful every single one of those looks >.>

Possible team ups:

Goku + Gohan
Goku + Roshi + Krillin + Tenshinhan
Goku + Freeza
Gohan + Piccolo
Piccolo + 17
Krillin + 18
Vegeta + Freeza
Vegeta + 18

If U6 teams up:

Goku + Hit
Freeza + Frost
Hit + Frost
Vegeta + Cabba + Cauli + Kale
Roshi + Cauli + Kale

Unlikely but possible team ups:
Vegeta + Magetta
17 + 18 + Magetta
Gohan + Cabba

What other team ups are possible you think?

17 + 18
17 + 18 + Krillin

Oh the possibilities :D

Was he/she known for this sort of "style"?

Yes, Uchiyama's art wasn't very good and he supervised a massive chunk of the original 3 anime.
At least he was better than Ebisawa, though some of Ebisawa's episodes had great art because he wasn't a heavy handed supervisor, while Uchiyama redrew the art of everyone below him.

Damn. Talk about fixing what's not broken!

Such a shame though, I can't imagine how many nice/cool scenes got ruined by his style :S

Does Toriyama still remember Cell? Seems like all the callbacks in DBS, there had been no mention of Cell.

Btw does the last episode signalled the end of Vegeta getting it on with Goku? I guess DBS is good with foreboding, Vegeta had whined about Hit tickling Goku's fancy, now it is clear Freeza and Goku will spend more time slipping together.

Tbh, Freeza is looking like the anti-protagonist that Vegeta can only dream to be. Whiny Saiyan Prince go home and be a family man.

I guess I'm the only Dragon Ball fan who hates the video games?

don't make sense to me

krillin vs ssj3 goku
equally matched

????????????????

You make no sense.

Get good : beat opponents that play krilin. Let yourself lose if you play krilin. Or ring your opponent out. Problem solved.

Cell has been shown and mentioned multiple times. He's been in that episode when Goku and Krillin go to that forrest. There is just ZERO reason to ever bring him back since he's not known by anyone outside of Earth, let alone U7. Kaioshin probably doesn't even know who he is. Cell never left a mark on the scale of Frieza, Buu or even Dabra.

I don't think it's that, but the problem is that he has nowhere to go with Buu

the Buu/Satan arc in the Buu saga is some of the best stuff Toriyama has done, but now he has painted himself into a corner. At most he can put Satan in danger, and Buu will go furious and save Satan, or the other way around. but he did both in the Buu saga itself so it is nothing interesting

and it will be hard to marry Buu, and Buu doesn't seem interested in Pan as a cool uncle, Piccolo style

so Buu is mostly just there. maybe they will reuse the GT idea of Uub fusing with Buu or something along that line, but right now there's not a lot Toriyama can do with Buu

Tenshinhan...dunno, they just gave him a girl to be around with after the tournament, a dojo, etc, so Tenshinhan can go new places. Tenshinhan is clearly past his peak but he is still a character that Toriyama can get some mileage from. he is severely outclassed, but like Gohan before, this may be a driver for more progress

He seems to run into this problem quite a bit, which could explain a lot of repeated ideas for characters who already came full circle on something.

Nah. There's one of you in every Dragonball thread. I think you're all completely insane, but maybe someday they'll make a game where you literally can't win if you select Yamcha, just for you.

I hope that Buu and Uub don't fuse. The english dub of that scene was absolutely hilarious. Still don't know what they hell they were thinking with his dub voice. I wish they changed it to sound more like the Japanese version. What's weird is that Babidi in the Japanese version of Kai sounds more like the English dub Babidi, not an old decrepit ball sack.

Uub isn't a part of Majin Buu anyway, he's a reincarnation of his other half. He isn't even the same species. They aren't really refusing if they fuse.

Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure what they can do with Buu either. I guess they can do something where they explain more about its new origin - Buu was reconned to have always existed - or where he awakens somewhat to his identity as the Grand Supreme Kai and goes to work with Shin.

He's also a magical being. Maybe while Uub is training under Goku he can also learn magic from Buu? I dunno, just spitballing.

I have no hype for Cells hypothetical return. Because the only cool thing that could happen, we know won't. Vegeta didn't get to do shit to Frieza after all.

which also explains why vegeta gets so much screen time; he is not only a fan favorite, but also someone who is really easy to write into funny situations, even if he possibly is dead ended development-wise

he has a fucking kaiohshin inside (or...several?)

just kill shin, or move him to another appointment, and have Buu take over

Huh... Vegeta if anything has too much character developement. He's almost unrecognizable from his Z self.
Edit: But I concede he's kinda hit a dead end now. Theres one obvious place to take him from here in line with his developement, and thats full on hero mode... Which will never happen cause goku.

His story came full circle in the Buu arc.

yeah he is basically where he was in the Buu saga. I meant that he is dead ended cause it's hard to see where he could go beyond where he was in the Buu saga

I feel the next step would be taking over planet Salad :D at least his relationship with Cabbe hinted of taking a mentor position which could be something new

Buu is actually just a small piece that split off from a YUGE pink eldritch horror that eats universes, Zeno and Grand Priest locked him up ages ago.

He is waaay different than Buu saga. That was still a guy who would die for his pride, valued strength over his family, ect ect. Current Vegeta actually took a master, trained with Goku, and learned to take a joke. He's about as different as he could possibly be.
Anyways, I feel he has never been set up better to be the hero. It feels like the perfect moment. He's becoming the voice of reason while Goku is edging on heel turn with his bullshit.

at the end of the Buu saga Vegeta has a huge introspection moment where he realizes Goku is the best and that it makes no sense to keep chasing after him

immediately followed by Goku going "yo, vegeta, I cannot actually kill Buu...a little help here?" which sets Vegeta back into collaborative rival mode, but already as a family man

the series left him learning how to work with Goku but Vegeta will never be entirely comfortable with him

I don't ever see Vegeta being a hero. At least not in the traditional sense.

Me either. Toriyama loves the trope of righteous hero dude utterly jobbing and getting bailed out by fight crazy goofball too much. I'm just saying he's never been set up for it better. Even RoF he wasnt set up better to take Goku's thunder.

I'm struggling to see how he's been set up to be a hero though?

This describes Gohan vs Buu to a T. :(

His set up is goku, in any other thing, is being fully set up to fail. He's endangering people for his enjoyment, making tons of reckless decisions, partnering up with evil now, all too satiate his power lust. The only character who has opposed all this bullshit is Vegeta. No one would be more vindicated to bail Goku out.

Buu saga was a trolling tour de force

Vegeta does a heartfelt final sacrifice knowing he'll end up in hell........accomplishes absolutely nothing, Buu regenerates and goes about his day.........

Gotenks! Fusion! New generation stepping up like Gohan when he beat Cell.........Buu escapes the time chamber, kills his entire family, fusions wears off...........

Wait, Gohan has been training this entire time! He has a new ultimate power, he's back.........Buu plays him like a fiddle, absorbs Gotenks, kicks his ass......forgottten for the rest of the arc......

Wait Vegeta is back! Vegito the ultimate fusion! Buu is done.......Vegito lets himself get absorbed, fusion said to last forever wears off inside Buu......

.

whenever GT screenshots are posted I wonder why the color palette in it is so fucking weird

Huh, IMO the color palette is actually one of the (few) things that were great in GT. It had such a distinctive, unique look. Even space was fucking ocean blue! The whole series had such a nostalgic, almost dream-like atmosphere.

they should come out and confirm that it WAS all a dream already

In my opinion, this arc is a direct answer to all of the criticisms of Super. I feel like the growth of Goku as a character will be a big thing.

It definitely feels that way. Both visually (storyboarding/art direction/etc) and the story/characters.

So with the announcement of Dragon Ball Fighters I've gotten curious, and so if I've never seen Dragon Ball where do I start (I don't wanna read mangas) and where do I go to watch?

[edit] Is this thread only for the mangas? Or do we have an OT for the anime?

Oh, yeah, distinctive it is. but mostly weird

I think that a lot of it is the character design which changed the basic color schemes for many of the characters clothing. This is noticeable for Goku, Trunks, Gohan and Vegeta. Goku SSJ4 particularly is just nauseous to look at with its color combination.

But also the skies are of weird colors that DB normally didn't have, and also the cities, etc etc

this is for the anime that's currently airing, Dragon Ball Super. sequel to Dragon Ball Z which is a sequel to Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball's fun, but start with Z. practically everyone in America got into the series with Z, and Fighters looks like it's gonna be 100% Z
you can stream it on funimation's site

Owz, Funimation isn't available here in Scandinavia. :(

Watch in Japanese, start with the Dragon Ball anime then go to the Dragon Ball Kai anime (a "remaster" of Z). The first part of Kai cuts out most of the filler, but sadly Kai The Final Chapters leaves most of the filler in for the final arc.
